Carlos Firmino from Remax invited me to have a look at 2 properties, located only 5 minutes away from the Templar Village of Dornes, in the Ferreira do Zêzere, in Central Portugal. The two properties are in a village called Beco which is only 1.5 hours away from Lisbon. The area is home to many expats who either live nearby or have holiday homes. The Zêzere river runs from the Serra da Estrela through, Central Portugal and into the Tagus, which meets up with Lisbon, and the Atlantic ocean.
Its a great spot for water sports like boating, kayaking, sup boarding, fishing, swimming and relaxing on the many river beaches in the sun.

I can't believe how affordable the prooperties are. The first one is in exactly the kind of area I'll be looking at. One question: how good is the internet coverage typically in such an area. I work online, so this is a concern?

Water ...is the key to any sale..in my opinion. We have waterfalls and rivers that are now drying up.
Praying for an end to our drought. These agricultural focused proporties are great...but the local owners realise withought year round water..it is not viable.

I'm not sure, but over our way, all the neighbours share produce with each other. I'm sure they probably do the same

Hey, thanks 😊 I don't set prices or anything like that. I only make the tour videos. The asking prices can always be negotiated with the seller for interested buyers. I have seen similar properties for less in further out rural locations, but I think the main selling points with these two, are their proximity to the historic Templar village of Dornes, the Zezere River, and Lisbon.

8 months later and both properties are still on the market, despite a price reduction. Annual rainfall in this area is OK, despite 2-3 completely dry months, but what would stop me from buying is a lack of proper healthcare. If you're retired healthcare should be your n°1 priority, and it's just not available in the area. If you're younger and can work from home as a 'digital nomad' the area isn't very attractive either. This leaves you with a third option: converting the house for rental/B&B. But this isn't a spot that attracts many tourists. Whichever way I turn it, the numbers make very little sense. I hope the owners still get a good price for their home.

Homes in Portugal specially near the water are very humid and lots of mildew on the walls...
