An iconic top of the range Ford Cortina Mk3 2000 GXL with 62,518 miles.
EQUIPMENT
All steel welded integral construction, safety glass all round, laminated windscreen, air extraction vents, vinyl roof, underriders, special black paint scheme on grille with GXL badge, applique panel at rear, automatic choke, windshield and rear window inserts, bright bumpers, bodyside rubbing strip, cigar lighter, push button radio, boot mat, two speed wipers, electric screen wash, electric clock. Centre console unit containing; ammeter and fuel, temperature and oil gauges. Factory options; Fabric trimmed seats, 185/70 R13 radial tyres, inertia reel front seat belts. Dealer options; Leather gear lever knob, sports steering wheel.
EXTERIOR
The instantly recognisable ‘coke bottle’ shape of the Mk3 Cortina is every inch a 1970’s icon and this example looks stunning in the original colour of Ermine White, (Code B). The paintwork looks fantastic with a uniform finish and all panels are in good condition with remedial work carefully undertaken to uphold the appearance. The original black vinyl roof is in superb order with no lifting and only a very small shallow ding to the nearside edge. The unique GXL badges and trim sections are factory fitment and all trim pieces are fully intact with only light tarnishing to some chrome sections around the rear lights. One of the rarest and most sought after of all Cortina’s, this range topping 2000 GXL presents very well indeed.
INTERIOR
The super stylish Mk3 Cortina interior features special extra padded GXL seats which in this example are trimmed in factory optional Black Fabric, (Code A1). The seats are in very good order with firm structure and only minimal wear. The upholstery is damage free aside from a slight thinning of the fabric to the driver’s seat upper bolster. Matching door cards with simulated wood veneer are fully intact as are the trim sections, handles and perforated headlining. The dashboard is completely free from cracks and houses fully functioning equipment and switchgear with exception of the non-functioning radio. The centre console houses the four extra gauges, unique to the GT models and range topping GXL model. Slight fading to the toggle switches is a minor observation to an otherwise brilliant 1970’s GXL interior.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Ford’s time tested and trustworthy 2000cc OHC ‘Pinto’ unit needs little introduction. With a power output of 112bhp, a top speed of 103mph and a 0-60 time of 10.2 seconds all allow the car to match the pace of modern traffic with ease. The engine is very quiet and smooth and performs just as it should. The engine bay is clean and displays the original chassis stamping to the inner wing as well as plates and labels which are factory fitted as opposed to the often-seen replacement aftermarket items. The four speed all synchromesh manual gearbox feels light with a positive clutch action and relaxed motoring is effortless.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five styled sports road wheels have been refurbished and look great, and the chrome embellishers are mirror bright with only the lightest of markings. Four matching branded Falken Sincera in the factory size of 185/70 R13 have ample tread remaining. The hydraulic dual line brakes with servo assistance offer great stopping power and complete assurance.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Ford Main Dealer, Swale Motors Ltd of Sittingbourne, and first registered on 19th April 1972, this early Mk3 Ford Cortina has covered just 62,518 miles from new with only three former keepers in total. Mr Tobin, the last owner of 13 years wanted to find the most original example possible and set about improving the car to attend shows and enjoy recreational outings. The original Ford Sure wallet houses all handbooks and dealership literature including the guarantee cards and the original service book. There is a file of invoices and previous MOT certificates and two seats of keys and aerial keys too. There is even a genuine Ford Cortina range brochure from 1972!
Now hugely desirable thanks in part to the cult television series, Life on Mars, the Mk3 Cortina GXL presented here is perfect for the next budding ‘Gene Hunt’ wanting a useable and great looking classic guaranteed to draw much admiration.

I still think this is the best looking Cortina by far with the four headlamp set up and the vinyl roof. Chap in our street had a metallic purple 2000E, dad on the other hand was very loyal to BMC or BL as it was by then so he had a Marina 1.8 HL. Never thought they looked as good with the rectangular headlamps, I know all manufacturers did it back then but can you imagine modern manufacturers having different headlamp set ups and sometimes completely different front ends depending on what trim level you ordered.
Thank you for your comment!
My Father had a Gold metallic mk3 GLX with his flares, leather jacket, mutton chops, period silver shades, Cheese Cloth shirt he was a cool guy ..RIP 😎 Dad
Thank you for sharing
Yeah, the gold one was the best. Good taste, your dad.
God bless your dad and family. Eamon in ireland.
Lol so did mine, well the car anyway not the rest. We obv have photos and his had wing mirrors at the front of the wings plus extra driving lights as they called it, probably just fog lights
My dream car when I was about 12, still love the look!
A gorgeous looking car. All Cortina's are great but stylistically the MK 3''s my favourite. I had a bright orange one back in the day.
Wow, we would lobe a bight orange.
My late grandfather had an orange Cortina as well. Lovely car.
My next door neighbour had one in the mid 70’s in yellow ,so jealous they had the best car in the street, stunning example...👍
Very cool!
Brings back memories of my dad's Mark 3 GXL 2000 in yellow back in the early 70's. I still remember the licence plate number, LLR 353K. It was such a cool looking car. 😎
Thank you for sharing!
Wow. ....what a dream car. Would love to own that beauty.
Thank you, yes a dream car.
These were the EPITOME of RUGGED, MANLY, SEXY NESS! My uncle had this exact same Cortina in thát gorgeous green metallic with black vinyl roof - what a beaut!
Thank you for sharing!
Great design, 2000 GXL Mk3 Cortina is brilliant!
Brilliant design!
"She doesn't care about the 2 litre, twin carburetor Pinto engine that thrusts you from zero to sixty miles per hour, in a mere 10.6 seconds. All she knows is that your hands are nice and warm on her inner thigh, thanks to the upgraded heating and ventilation system.
She is also unaware of any sudden gear changes, due to the full syncromesh gearbox, fitted as standard (ideal for when she needs to beautify herself in the vanity mirror, built into her sun visor)"
Original Cortina ad, circa 1972.
Thanks for sharing
VERY good price, looks a really good car. Would cost twice this to restore to this level. VERY NICE>
Thank you!
your are like this m8
The vinyl roof really takes the white from plain to smart looking, GXL trim doesn't hurt either. Great offering. 👍👍
Thank you, this is a great offering!
My Dad had one, that colour and vinyl roof. I got to drive as an18 year old when i passed my test. Grat car in its day.
Thank you for sharing!
Wow what a stunning FORD Cortina MK3. I Have the pick up 1977 and restored it. Drive it one's a week. What a pleasure!!!
Great enjoy your pickup!
This car is just gorgeous, I love it.
So do we!
Almost crying this was my very first car mark 3 cortina never thought back in the early 1980s this would be worth so much today, mind I would quite happy to be given a donation of one 😃
Thank you for watching!
Ahh that mk3 gxl is the best of all the cortinas absolutely love this car 🏁🏁🏁
Thank you, we love it too!
Lovely stock wheels and steering wheel, and it seems like no door droop. Vinyl always suits this car best. The Coke Bottle was the best of the Cortinas, I reckon. The more of these you find in good nick, the merrier.
We would like to find more!
OMG this was my school run in the mornings in 1974. Great shots and video. Eamon in ireland.
Thank you for the kind words
Nice car i seem to remember seeing loads of these in 80's rusting away &worth peanuts. This one is a true survivor nice to see
Yes like most fords they do rust!
We own one just like this. It's gorgeous, fast, and reliable.
Great cars!
Out of all the Cortinas the mk3 has to be my favorite. The interiors are just so of that time, you could tell the stylists back then must have had a lot of joy designing these cars.
We like Cortina's too!
The yellow paintwork looked awesome on the GXL- wonderful car!
Had a gold 2000E once with a leaky sunroof. Wolfrace wheels. Loved that thing even when the roof leaked 🙂
Convertible!
God, this brought a tear to my eye, we have blinked and our lives are gone! I'll bet that took all of 20 seconds to sell.
Not even that long!
"You thought you had a dose of the clap, but it turned out to be a full round of applause"
Gene Hunt.
Nice motor btw.
Thank you.
One of my dream cars 😍
Glad you like it!
Beautiful car, love the GXL!
We agree!
I’m so jealous that’s just a dream on wheels how beautiful I love it 👏👏👏👍
Beautiful!
My mum and dad apparently had one just like this some time before I was born. I do vaguely remember the mark 3 estate that replaced it which was a 1974 1600 or 2000 XL in bright red with RoStyle wheels. I sat in the hard plastic child seat in the middle of rear seat. They were Ford loyalists in the 1970s to the mid 1980s.
Thank you for your comment!
One of the best looking Fords ever designed! Back in the day these were as common as Starlings on our roads. Super rare now. This one looks fabulous and in Arctic or is that Ermine White? with the black vinyl roof highly desirable! That classic Coke bottle styling never dates, I notice too the classic bouncy Rev counter needle! Id kill to own this car!!
It is Ermine white thank you for your comment!
Plenty in Australia with V8s in them
It looks better than modern Fords now!!!
Thank you for your observations
Fantastic cars, but I think you should add some music, maybe age related, to these walk arounds as there is something oddly creepy about them...
You hit the nail regarding the creepy part. He loves the sound of old car doors slamming too.
Please do not be scared!
Very Nice!My dad had a silver Mk3 2000XL.A very nice car to drive👍!
Great cars to drive!
Beautiful, just beautiful!
Thank you!
Awww we had a blue one but it got sprayed red...always been my fave ford uk
Sounds sweet btw!
Thank you for sharing
Beautiful car my late dad owned 2 of these ,,2 litre GTs
Thank you for sharing!
My very first car but not with out its problems went on and purchased another 2 cortinas loved them
Thank you for sharing!
Lovely beautiful car
We agree!
Utterly beautiful example of an iconic car! Wish I had ten grand to spare!
Thank you for the kind words
You amaze me with these fords its like been back in the 70s
Thank you and keep watching for more fords!
I had a gold in 1986 but was the last of the mk3 with the mk4 dash and steering wheel. Great car, loved it
Thank you for sharing!
Mechanically the 70s wasn't in the same league as cars today obviously. But they sure knew style, something that seems to be dead in the family car section of today's market. What a beautiful car. My father had a pale blue MK3. I think it was a 1.6L - I know he loved it. He also had a MK4 and a MK5 afterwards. The MK3 was his favourite though.
Thank you for sharing!
For some reason I never took to Mk3's. I was a Mk2 or Rootes Arrow fan. But as the years went and father time took the majority away I have to say that Ford got the Mk3 absolutely right, especially in Gxl or 2000e form.
Thank you for your comment we are fans here!
Wow . I had a 1977 MK3 one of the last. Yours looks superb.
Thank you and yes, superb.
A stunning looking car indeed. They fetch a lot of money today in that condition. Beauty
Beauty!
The best looking Ford sold in Europe ever. Detroit Coke Bottle elegance!
Great looking!
Love it - never seen one in white.
Looks great in white!
Gorgeous! The Mk3 Cortina was such a great looking car. The seat fabric has survived so much better than the velour Ford used on Cortina and Granadas in the late Seventies and Eighties. So many Granadas have “baggy” seat fabric!
Thank you for your comment!
I had the more rare 1972 1.6GXL4door in Daytona Yellow (XFV,,,L) in 1985 and loved the earlier pre facelift dash. Everything on this car looks 100% accurate.
Thank you for sharing!
It would look very period with pressed steel black and silver plates or the plastic white number type, although probably from new had the more common by 72 white/black/yellow.
Stunning, absolute beauty, sounds great too. Oh how loud is that clock btw haha, wonderful.
Stunning!
Lovely car. They had a short run of the MK 3' Cortina in Australia with the straight six, late '70s . Remember being taking to school in one, once or twice. 4.1 litre. 250 ci.
Thank you for your comment!
Growing up my Mum had one of these but in Australia they had a 250ci Crossflow. Went Hard!!
Thank you for sharing!
Outstanding car
Thank you!
Lovely car seems very well priced comperd to something with an RS badge 😍👍👌
Thank you for the comments
I worked with an American bloke in the 80's and he had a red one of these and he kept it in immaculate condition. It was beautiful.
Thank you for your comment!
Beautiful car, that pinto sounds glorious 👍
It sounds great!
Stunning car.I wish I had it. My mum had a red 2000 GXL in the late 1980s. I would clean it for her, and polish it, and she sometimes let me drive it.Some people would comment on it, and say:" lovely car mate".. and I would proudly say:" it's my mums".
Great thank you for sharing!
A classic!!!!
Very much so!
My father had a 1600 L in 1973 SLO491L. I inherited it in 83'. Head gasket went in 86' and I got 500 quid trade in on a Fiat Uno 60s. Loved both cars.
Thanks for sharing
Beautiful.
Beautiful!
Great car we used to chip in and buy any old cars and just drive them on farm rds and feilds one of them wad a cortina forget what it was but it was top of the range with big brown leather seats so comfy I used to sleep in it
Thank you for sharing!
@@KGFClassicCars bit of useless information but numerous Mk1 escorts. One was a vauxual firenza 2.3 droop snoot.2 opel kadet coupes. Original coper s with its registration in history of Cooper s book.. Nothing like the mint escorts you getting in but pretty rare and expensive cars now a days. Cheers
Thanks for these videos, such a nostalgia trip seeing cars my dad (and I) owned over the years. He'd have loved to see these. He owned I think a 1.6L(?) followed by a 2.0 Ghia if my memory serves me right.
Thank you for sharing!
wow she a star from norfolk i had a gold one in 80s
Thank you for your comment!
That's mint labour of love but 20 years on if kept as is would be an amazing car for the next generation of ford lovers like my 8 year old son to see...👌🏼🙏🏼🇬🇧
A great car for all to see
You're gonna be gutted if your son ends up with a Nissan Leaf as his favourite car, when he is old enough 🤣
The top of the range without sat nav?.. This is a nice blast from the past. My Dad owned 2 of these. Lovely memories. This motor looks pristine. Great to see.
It came with a road map in the book pack!
Lovely original example! Anyone liking these should see the Pete C UA-cam channel. He restores mk3 GXLs. He’s currently doing a two door one. On his last one he added power steering and an overdrive auto gearbox while retaining the original looks. The current build is his fourth! (He even repurposes the push button blaupunkt radio to run mp3, Bluetooth etc)
Thank you for sharing
@@KGFClassicCars his channel is cortina city
@@mikeatcora swampy is a great looking motor
Love his work but I wish he’d stop overdoing the dash upgrades- flashing lights everywhere, wrong steering wheel, too much wood. This GXL is as it should be. Original in every detail.
The top of the range mk3 cortina was the 2000E. The mk3 was still one of the best fords built. I had the 2000E an excellent car
The 2000E was a later model in 1972 the GXL was top of the range!
KGF Classic Cars I doesn’t state what year it is and the 2000E was still a mk3
Classic!
Yes!
Going to stop watching your videos. This is absolutely stunning so many memories 😥😥
Stunning!
Wow! It's stunning! I had a 1973 one in Pearl Grey metallic around 1978, sadly someone decided to rearrange the rear end for me when it was parked outside my parent's house, write off. It wasn't as good as this though.
Shame thank you for sharing!
so beautiful.
It is!
Ford Cortina Mark 3 2000 GXL neat condition neatly bulit.
Yes, neat condition!
KGF do it again. What a beautiful machine well done guys.
Thank you, we appreciate the kind words.
I would rather have this than an e-type jag. This is the best looking car ever made. The four door with 4 round headlight spec to be precise and ideally in a dark colour but this is still beautiful.
Thank you for your comment!
@@KGFClassicCars No problem, just let me sit in one if I ever visit!!!
Time warp, suddenly its 1972 again. Looks lovely, we’re door / wing mirrors an optional extra, on these particular cars ?.
This is going to sell quickly, that’s for sure.
Yes, time warp. The brochure does not list door or wing mirrors as standard equipment. Chromium plated mirrors with either flat or convex lens are listed in the 'Ford Accessories for your new Cortina.
Yes mirrors were an option on these.
The English “Coke Bottle” Cortina Mk3 was SO much prettier than the German Taunus of the same period!
Thank you for your comment!
Loved my 2000gxl blue /white vynil roof k reg traded my mint 2000e Corsair in aurbegine for it went on to have a couple ofcapris luv them fords
We love fords!
Style still looks good has aged well and what a whopper of a specimen.
The Styling is great!
Would love one of these things.
Thank you for sharing!
That bloke is still wearing them red socks. Brilliant car had mark 3 back in the day love them . Void bushes and regular oil changes a must. The early pinto engine suffered premature Camshaft failure due to oil spray bar problem . Was improved but clean oil and quality oil a must
Thank you for your comment!
I honestly thought these cars in this condition would fetch double that price,if I had the spare cash and extra room in garage I would snap this up.
Thank you for the comments
Absolutely beautiful, another KGF classic gem. Stunning. I'd love to see under the bonnet?
Thank you. Lots of photos here: www.flickr.com/photos/kgfclassiccars/albums/72157713604908056
Thank you very much, the photos are great and the car is even better. I take my hat of to you guys, the Cortina is probably the best example iv ever seen. It's an amazing car. Thanks KGF 🙂
Regards from your biggest fan 👍
I had the GT version, same livery with full slide back sunroof. Fantastic car, lost the battle with the rust sadly☹
Nice car but someone seems to have knocked the wing mirrors off!
The brochure does not list door or wing mirrors as standard equipment. Chromium plated mirrors with either flat or convex lens are listed in the 'Ford Accessories for your new Cortina.
@@KGFClassicCars OK that's a bit stingy of Ford lol
KGF Classic Cars they had wing mirrors on the wings as standard
My first repmobile, a 1600 L model in light blue. Loved it!
Wouldn’t get far in today’s traffic without door mirrors, that’s for sure.
Beautiful.. Anybody who’s a fan of these should check out “Pete C” UA-cam channel. Don’t mean to plug anybody but he finds these and restores them to pristine new. Well worth a look. 😉
Been watching his restoration, he really is excellent.
Thank you for sharing.
Watched them all pal and very entertaining.
Pete C is a friend of mine. He's a really nice guy.
I love what he has done but I think he's overdone it with the wooden dash modifications on Rubie and Bramble. I much prefer it the way it should be like this beautiful example.
Gorgeous, and jealous as feck! Even if I do prefer the facelift models, I wish mine was half as nice.
Thank you for your comment!
@@KGFClassicCars You're welcome, it reminds my of my 76 Diamond White GT I had back in the 80's. It wasn't white for long though, most of the bodywork had rotted due to the previous owners fondness of driving up and down Formby beach I suspect. It had sand everywhere. It ended up looking like a United Colours of Benneton car after I replaced everything I could unbolt! X¬D
That looks mint I would love a mk3 cortina especially the 2.0 GXL. It would have to be in copper bronze metallic with a black vinyl roof as I'm a massive life on mars fan.
Thanks for sharing
Lovely looking car. I've heard of the Ford Cortina, but for some reason, they were never sold in the USA, unless they were sold for such a limited time, and in such limited numbers.
The Capri was the only one I know of, in that era, that made it to the US.
I know. I was a boy at the time, way too young to drive. But I remember the Ford Capri. It was called the *Mercury* Capri in North America. I found it more attractive than our Ford (Fox Bodied) Mustang.
The Cortina was imported in the 60's, then Ford stopped.
Thank you for the comments.
You're welcome. Lovely looking car. :)
That is a very reasonable price.
Thank you for your comments
I will raise you reasonable price and double it , now show me your hand, i call
My brothers had the mk3 - was painted like the general lee.
Brilliant thank you for sharing!
No rear view mirrors? Love the sound of the clock ticking.
The brochure does not list door or wing mirrors as standard equipment. Chromium plated mirrors with either flat or convex lens are listed in the 'Ford Accessories for your new Cortina.
id buy it right now if id a garage to store it in.
Safe storage is important!
Love it, but my true love is a gold mk2 1600e.
Thank you for sharing.
You should get in touch with Pete C from Cortina city he would love this lot
Hopefully Pete C will see it on here!
I’ve got the exact same car but two door, not as immaculate as this one but it’s a great car.🙂🙂🙂
Great and enjoy your car!
The one that tops this is the Ford Granada mk 1
Thank you for your view
Stop slammin the bleddy doors matey.
Jokes aside.
Lovely cars you lot get old ov
Thank you for your comment!
No wing mirrors, not even on the drivers side? Beautiful car.
Correct, this is a beautiful car.
KGF video routine .... headphones on .... volume up .... fast forward to where he starts it up 😂
Thank you for watching!
My brother had one in black xxxx
Great thank you for sharing!
I much rather the tombstone seats that the cloth square top
Thank you for your comment!
I had a yellow GXL with a black vinyl roof and lots and lots of rust
We would like a yellow version!
