Harry August is a book that has stuck with me so much, i love all the concepts in North's books, such great ideas, but executed the best in Harry August!
I read The stars my destination recently and it’s insanely fast paced and cool. Other authors would have written 500 pages on what happens in the first 20.
I loved Harry August, five stars from me. Another fast paced book I read recently is Titanium Noir by Nick Harkaway. It's a typical sardonic noir detective character but this time with titans, people with superhuman body enhancement. One of them is found dead and the private eye guy can operate 'below' the law.
Hi Jonathan, Project Hailmary was a really fast turning page book for me. I’m currently reading The Three Body Problem and it also has been page turning.
The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August is so good, one of my all-time favourites. I recently discovered the Murderbot series by Martha Wells - fast paced robot goodness!
Ooo, I picked up “Daemon” via a rec. from Secret Sauce of Storycraft… The “keep reading at the end of the chapter” thing was something I found in “The Immortality Thief”. Otherwise I’ve read and very much enjoyed all subsequent books in your list here other than “Dogs of War” which I have (unread) on my Tchaikovsky shelf 🤗 I enjoy his books so much and he’s so prolific that he earned a dedicated shelf all to himself.
Your Patron Pick of the Month for this month , Lathe of Heaven , is quite the page turner. Other favorites: Babel 17, The Stars My Destination, & This Immortal .
@@mondostrat I just finished The Lathe of Heaven and enjoyed it. The Stars My Destination is another good one. I’ll have to check out the other two as well!
literally just finished Old Man's War a couple days ago lol. One of the funniest books I've ever read. The humour got a little trite at times for sure but I think the slight shift to a more serious tone in the last quarter of the book helped with that and it ended on a great note. Not sure if I loved it enough to pursue the rest of the series but it was a very fun read.
i really enjoyed Dark Matter. once i picked it up i couldn’t put it down. Plus it is a really light book so that made it feel even faster. I’m gonna be checking out dogs of war though, sounds interesting
Actually I had Daemon once but lost it before I could read it. After your review will pick it up again. I got part way thru altered carbon when I first got it but something happened and I put it aside. But again you’ve persuaded me to finish it. Also Just got Alien Clay by Tchaikovsky on the recommend of shades of Orange booktuber and looking forward to a great reading experience. You’ll be happy to know I now have Ender’s Game and maybe one day will actually read it haha. Be well.⚛❤
It’s been a long time, but I seem to remember David Weber’s Path of the Fury to be fast paced. Of course, his Honor Harrington series is what he’s most known for Old Man’s War just didn’t hit me, but I know how popular it is so it might just be me. Altered Carbon, however, is great
Started and ended with books I don't have. Well, the one in the middle too. Not a huge fan of "fast paced" anything, but it's good to have some options.
I have read all of your choices except Daemon and I think they are perfect for getting out of a reading slump. Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, Sea of Rust by C. Robert Cargill, and Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton could work also.
I thought Dogs of War was incredible. I think most Tchaikovsky is page turning goodness. I'd love to see a video on page turners from the 60s and 70s. Amazing decades for SF.
@@Raytrace3Dee Yeah, I guess I meant that in a way that I felt was detailed or believable. But that’s not really Tchaikovsky’s style. He comes up with interesting ideas and just runs with them.
