As someone who was self diagnosed as autistic for many years before I was able to get the professional diagnosis, one of the reasons people self ID is because psychologists and psychiatrists don't want to take everyone's insurance. If y'all would have taken my Medicare and Medicaid, I could have gotten the diagnosis in 2012 or 2013.
