I miss this pack and wish I didn’t sell it. If anyone has an In and Out 19 in Mystery Pop they are selling for a reasonable price…. Get at me!

I love my In&Out. I can pack it inside my travel pack/luggage and have a daypack I can carry at my destination. Or, I have a backup for a friend.

Solid review. Enjoyed the rundown of different packing situations! Thanks for your work! I’m end up picking up this pack for my future travel post pandemic

Hi Jeff, Thanks for amazing review here. Just a few quick questions. Can I use one handed to put a small water bottle in and out from bottle pocket? Also, can I fit like 13 inches laptop in water bladder pocket?
    Thank you

You should be able to none hand a water bottle. But I do not think a laptop will fit.

Nicely done video! What type/name of the zippered yellow and red bag pictured in your Dad bag and day hike load out?

They are just some generic canvas pouches I bought on eBay a long time ago. But actually really like them, so I bought some more on Amazon for my larger day pack (Matador Beast 28…. The second order of pouches can be seen in that review). They were cheaper on Amazon the second go around so I snagged them there. Here is a link: amzn.to/3Ly5rCc

5:00 Even if a big fat Nalgen fit well in the pocket, who'd want 4 extra pounds hanging on one side, and who'd be silly enough to balance it out with a second bottle on the other side if they added the pocket?
If you're needing more than 20'ish ounces of water then just move on to a bladder to centralize the load on the straps and move it closer to your back.
This In and Out is intended to pack along in another bag, so there should already be a bladder in the mix, or just pick up a second Source 1.5-2L for this little Osprey.

I don’t know how old you are or how much hiking you’ve done. But a 32 oz nalgine use to be almost standard. Not only for hiking, but as a daily use bottle. I don’t know how many I’ve seen over the years. I can’t even count how many I’ve seen on trail in the Grand Canyon. A lot of people (myself included) don’t use a water balder. I find them to be comber and and uncomfortable to carry. And they always seem to delaminate on a seem at the worst time. The camel back chute I use in the video is my current standard bottle. And while it fits in the pocket, t can be a hassle to get even that into the pocket.

@@jeffgrantMEDIA I'm 50+ and have been in the bush from year 1 (ozark hillbilly) and I'm a diehard Source user (mil grade). I gave away the Osprey bladders that came with my packs. I've never had a Source fail on me, others yes, but not a Source. The trick is to toss them before they get sketchy or get nasty.
I also used to carry plastic Nalgene's, still do if I dont have a Smart bottle handy, but the bulk of my Nalgene use is stainless for boiling.
Lately I've been leaning towards a Grayl filter, Source bladder combo for extended trips plus a Self Reliance Outfitters titanium canteen set for boiling/cooking (MRE, coffee, etc).
Point is.. this bag is not intended to support all day hydration using a single bottle. If thats your plan, drop the big Nalgene in the bottom and use a smaller plastic bottle on the side, refill as needed, that also provides a backup in case of loss, crack or leak.
Granted, a second pocket on the other side seems to be an obviously silly omission.

@@dash8465 I agree this pack is not intended as an all day pack. It’s a packable day pack. It’s meant to be tossed in a larger backpacking bag for things like submitting, or a short hike from base camp. It can also be used as a travel companion. Toss it in your larger bag, and use it for city, day hikes, excursions when you reach your destination. The main flaw is the design of the water pocket itself. It has an odd shape to it that is hard to use. And it does not accommodate larger water bottles, which are popular with weekend warriors. The lack of a second water pocket.... I’m sure they did it to cut weight. As packable bags are meant to me very light. But it’s a miss. It having it. The bag does have a water bladder sleeve. But, I use it for organization. I’ve had to many bladder fail. Some day one. I only really use them now when I hike out west ( which I sadly haven’t done in a Few years now). Dry desert heat, I haul a lot of water.

@@jeffgrantMEDIA I think the idea is you'd transfer your bladder from your main pack into this little one if you're using it as a day pack away from main camp, or if you're traveling using a suitcase you're likely to be in some sort of civilization with bottled water available and you'd drop a fresh store bought bottle in the bottom, and a 2nd one on the side for a day of sight seeing or whatever.
I've been looking at the lower corner, the pocket is oddly shaped because they can't reshape the bottom to use the stretchy stuff all the way down - if they did, the corner that is oddly shaped now would become pocket material and it would abrade and shred quickly if used in the bottom corner (of any bag).
Still no excuse for just one pocket... it cant cost much and it weighs nearly nothing.
Besides, anyone willing to spend $80 on this kind of pack would happily pay another $5 for a second pocket, and its already ~1 pound so fussing about another ounce of pocket material is nonsensical.
