the song is about a small Belgian Border troop called Chasseurs Ardennais that pretty much ground the Blitzkrieg to a halt on their own. They where ordered to retreat, but due to comms failure they honored their original orders to Hold the Border. The Axis forces, due to the fierce fighting thought they faced an enemy much larger then 40 rifles strong, when they asked "Where are the others?" it lead to the quote used in the song "We are all." the song is the English translation of the Chasseurs Ardennais motto "Resiste Et Mords:" the lyric video actually has clips of the actual Troop as well as there insignia, a Boar.
Thanks, was about to write the same. The video here suggests a reference to the eastern front when the song's actually about the ardennes offensive. Regarding the Latin part: "Gloria fortis miles" translates like "Honor the brave soldier" while "Adversor et admorsus" - according to the song's title - simply means "Resist and bite".
Fun fact: the luftwaffe parachuted commandos behind Belgian lines in order to cut communication wires and cause confusion amongst their enemies. Turns out, if they hadn’t, the chasseurs ardennais would’ve received the order to retreat and the Germans would’ve had a much easier time invading Belgium.
Ty for sharing the history of this song. I’ve know of it but never on this detail. Makes this song even more stronger in my opinion. Once we forget our past we will doomed to repeat. Never served! But damn man like my uncle once said. Semper Fidelis! Ty to family of these great men! Ty can’t bring to words what I wana say here. But this will do
"Gloria Fortes Miles" roughly means "Glory to the Mighty Warriors" and "Adversor et Admorsus" is the Latin version of the tile of the song, "Resist and Bite." That was the motto of those 40 badasses, les Chassuers Ardennias.

40 Belgian troops held off Rommel for 18 days When the remaining survivors were finally captured, the Germans asked them in disbelief where the rest were at... My favorite Sabaton song by far, those men were fucking legends My second favorite song by them is "winged hussars," when the largest calvary charge in history broke the Turkish siege of Vienna. They didn't hold off rommel. He was held up elsewhere by a larger force for 16 days until they ran out of ammunition but it was not the chasseurs de Ardennes.
The video is from the movie Fortress Brest , that hold out surrounded for a month behind the German lines and 99% of defenders died , but the song is about company of Belgium soldiers that held the whole German army in the Ardens forest for 18 days . And Wicster is right war is war I went trough the war as teenager in my country and my town was shelled regularly , all I'm gonna say war was in former Yugoslavia .

In the Second World War, the Chasseurs Ardennais took part in heavy fighting after Belgium was invaded on 10 May 1940; the Germans noted the fierce resistance of the Belgians and the Chasseurs Ardennais were no exception. In one engagement a 47mm anti-tank gun destroyed or disabled five German tanks. A unit of only 40 men held off the combined arms of the German forces, including General Rommel's "Ghost Division" for 18 days and only surrendered after running out of ammunition, when asked where the others were, they simply replied 'We are all'. The song has nothing to do with the video that shows clips from the movie Fortress of War (2010) about the defense of Brest Fortress.
"but when captured by the axis and forced to tell the truth, we tell it with a smile, we will surprise them with a laugh. We are all" they fought like the boar on their badge and the germans thought they were fighting an army, not 40 riflemen so when they asked where are the rest of your men, they told the truth.
The battle shown is the Siege of the Brest Fortress, where a small Russian Garrison held out for two weeks against the full might of the Werhmarcht, slowing the Germans down
From Sabatons homepage: "The story of the Chasseurs Ardennais, whose emblem is the wild boar. A small Belgian unit of soldiers who were supposed to defend the borders and hold their ground along the K-W Line in May 1940. When the German armies, which included Rommel’s Ghost Division, approached the unit, they were supposed to retreat but due to communication failure the order never reached them. Instead they honoured their original orders, which were to defend the border at all cost. They fought so bravely and on such a large front, that they tricked the axis into believing that they were facing a force much larger than 40 rifles strong. When finally they were captured and their captors asked them -”where are the others?” they simply laughed and answered. -”There are no others, we are all!”. The song gets its title from their motto Resiste Et Mords, in English, Resist and Bite."
Saw a WWII vet talking with a Iraq vet. The old vet said he couldn't imagine doing what the younger soldier had to do. Because his enemy was always in front and in uniform.
as others have said this is is about Belgium's version of the Green Beret. The Bataillon de Chasseurs Ardennais (lit. 'Battalion of Ardennes Hunters', or more figuratively, 'Ardennes Light Infantry') is an infantry formation in the Land Component of the Belgian Armed Forces. Originally formed in 1933 to ensure the defense of Belgium's Luxembourg Province including the natural region of the Ardennes and particularly noted for its role during the German invasion of 1940, the unit currently serves as a mechanized infantry formation and forms part of the Motorized Brigade.
Despite the russians in the video, the song is about a small force of Belgian soldiers who never recieved the order to retreat and defended the border when Germany decided to use Belgium as a shortcut to France. They fought spaced out and so fiercely that the german force thought there was a much larger number of them, and when captured interrogated them where are the rest of the soldiers that fought, but they simply laughed and said "we are all"
