  • What is the origin of Yule, and what is Yule’s connection to winter solstice? This and other questions will be asked and answered in this video. I will show you all my sources and take you with me on the path to understand why Christmas has its roots in paganism.

This is a remarkable documentary leaving no stone unturned. any arguments against this can only come from ignorance or arrogance, or both.

Or as more information is known. Everything can change especially as regard the Norse because we know so painfully little.

Skjalden i am half slavic and half scandinavian. I Love your videos so much! You deserve 1 milion subscribers. I have also started loving Norse Mythology due to my ancestry. Plz do a video about how the two dwarf brothers Fjalar and Galar killed Kvasir and what happened afterwards with Suttung, Baugi and etc... much appreciated😀

I'm curious as to how you would react to the current NASA findings. The way the solar wind Bends into a shape very similar to the sun symbols in the runes

Another reason for the varying dates of the feast maybe an affect of latitude. And if I remember my Latin, they too held a long festival near the winter solstice and it was given to Saturn- the Lord of Time and Harvest.

Revisited this 27/10/2020 (I am in convalescence following a stay in hospital) and it struck me that Sonehenge, Wiltshire England, has also a Winter Solstice alignment with the setting sun, almost the opposite of the Summer alignment celebrated by the modern Druids. We have no way of knowing if the monument was used by the ancestors for either or both of these festivals but I suspect that the moden pagans use the Midsummer as the weather is more agreeable at that time. I will celebrate the coming Winter solstice at home due to my health, and I am starting to make preparations now.

In Old English, it's "geol", similar to the Cornish word "gool", meaning "gathering". If you say it in Old Norse pronounciation of "the gathering" or "inn geol", you'll get Yule, the "annual" gathering.

Gud Hjul o Gott Nytt Aar! Ever since your video I have been going round wishing people a guid "JoleBlot! and explaining the long festive season. Makes far more sense to enjoy a long period of Festivity during the darkest months. Also obviously "JOLLY" comes from the word and getting "BLOTTO" - totally drunk..comes from "JoleBlot". I am now already feasting without the Dictorial 25th of Emperor Constantine's "Sol Invictus" Cult/Christianity Birthday! I feel so much happier now. Thank you! I'm eating Pork for Yuletide! xxx Thanks.

The timing of Nordic Yule seems similar to the way the timing of Easter (Oester) is established. Easter is the Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Vernal Equinox. Similarly the timing of Yule is the first full moon after the first new moon after the winter solstice. It seems the lunar calendar has survived in the Christian tradition for Easter, but not for Christmas.

Yep. The truth is that today in Ukraine ancient Slavic tradition calls local Christmas carols - "koliadky" (in Cyrillic "колядки" ) - them being sung in honor of the god of Winter Sun - Koliada. Some older people directly call Christmas in Ukraine as Koliada, it doesn't even imply any pagan connotations.

Great video, but just wondering, I don’t mean to sound rude or anything... but do you think you’ll be making anymore videos? They’re a really good source, I’ve got Dyslexia so it’s pretty hard to read through mountains upon mountains of stuff (not trying to use it as an excuse though).
If not then that’s fine, you’ve already delivered more than enough, I love rebinging your videos

As a slavic i want to say that word "Kolyada" (Коляда) etymologically means "wheal" or "cyrcle dance"

Counting the year from the winter solistice makes sense. And is reflected in the later christian ways. This in some ways support Jul=Hjul, as the wheel of time making another lap.
