- DIY motion simulator build. I'm going to go over some new devices which may help you connecting the arduino R3 to the IBT-2 motor controllers and aluminum couplers I bought to connect the crab pot motors 12v to the hall effect potentiometers.. this the a road rage video - I'm answering your questions about your own diy motion simulator builds. so take a look and I hope this information helps some of you guys.. remember to ask questions if you have any.. it's a complicated subject your first time building a motion simulator - so this channel (DMax motion simulator channel) is here for your questions.. enjoy the video and please comment if you have a question.
featured components - the aruduino uno, the IBT-2 motor controllers, the hall effect sensors.. I'm answering some of your questions with the way that I do this and what problems you may encounter.. It's a bit of a long video for me but if you really are interested in DIY motion simulators, like this 3DOF DIY motion simulator I showed how to make in the "compact" motion simulator series, then this video is for you.. please comment as I do attempt to cover even the most basic soldering, what to order, how to do it etc..

other motor controllers you could consider using are JRK12V12 or Sabertooth but I use IBT-2's
XSIMULATOR forum - Info specifically for arduino/IBT-2 for 1 to 3 Motors. You can use up to three motors per arduino. But you each motor needs it's own IBT-2 controller.

Dave, first off big thanks to you and you content, you’ve made at least one additional motion rig via me through your channel. I’ll try to put something on x simulator or even a brief video and give you a shout so you and others can see it. Anyway super thanks for all the hard work you do supporting people like me!
P.S. what do you do for motion compensation when playing VR?
Thanks Kyle for the super Thanks! It will always go right into the parts for the channel. Appreciate you watching my friend!. Motion compensation - That's a weird one.. I dont use any.. I have the Oculus Rift CV1 which is *outside / In * camera.. I have one camera to the right of me when I am driving and experience no issues at all. But my VR setup is older 2012/13 ? so they have made advancements.. I want to do a series on setting up others but they cost a lot (just for a test and configure setup) maybe some day they 'big guys' will send me something to 'try out ' and review or at least 'try out'.. so For now.. I'm saying - no motion comp necessary with the 3dof and a Oculus Rift CV1 . Thanks again Kyle.. Dave
Yea it’s my only gripe at the moment with the motion. I have the motion set pretty low for this reason and it’s not too bad but there are weird relative shifts in movement in VR for me. I have a not as old but still old Rift S which doesn’t have external bases. Either way I’ve tried a few things but I’ll keep searching. Appreciate the response.
always great stuff! Any time I'm doing Arduino projects I remove the headers and replace them with screw terminals, its a pain de-soldering and soldering on new connectors but once you've done it, you have a much tidier board with the option of swapping wires around and not undoing all your hard work
Pude armar mi 2dof gracias a sus videos, muchas gracias, Señor Max
Saludos desde México 🇲🇽✌️
Translation : I was able to build my 2dof thanks to your videos, thank you very much, Mr. Max Well heck of a good job my friend! Keep pluggin away and having fun.. It's awesome when these things come together and are 'in the game'.. Dave!😃
Tell Terry to use one of those handheld instant read infrared thermometers to check temp of his motor controllers immediately after they cut out. I had similar problem with my TL motor (my rig is kinda heavy) and found that it was just pulling too hard and hitting a thermal cutoff. Fixed the problem by using 2 motor controllers (IBT) for the one motor. Thanks again for all the work D! One of these days I am gonna actually have time to get my library of pics from building and function and send them to you to check out so I can get input and opinion from the master....(i.e., the man mostly responsible for the rabbit hole I have fallen into)😆 Keep rollin' man!
That's a pretty good idea.. I have a thermal probe and they are easy to use. Yeah.. just use your library of pics and put them together (copy paste) into one document for x sim.. that's the way I did it.. actually worked pretty good.. FYI do a chatchy header or whatever they call it.. so it's new and not the same old stuff .. Keep pluggin away.. - My power is out for the last 6 hrs so running on gen - I'll check back tomorrow.. finally got that video posted up.. Dave
Thanks! Your documentary motion sim videos sparked the fire in me 1.1/2years ago to create my motion simulator love the content keep it coming
Rkc7286! Thanks so much my friend! Going to to put that towards the channel! I appreciate you taking a look at the videos and This is some real cool stuff! Yeah It's so much better than a static rig. Hope my videos help out a bit.. just keep asking questions if something is not clear< and I will answer best i can my friend! Thanks again for supporting ! DAVE
Tôi là người nông dân ở Việt Nam tôi rất thích video của bạn..tôi không có tiền để làm combo mô hình đua xe trên PC
Translation: I'm a farmer in Vietnam I love your video..i don't have money to make combos of racing models on PC ........ Thanks so much my friend! Yeah it takes a little while to save up to get parts.. but you can do it - one part at a time - That's what I did on my first rig - just saved up a little bit at a time and spread it out.. in a few months.. I had enough to start building.. Keep pluggin away DMAX
Hey Dave. You've been a bit quiet of late, so hope all is well with you and yours. I like what you have brought to the table in this video regarding the Arduino shields and the pin outs you can hard solder without risking your IBT's or UNo R3's. Great info mate. I'm going to track these down and implement into my setup. Still hoping to get my rig moved out of the work shop closer to an internet connection so I can get on board with the Gentleman's League races. You know how it goes with these rigs, always something to tweak and have fun with. Take care fella.
I'm good my friend! Just a big summertime project for me building a 'screen' room.. been taking all my free time during the weekends to get it 'rain proof' so finally got that done this weekend. Yeah I want to move my new rig into the house (or the screen room to free up a bit of space in the garage.. keep pluggin away and I will watch your videos ! Hopefully posting my own soon in a month or so when it gets a bit cooler.. I't been over 100 degrees in the shade out here this last month and a half! Dave
Ha, just did this yesterday.. The connectors kept coming off so, just soldred a from bottom and wrapped over. Use tape for strain releas so it doesn't pull out. This was for Wind (Left/Right channels) so it won't ever change, might as well solder.
Wilson! Yeah It's maddening when random things just stop working (loose connections). All the stuff is moving depending on how you set it up. I'm just trying to (take advice) and figure out the best way to do it. Keep pluggin along my friend! Dave
Great Stuff Dave, Thanks for your Vids, time, and knowledge. Keep up the good work
Thanks RacerXTc Online. I appreciate you taking a look at this video cause it did take a while to answer all the questions.. See you on the track my friend! Dave
Love the road rage vids! Thanks for making the time to answer everyone’s questions 😎 Maybe your daughter will make the time to try out the rollercoaster VR this weekend 🤷🏻♀️
Well Thanks so much for the comment B! Yah.. I know she walks by it every day.. Maybe this weekend will be the one! DMAX
I like video
Thanks my friend! Thanks for taking time to watch.. And if you have questions. Let me know.. I try to answer them.. Dave
THX DAVE! I been busy too!
I'm good.. hope you are ok too. Just on the road too much.. not a lot of time to do stuff at home.. looking forward to this weekend. building stuff.. racing. and building stuff and racing again hopefully.. Dave
Hi dave mate keep up your great content
Thank you Bandit!
very entertaining. as always :))
Thanks my friend! More to come pretty soon! Dave
Hi @Dave, haven't heard from you for a while now. Hope everything is fine.
nice job but I will say one thing, using JRKs would have been a lot easier and they work a lot better, than ards.
Eit, I read you didnt use them , but as that idiot noorbeast runs the forum, its not surprising he didnt help properly.
I bought two JRK 12V12's a while ago .. I have not had time to test them out.. So far, I've not had any trouble with the arduino/ IBT combo.. been running them for 3 years now.. But Like I said.. i do have two of the JRK's.. I will test them eventually.. I would also like to test out the Sabretooth 2x32. I heard it was a really 'top of the line' motor controller. So Hopefully later this year I can push on with some better controllers and see what they are all about .. Thanks for the comment! Dave
@DMAX_DIY the ards have come a long way. The code you probably use is from xsimulator, a code that was developed about 6 or 7 years ago. It revolutionalised ards and MM on diy motion.
I've been using jrks since the beginning. (Near 10 years ago I started) Virtually plug and play. No code to write or modify, the old 12v12 will throw 14v at 45amp spikes no problem. The new G2 would power even more. The position of resolution is 4095, and that's really accurate . They perform well.
The sabertooths, I've seen, work really well and power a lot.
I will keep an eye on the progress here.
Cheers.
