  • This is an old video I made.Its sole purpose was a series I planned on making about the angles/dangers of hillside mowing. Unfortunately I never finished it but have more footage.I tested the limits of this zero turn mower in all directions.
    However do not attempt to mow hillsides if you are inexperienced!
    Just wished I woulda finished the series :(
    Anyway enjoy my funny reaction! Thanks for watching!!

    I got ya man I also mow for a living and I do a lot of water retention ponds in subdevisions that are way beyond what my hustler super a hyper drive is rated for and most people call me crazy but i live for mowing and in the line of work we do we don't get enough credit so I do apologise because it takes a special talent to do what we do.... mad respect for u And all other mowers that go through what we do every day

    I'm in the market for a new mower since I spend more time working on my 35 year old John Deere 316 lawn tractor than I do mowing. I feel guilty about giving up on the 316 because it still has some life in it. While ZTR mowers are in high demand I am leaning toward another heavy duty lawn tractor. I'm concerned about the safety aspects of the ZTR with the back wheels tending to slide on inclines as in this video. I've also read occasions where the ROPS system caught a low limb and the ZTR mower front end came up dangerously high. The mowing speed is not a major concern. This was an excellent video that helped me come to a decision.

    I usually mow down hill instead of going up. I learned that when my dad tried mowing up hill with our John Deere lawn tractor. It flipped but luckily my dad didn't get hurt or anything. After that day with bought a Kubota Z231kh and everytime I mow on a hill, I always go down so I don't make the mistake he made.

      each mower will be different due to the center of gravity so it would be best to use the manual for each mower. imo if you have to ask you should have it up till your confident with how your mower performs/acts. i mean your only saving a minute by not putting it up but if something happens your out for weeks plus rehab ect.
      if your even thinking about doing hills get a stand on or a walk behind, a 36 then 48 is the best size for hills. the 36 will hold and will have limited scalping over steep burms. a 32 will work but wont be as good going horizontal with the hill due to the aspect ratio of width/length.

    Buying a Scag tomorrow. One of my questions was how do they do on a small incline. His response was mow going down hill. ? I laughed and said I have to go up the hill first to mow downhill right. He didn't laugh but I thought his comment was stupid! With a riding mower there is more weight in front to keep it down. This answers my question. No side hilling and less counterweight. Lol

      If you can go up and down the hill and the mower stops from flipping because it bottomed out on the rear end. Its not that bad. I mowed ditches and roadsides for the state, for over 10 years. The hill your on I could mow with a john Deere 5320 "small farm tractor" horizontaly without a thought.

      eXterminator don’t bullshit a camera can’t do justice of a hill without something to show such as you going up that hill we can determine how steep that hill is simply by seeing you ride up it and it’s steep enough to keep you from rolling up it flat

      @EarthSurferUSA 5 років тому +4

      @@patricktaylor7809 I believe that, "with out a thought". I never met anybody who worked for the state who had any skill because they don't think they have the brains to acquire it. I think that is why they work for the state, instead of the free market where you have to think to survive. You work for the state? That is nothing to brag about. It is something to be ashamed of in a free society. You could have done so much better, with out putting the public at risk at their expense. Have you ever heard that is immoral to consume more than you produce? Any communistic nation can provide some state jobs, until they drain the free market of thinking individual dry. Now, who does your union tell you to vote for? The biggest communist running. "Worker",---you accepted that communistic label. It is all you are suppose to be in the land of opportunity. I had better plans.

      He is mowing at an angle. Mow straight up and down keep the front pointed up and you will be fine. Only turn at the bottom of the hill. Some people will say maneuver while on the hill, but that's when you run the risk of sliding. Keep the mower perpendicular to the bottom of the hill. The wheels have more traction that way.

  • @Wheel.Estate
    @Wheel.Estate 2 роки тому

    So what do you do? Mow parallel? I know cub makes zero's that the front wheels are attached to steering to keep the back for pushing, and front for steering so it doesn't slide like normal zero turns.

  • @tortillasarenotbiceps7622
    @tortillasarenotbiceps7622 3 роки тому +1

    I use a Husq zero-turn on some very steep inclines and it is hairy for sure. We use counter-weights on the front of the mower to balance the steeper slopes, but it still doesn't fully suffice. I have to lean forward a lot in order to assure the front wheels stay on the ground. I also have to go very slow in case I hit holes that pop the front end up. It is dangerous and should never be attempted by amateurs. I've been landscaping for 20 years and have a lot of experience.

    I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

      your comment sounds as though you think a ROPS helps to prevent a rollover.It is meant to keep the machine from crushing you when a rollover does occur.Im not saying you shouldnt use a ROPS,but actually that little bit of extra weight sticking up high could actually tip the scales enough just enough to roll ya.My closest call ever was because of a rollbar.I caught a clothes line and before I knew it,me and mower were pointed towards the sky.

Not sure if it applies to all but last time I checked nobody has ever rolled a great dane due to slope incline. Yes theyve stacked them into dams and creeks or off dropoffs due to slipping but never rolled one due to mowing on an incline. notice how it just rests on the tail when the front weels lift?

    I cut hill like that with a exmark lazer z e series with the ropes down but I go up then come back down but I cut slopes when they dry but sometimes I cut them when they wet and I'm 12 years old I popped a wheelie on a exmark before in flat ground but I always be safe
