Many dogs do not like having to step into a harness. The Freedom Harness slips easily over the dog’s head and the straps go between their front legs and clasps together around the chest. These harnesses also have a front “D-ring” which can help with those dogs that pull. Tellington Touch also makes harnesses that are very effective for pullers. An easy training tip to discourage your dog from pulling is the reverse your direction and say “with me” at the same time. It works to distract when your dog wants to go where they want to go. The best advice for a dog that wants to go after prey is situational awareness; *always* be aware of your surroundings and be prepared to hold your dog back. I have had three Greyhounds with very high prey drive and paying attention is key. Prey-driven Greyhounds are not a dog you can walk and be distracted. Great advice on the flexi leads. You cannot protect your dog if it is 15 feet away from you. You also did not mention that if a Greyhound reaches the end of the extension at a full-speed run one of two things can potentially happen: your shoulder might become dislocated; or (if your dog is wearing a collar) their neck could be broken. They are also against the bylaws in the majority North American locations. And they are dangerous to other dogs and people. Google retractable leash injuries.
I will have to check out those harnesses, I'm always looking for new products to try out! I learned very quickly to be aware of my surroundings after getting a Greyhound. Havent had any problems yet with Zelda, other than the occasional sudden burst of energy when a stray cat jumps out of the bushes in my neighborhood. But I'm always there to hold her tight! And yes, that's exactly why you need a 6 foot leash with Greys, they can get devastating injuries otherwise, especially with their thin frame.
I appreciate that. It's just the essentials in preparation for getting your Greyhound. As for food, I forgot to mention, don't change what they're eating prior to you getting them, at least not initially. Whatever your breeder or adopting organization is feeding them, continue to feed them that and slowly incorporate new food; increasing the percentage of new food over time. This will prevent digestive issues. If you already knew this then you can pretend I never said this lol
I love your videos I'm currently binge watching your videos since I'm getting our second greyhound whose 5 called Kenny in a week and he has never lived in to a house so these videos have helped a lot ,thankyou
Thank you, I am happy to help! Tell Kenny, Zelda and I say hello when he comes home 😁 Feel free to reach out if there is anything in particular you want me to cover in an upcoming video when you're done binge watching! Welcome to our little community here 😊
They make it look so effortless! I love that they instinctually stretch every time they get up from sleeping or resting. It shows that us humans should do the same!
100%! Those plush toys didn't last long when she was a puppy though. The instinct and innate desire to tear it apart and take the insides out proved to be too irresistible for her lol. She grew out of it though! That plush bunny toy I featured in my third video is still fully intact :)
Hey man, can you share more info on the process you had to go through to adopt a puppy from SA? The adoption process is proving more lengthy that I anticipated and I'm starting to wonder if I should just try for a pup
I would say keep all options open. Greys are very difficult to get. Getting Zelda was a very lengthy process as well; a ton of paperwork, several phone calls over a few weeks, photos of the interior of your living space, etc. As tedious as it is, that's what you want from these places. It shows that they really want these dogs to get to a good home. I can do a video on the process that I went through with the animal rescue and answer any questions you may have, just for you Mechalis9!
@@PJBchannel hahaha I chuckled. I video just for michalis9! Actually I've already been through most of these steps, we did a virtual home visit a few weeks ago, I showed them the insides of my cabinets and what was in the trashcan and where I keep my chef's knife and everything. Crate is set up, the raised feeder is in place, I've bought pretty much everything and the longer I wait, the more I shop lol. I'm just being impatient. Almost 5 months now.
@@michalis9 you must have the patience of a saint. Five months would drive me crazy, especially when I've made up my mind that I want a dog lol have they given any reasoning behind the delay? Are you on some sort of wait list? Fingers crossed for you buddy! You'll be a great dog parent, I can tell by our correspondence so far 👌🏻
@@PJBchannel thanks, I appreciate your saying that! I'm on a list with a fairly large group in my area, and have been supposedly front of the line for a month now. The issue is that they dont seem eager to adopt dogs to be only dogs in apartments. I'm suspecting that they won't match me with a dog unless it has spent time in a foster home as an only dog in an apartment. I actually reopened an application with another local group that seem to be more responsive and less critical of apartment living lol. Also checked the San Antonio group that you worked with and they have puppies available! Tempting but I dont know that i could deal with a puppy as a first dog. I will contact them to ask for an adult dog adoption and if they adopt to out of town people - I'm about 4 hours away
@@PJBchannel after a few false starts, finally meeting one tomorrow! Fingers crossed 🤞 Btw, I contacted the group in San Antonio and talked with the lady you mentioned; she was very happy to find out about your videos!
Man, I can’t wait for the day I can take my dog to the dog park with NO aggression issues (bc also the running free is important for any breed). Instead I have to keep her in the pen that’s empty or the field just outside of it (but there’s still a chance she can run into the road- so it’s a constant worry. (I currently do not have a greyhound- for reference ). Mmmmmmm dreaming ❤ of my greyhound ❤
She is so lucky to have you!
Thank you! But I'd have to say I am definitely the lucky one to have her 😁

I love the stretching yoga moves so much. Looks soooo satisfying each time they do it.
