    Laurie stabbed Mike twice and made sure the kids were safe until Loomis showed up to do his job. She was not weak in the first movie, and she was drugged up and still survived in 2. She was just at her peak in h20. That was just a hot take.

    • @Tenwaystospoildinner
      @Tenwaystospoildinner 29 днів тому +9

      That dream sequence is why I hate the sequel. Not because it's bad or anything, but because of how good it was. I wanted that movie -- and I feel like making it a dream sequence cheapened everything we saw. I remember feeling like I got robbed when I watched the movie. Heh, Rob'd. Classic.
      Rest of the movie didn't live up to the promise that sequence gave us. I just can't get over it.

    • @zackphy
      @zackphy 29 днів тому +2

      @Tenwaystospoildinner if the rest of the movie was like that, it could have been an amazing sequel and could have been top 3 overall imo. Rob just couldn't help himself though and apparently just HAD to make it his own against the fans wishes. He wanted the 1st movie to be completely childhood after all with it originally being called Halloween Begins. What I wouldn't give for a full movie like that sequence though

    As far as next steps for the franchise, I think it would be cool to have Jamie Lloyd played by Danielle Harris living what appears to be a normal life with a family and kids and such. we find out that she is a Dexter type character who still has the urge to kill and sneaks murders. At the end of the first act, she botches one of the kills and is forced to set it up like Michael Myers has returned to cover her tracks. Then eventually the actual Michael Myers returns. It would be a direct sequel to part four and negate five and six and the whole thorn timeline.

  • @noahhrbek1598
    @noahhrbek1598 15 днів тому +1

    If you remove Halloween Kills from existence (or at least from canon) and take out the few references to it in Halloween Ends, Halloween Ends is a much smoother transition.
    At the end of Halloween 2018, we (and the characters) are left thinking they’ve defeated Michael. So, it makes sense that if Michael did survive, he’d be in terrible physical shape and be forced to go into hiding. It would also explain why Laurie is now ready to move on with her life. Maybe Karen’s absence can be explained in that she just needed to move away after what happened in 2018. Having the final showdown between Laurie and Michael not happen until the last 15 minutes would also be explained in the fact that she presumed him dead until now.
    Halloween Ends would surely still have its issues, but I think several of them could be resolved or softened simply by erasing Halloween Kills entirely.

    The idea of Dr Sartain only having had theory and reference papers on Michael following Loomis' passing and wanting to see Myers in action (as a practical experiment) is a sound one that could have been explored well, but they went about it in such a ham-fisted way that any potential was lost.

  • @DesiSJ
    @DesiSJ 29 днів тому +2

    I'm sorry I missed this, haha. However, my hot take would've been that Laurie Strode is a weak final girl as well. She's a fine character and I don't dislike her, but when you put her up against Sydney Prescott, Nancy Thompson, Ginny (F13)...she didn't do a lot of fighting back. With the exception of the needle in the neck, she did a lot of running and hiding.
    Also, 100% agree that Alice is a terrible final girl...She ranks last for me in that franchise.
    People also need to realize that those who didn't go through the moments as they were moments wont understand WHY they were moments. We are used to twist endings now but when Sixth Sense and Saw came out...that was a whole new experience. Its was the same way when my grandma showed me Psycho. That movie scared her to death. For me, who was already knee deep into slashers...it didnt scare me a bit. However in the 60s when that came out, no one had seen anything like it. Our horror history just needs to be respected, even if its not loved. I don't like TCM, but I get WHY its important to horror history.
    I still wish that at the end of Ends we would've seen the Silver Shamrock on Michael's mask. They had thrown everything else at the wall. Why not that? LOL

    As a certified H20 hater, I truly don't understand why that one gets as much love as it does. But different strokes for different folks as the kids say.

    Halloween Ends sucks because of where it is in the timeline.. If they would have ended Michael properly and then made a 4th movie where everyone thinks Michael came back and there was a Roy Burns style twist with Cory Cunningham, it would have been beloved and some people would be calling Cory their favorite over Michael. Not MOST people, but some.

    • @shredmaster2009
      @shredmaster2009 29 днів тому +2

      I agree with you that it was misplaced, but not with your proposed placement. I think it would have been best as a spinoff from the trilogy that takes place somewhere in between the first and last entries, but if it had to be part of the trilogy, I would have made it the middle and changed a LOT of things, like Michael being weakened and Laurie becoming Martha Stewart all of a sudden. It wasn't a bad idea necessarily, but when it's meant to be the finale to over 40 years of build-up and the main antagonist is absent/not up to his usual standard for most of the movie, and the big final battle promised in the ads feels like more of an afterthought, it does leave one feeling a bit cheated, for sure.

    • @squarepickle
      @squarepickle 28 днів тому

      @shredmaster2009 I wouldn't have put Michale and Cory in the same movie at all. I think a bait and switch would have been what made it different. Like Cory somehow got ahold of the mask, and everyone thinks Michael is back. I'm not sure if WHEN the movie took place would effect how well it works though. In the middle of the series would absolutely work because fans are expecting Michael to return anyway and eventually he would, but in a later movie. I think for me being after Michael died works better because it would still hint at Michael being supernatural only to reveal it's not Michael under the mask at all and he's been dead since the third movie. Both movies would work, but I don't think Michael and Cory should have been in the same movie unless it had Cory playing imposter the entire time and then the real Michael shows up after the reveal and just starts killing everyone including Cory. Weakening Michael to the point that he was literally pathetic and having him train Cory Batman and Robin style was Halloween 5 levels af trash writing. In some ways it was even worse as Halloween 5 at the very least still respected Michale Myers you take Michael out of the movie all together it could have been a nice stand alone movie.

    JLC earned her "The Final Girl" status due to her roles as the final girl in Halloween 1 and 2, Prom Night, The Fog, Terror Train, etc. I think she was great in Halloween 1 and 2 because she embodied what the final girl should be: innocent but smart and rising to the occasion and even sought danger and took charge. I think of her roles with Loomis were more of a tag team. But, I could see and argue that Nancy and Jinny were "better" final girls overall but Laurie is definitely top 5.

    Adding to your points on Resurrection and why it’s hated, H20 ended the franchise perfectly, and Resurrection just craps all over that for a cash in that isn’t worth watching.
    The thing with the H4 mask is that the actual mask was good but they for some reason made it pink and didn’t have time to get a new one so they painted it white and in doing so removed all the detail.

    I 100% agree with the part where you said that people need to stop saying objectively movies are better than others. It is subjective for sure. Movies are art and entertainment a persons opinion and how they interpret what they see is subjective. People watch movies for many different reasons. I for instance watch movies for entertainment. Some watch to criticize, some watch to experience a story, some to see the technical aspects. I don’t think 1978 is the best in the series but thats my subjective opinion. A movie experience is unique to each person.

    I would love to see there be a Halloween series of movies coming out that is about Michael Myers running around killing people and then have running alongside the movies is a Halloween TV show that is still linked to the Halloween movies but is an anthology series with no Michael Myers. An eight episode series of spooky Halloween tales that are thematically tied to the Myers films and has some subtle links to the current running timeline like having a character or two from those films pop up or having the tv series set in Haddonfield but not be about Myers killing dudes. It would give the fans something to watch in between the films and if they don’t like that there is no Myers stuff going on then they can simply not watch it and just watch the Myers films that would be coming out because the films wouldn’t require you to watch the show.

  • @TheThird1977

    Regarding horror remakes, I wrote an article in 2010 (to coincide with the Elm Street remake) called "Why the current trend for horror remakes should be encouraged, not shunned" and basically summed it up as the modern age's version of hearing a story around the campfire in medieval times, then going back to your clan and retelling the story to your people, but with embellishments and tweaks, while a visitor to your village listens on before heading back to HIS clan to tell his version of the story, and so on and so on.
    Horror cinema, especially classic horror cinema worked in cycles. Universal did the monster movies in the 30's for Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, and The Mummy. These characters were recycled in the 50's to the 70's with Hammer Studios, the 80's had their versions, the 90's really went for it with Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man and The Mummy again getting big-budget high-profile releases.
    We are now in the era where the characters created in the 70's and 80's (Michael, Freddy, Jason, Leatherface, Pinhead, etc) are now the classics being retold for the current generation's campfires. It keeps these characters alive and will spike interest in the originals to boot.
    Don’t hate the remake culture, embrace it, cherish it. It’s been around for almost as long cinema itself and it’ll still be around long beyond the time we reach the afterlife. Take them for what they are; updates of old stories, created to introduce classic characters for a new generation to be scared.

      Nah, I think the idea of Michael infecting someone else with his evil is unique and could work. Just not the way they did it and decided to execute it. They chose the complete wrong direction to do it. Hell, even Rob Zombies Halloween 2 did a less exaggerated/ more realistic approach. It wasn’t exactly evil that passed onto Laurie, but forcing her to survive and kill him. Mentally screwed her up and turned her into some grunge metal head. 😂 more align with PTSD changing her to someone she never was and injecting a bit of evil into her. Before she effectively turned evil depending on the cut you watch.

      However, it wasn’t really “the evil infecting him” in Ends so much as an emotionally beaten & mentally broken man coming face to face with an extreme/kindred spirit and realizing that there was a way he could get back at everyone who wronged him

      @@famousthaneus9810it was Christine copy and pasted under the Halloween IP. Michael/his mask is the car. It’s lazy and schlocky. David Green admitted that Corey is a self-insert of himself and the movie is shallow in its dissection of evil. It’s overly self indulgent, almost pretentious, & poorly executed.
      Halloween 4 will forever be superior to Ends. The aspect of Jamie becoming like Michael after surviving the entire night weighs far heavier than anything shown in Ends. That and her transference/snapping point is done so much more respectfully to the ambiguous nature behind what drives Michael - that was meticulously constructed in the original movie. 2018 & Kills are more respectful to the original than Ends. Ends new how much of divergence it was going to be that’s why it has the blue Halloween 3 font for it’s title cards and credits. The novelization for Halloween Ends is exactly what should’ve been filmed because there is far more going on and a lot of connective tissue between Halloween Kills & Ends. More insight to the survivors, the aftermath, Laurie & Allyson’s own individual mental health struggles, the state of the town. The actual film is in the bottom 5 of the franchise for me.

      100%. I've always said the Cory story wasn't bad, it just wasn't good for the ending of a trilogy. Especially when we followed Cory throughout the movie, but for him to be killed at the end & everything to be turned back to Laurie & Michael. It just seemed like 2 different movies were stitched together.

    A good example of the remake debate is the 2001 Ocean's Eleven. I saw it at like 12 or 13 and loved it and still do. It's one of the most visually kinetic and best written movies I've ever seen. The 1960s original is fine for what it is but I do not connect with it at all, which would sound blasphemous to people alive in the 60s when the Rat Pack was at its peak. The point is, it's fine if you like one more than the other: everyone's viewpoint on film is different.

This may be a stretch, but I like to view the ending shots as a comment on generational trauma and trauma in general. Michael is gone and grandma, mom, and daughter are safe together, but still Allison is holding onto that bloody knife, unable to let go just like she criticized Laurie for earlier in the film. They’re alive, but they’ll all be carrying that trauma for the rest of their lives, and if Allison is not careful, she’ll pass it on to her children too.

    I’m not here to cheer for the new trilogy, there is way more disappointment in them for me than approval, but the more I have thought about it the more I may agree that it was a planned storyline. The Gordon Green trilogy is an inverted remake of the OG three films. Like John Carpenter’s Halloween, Halloween (2018) has an escaped mental patient return home but instead of stalking Laurie, she flips the script on him. Also, instead of the doctor being here to help, he’s actually a force for evil, too. Halloween Kills, like Halloween II, features a hospital heavily in its plot and Laurie is mostly relegated to inaction, but the inversion has a mob of people face the killer rather than a final girl. And finally, Halloween Ends, like Season of the Witch, is not a Michael Myers film and if you took that element out of it, it would still stand as its own thing. However, unlike Season, Ends shoehorns in the Michael/Laurie dynamic into a movie that is not about Laurie and Michael. There you have it. The Gordon Green trilogy is an inverted remake of the OG three films.

Being beaten injured and MEDICATED to the point of barely being conscious and still being smart enough and strong enough to evade MICHAEL MYERS and escaping by putting two bullets in his head just doesn’t count. I don’t understand this take at all. I mean I like Alice and Ginny (though I think Lorie is far better written than Alice) But considering Alice is an admitted clone of Lorie Strode and Ginny I think is about on par with her with that child psychology she was majoring in.
