His musicality is something that is so, so special. Even the most skilled dancers can't always draw you in the way someone like Jimin does. And what I love about BTS is that they have two masterclass dancers in their group with Jimin and J-Hope, howevever, the energy each gives is completely different to me. J-Hope has the sort of presence/energy that projects outward and shines upon you. With Jimin, I feel like the energy is drawn to him and you're almost pulled into his world.
I had the amazing opportunity to see them twice in Chicago this past weekend. One of the most memorable parts was in Jimin's 'Serendipity' when he does the choreo for the 넌 내 푸른 곰팡이 (You are my penicillin) and reaches up and out.........I literally gasped it was so beautiful.

You expressed their differences and didn't pit them against who's a better dancer" like so many do, which I applaud and thank you. They are both phenomenal each with unique style and presence. They contrast one another brilliantly. Thank you for accurately describing how so many people feel but aren't able to express it so eloquently. (And I know what u mean about his live performance. Saw them at MetLife & it was mesmerizing seeing them perform live.)

I think Lie is still one of my favorite songs with one of the best dances. The feeling you get while listening and watching him - being seductive and also kind of sinister - it‘s so good. Love your reviews :)

Victoria Unterweger It’s so clever. The dark seductiveness of the song replicates the temptation to lie, while the false major key change right as the word lie is sung replicates the lie itself.

About Jimin looking really tired: besides the fact that, like someone said in the comments, it probably wasn't the first take, his diet was pretty bad at the time and he wasn't in a very good mental place (in fact, the thoughts were pretty toxic) and that kind of mentality definitely has a toll on a person's fisical abilities and stamina. Just in case you were wondering 😃

I was thinking the same thing. This is the era where he wasn't taking care of himself well and they probably did do many takes because it was being filmed. Very possibly could have been like the 20th take or something

@@paulinemoira8442 Yet she still found this one of the most amazing things she has ever watched a kpop idol do dance wise. He really is someone special. There are so many skilled dancers in Kpop but few of them stand out to me. Not every idol has to sing or rap but every idol has to dance making it the most competitive field with the highest average skill level and the most difficult one to stand out in. Yet, Jimin is irrefutably an idol that stands out for dance even when he is exhausted. I came into Kpop not knowing anything about dance but Jimin won me over when I watched him dance. Now I have developed a huge interest in dancer idols to the point that its hard to be impressed by other idols when they dance. I think I could maybe list 10-15 dancers that stand out to me amongst the thousands. Its crazy that 2 of the best dancers in Kpop exist in BTS.

@@paulinemoira8442 He didn't eat 1 meal every 10 days, I'm almost sure that was a mistranslation, because he wouldn't have been able to dance at all if he hadn't eaten for several days. I think he meant that he only ate one meal a day for those ten days. But your point still stands, because that's still a starvation diet basically

I'm so glad you talked about the way Jimin does breaks/pauses in his dance moves! To me the most impressive thing for a dancer to do is break the flow of movement succesfully and/or professionally. It shows a lot of strength, like you said, to look like youre punching the floor without actually doing it. Or moving in such a way to give the illusion that youve hit a wall or have strings attached to you. I'm always so mesmerized by how sturdy Jimin is when he is doing contemporary dance, I can just imagine the amount of strength needed to stop yourself after a spin or jump without looking clumsy.
    He truely is class.

Your descriptions for dancing are always spot on and I find myself thinking about them in class and trying to incorporate them in my own dancing, so thank you! Jimin here is very interesting to watch for me because his movement quality can transform seamlessly from really hard, controlled hits to having this resistance like he’s moving through water. He uses every bit of the music and doesn’t move to the next step until he absolutely has to, which I think adds to his maturity and the fact that you don’t know where he’s going to move next, which is class. Also, as a ballet dancer, I am incredibly jealous of his turnout lmao

I bet Jimin's exhaustion part-way through isn't just that he's using a huge amount of energy, but also that it's probably not just one take. It's probably one of many that came before and after. So tiring!

    CIRCLE TIME
I think that "hip hoppy" type dance at the end was supposed to depict a struggle with his inner vs outer self... I think it was supposed to "stick out like a sore thumb" as you said. I'm not a dancer but I pride myself as one who can watch and really feel what the artist is trying to portray so I guess for me it fit in with the whole feel of the song itself
Also one of my favorite parts of the dance is one you didn't talk about. When her was on the floor, on his knees and he was just using his upper body to portray "the lie trying to come out and him trying to keep it in". I thought it was beautifully and smoothly portrayed. He is the best at giving you emotion in my opinion. Jimin is phenomenal

when I saw that you posted a breakdown of this specific video, I clicked so so fast, you have no idea. It is one of my absolute favorites. Not only because I am biased to Jimin's dancing. I really really enjoy watching him. All of the feelings: excitement, awe, complete admiration and even a little jealousy but absolute bliss at the same time. He is magnificent. I could watch him over and over again (and I have). I related so much when you said you initially watched the video seven times back to back and that it was like mana from heaven when you found it because same hahahaha. I watched it over and over and over again but it is chiefly irritating not being able to articulate in terms that make any cohesive sense what I'm seeing that I love so absolutely and why and how it all makes me feel. Dance does this to me in general but Jimin's dancing does this to me on a level far beyond much of anything I've ever seen.
So, thank you so much for posting this and talking about it and loving it and taking the time to make this video.
I want to comment on so many things but idk how to do that exactly and this message is already WAAAAYYY longer than it should be but I do want to comment on one thing in particular. The part that you mentioned stood out to you in stark contrast to the rest of the dance because it seemed more "ghetto" as is characteristic and natural in hiphop style movement and dance, which you compared the movements to. I agree and disagree with this. I'm not a trained dancer and maybe because of this my input holds very little water but as a lover of dance my whole life, although I noticed the contrast it wasn't as stark to me. I think that watching the dance in bits and then watching the dance as a whole lends to different perspectives of the movements and choices. What I mean by this is, Jimin's movements at that particular moment, when looked at in isolation from the entirety of the dance and the music and the song and it's content, may have seemed out of place or even odd as a choice. However, and you touched on this a bit in your explanation as well, I thought of the moves were chosen to not only represent the build in the music but also the struggle that was representative throughout the entire dance. And this is a biased opinion, my own personal revelation about the choreography and what it made me think and feel, but I thought the choreography showcased a struggle; a struggle between feelings of temptation and giving into a pull; innately wanting to fight back against it but simultaneously wanting to let go and give in to it. The lyrics in Lie also lend to this interpretation, he's reminiscing on times when he could smile, when he didn't feel trapped and that's what his movements made me think of: him being trapped and pushing back, fighting back but then, in brief, equally beautiful moments, where you'd see smoother movements, cleaner lines, not as much power or sharpness or rigidity? those were the moments he was remembering the peace he used to have, the happiness or even moments when he got tired of fighting back and gave in only to dive right back into the fight. Those movements in particular made me think of not only that build but as if it is his last 'hoorah', his last push. He's building himself up to push one last time, to reach one last time which made me feel like those movements were perfect. He's getting tired (and I don't mean literally) but he's getting tired of the fight, and the movements don't match the others because they're not supposed to, they're supposed to represent his tiredness and the GRIT. Grit is the word I'm thinking of. It lent power and even more humanity to the piece in my opinion. I love it.
If you actually read this, I solute you hahahahaha

I don't know if it's significant, but this seems to be a demo version of Lie, so I wonder if they always start learning choreo before the song production is even finalised. In my eyes this would make learning more difficult because details of the track are changing but in a way when the final version is reached you would have an amazing understanding of the song having gone through the making process, seeing how it morphs and changes would help see the emotion the PD is trying to show with it.
A massive strength BTS have for me is the fact that the music they dance to is THEIRS, it depends but generally speaking when you sing/write/compose/ help produce a piece you know it from all directions.

Actually from what I've seen, Jimin's choreos are the most difficult. It requires so much stamina and core strength and the way he transitions from tensing his muscles and eases it so quickly is very admirable. Yes there is a bit of softness to his dancing but you probably haven't watched enough of his choreos to see how powerful he is as a dancer. I think people use the wrong word when it comes to his dance style because he has that duality in his dancing where he could be soft and graceful but he has that unmatched intensity on stage as well because he can be fluid but then also sharp when he needs to be. His musicality is so advanced. I really enjoy watching him perform.

I really appreciate your efforts in analysing this and you go into so much more detail than any other dance analysis person and you are clearly more knowledgeable. Many dance analysis people don't really shed much insight into things and act like most other reactors so you quickly became a fav of mine. That said, though I understand your reasoning of him being able to just focus on dance since he doesn't have to sing, this probably wasn't the best piece for analysis cos of his physical state (even though he still performs amazingly). Maybe its good because he wasn't in the best state? Either way I would love to see you look at something more recent since this is years old but I understand that these videos do take a lot of time and rather than this being a request I just thought you would be interested to watch recent stuff regardless of whether you wanted to analyse anything. His Serendipity performances and the MMA fan performance were amazing. I also think this short fancam is really great at showcasing his body control: ua-cam.com/video/wzIVgNIWDlI/v-deo.html.

I really love how you broke down the dance moves here, the way Jimin dances is just so graceful and elegant to me. As if the way he dances also perfectly conveys the emotion of the song and not only with the lyrics and melodies. I've always noticed how complex and detailed his dancing looks, and I'm really pleased by it. Thank you so much for making this video 💜💜

It is so hard to take my eyes off of Jimin when he dances--I am sure everyone here knows the feeling--and I think I understand better why through your reaction to this dance. He makes accomplished dancing look so effortless.

From knowing nothing about dancing I am starting to learn. I was lucky enough to watch Jimin explain a dance move to an MC at a show. Jimin first showed the leg movements, then the arms and hands, and finally his head and expressions. He then displayed the combined motions. I was totally floored, utterly amazed. The whole move took less than two seconds !! I couldn't believe the intricacy needed for a split second movement. When BTS is dancing, I can't take my eyes off Hobi and Jimin. Their stage presence is overwhelming.

I just want you to know that I enjoy you enjoying and getting exciting over Jimin's dancing, because it makes ME EVEN MORE EXCITED because I LIVE for Jimin's dancing abilities and ability to.... musicalize???? His own body???? Or translate music into movement??? I don't know if that makes sense asdfghjk
I also fully agree that Jimin's lines are just on another level of gorgeous because as an illustrator, I often tend to lean towards dynamism and expression instead of anatomy perfection, and Jimin is always SUCH A TREAT to study from.
I have mixed opinions about Lie because the choreography is beautifully built and Jimin is such an exceptional performer and he made the choreography his, but we all know Lie was a super hard piece for him to execute.
Like, I think everytime a dancer takes part in a choreography (from what I've heard from my dancer friends) they kinda (sometimes? always? i don't know) create a whole character and in order to execute that character they need to access parts of their minds and feelings and it's like this never ending dialogue between dancer and the thoughts/feelings they're trying to express... and I think Jimin had a very hard time maybe not accessing the feelings, but not letting them get the best of him and just stay as something he exploits for the performance.
His ending product was wonderful, heartwrenching and overall it just makes you feel like you're watching someone fighting a never ending battle.
It's amazing how much he is able to transmit with his body, he's a great storyteller.
But anyway SORRY FOR RANTING AND thank you for getting excited I love your reactions you always manage to explain everything in a way that doesn't make me feel at a complete loss and it DOES MAKE SENSE because I can sometimes identify the things you are talking about and just nod in agreement and smile because YES SHE PUT IT INTO WORDS AND IT WASN'T HARD TO UNDERSTAND.
Idk Riki im just a huge fan of you and your channel, I missed your reactions so much they give me so much life, please be healthy and happy and yeah okay, bye uwu
PS: OK NO IM NOT DONE. REAL QUICK BUT I NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU FELT WHEN YOU WATCHED THE LEGENDARY 2018 MMA IDOL INTRO PERFORMANCE WITH HOSEOK JIMIN AND JK. this is not rly a request but i think that if i was unable to form coherent thought and just stared in complete awe the first time i watched it and am still unable to fully explain what watching that makes me feel, i can only IMAGINE what you felt.
Okay, Im done, Ily, bye uwu

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: He is the most graceful member of BTS. He paints a picture and tells a story with his body every single time he dances. He makes it look so effortless but I liked how in this video, you can really see just how hard he works and how passionate he is. Love! Side note: your commentary is lovely and I enjoy watching everything you put out! Keep it up!

Like you’re clearly a fan but also would appreciate the talent if you weren’t. Hi, again. Love your hair and earrings. So cute. So excited you talking about Jimin again. I can watch him dance and sing all day. His mesmerizing to me. All his movements are beautiful. Watching him and listening to him makes me smile. I just feel my stress leaving. I just resonate with him. In one of their ep. maybe american hustle not sure Jimin tells another dancer to listen to the beat. This made me smile because he is so rhythmic. He emotes so well too. BTS is teaching me self love and it's a journey you know. -baby army Brklyn, NY
