Ah the Ventura Highway. I was born in Socal in 48 moved to Thousand Oaks & Newbury Park from 63 to 93. Ventura Hiway was a major part of our daily life's. Me and my buddies on Wednesday night would cruise to Van Nuys and cruise the Van Nuys blvd. Had a 63 El Camino with a 327cu in and 350 hp. Pretty fast for a heavy truck. Then got a new 69 Charger. I would race everybody that wanted to race!! Fruit stands down in Camarillo are still going as far as I know.

Brilliance personified... always reminds me of the Vietnam war draft dodgers in Cape Town... Aussies & Americans... Billabong brand - surfboards started in a double garage behind Claridges Hotel in Green Point...the short boards were popular - replaced the awkward long boards...
This song makes me feel that everything in the world is beautiful, the air and grass are sweet, the ocean salty smell permeates the surroundings and the sky is blue as blue. A sense of a Heavenly highway. that’s what this song instills in me
Our last weekend in the United States. Late October, 1965. We were at the movement center at Camp Pendleton, Ca. We stayed out all night, Friday and Saturday night. We hung around Downtown L A and up in Hollywood. And then cruising up and down Ventura Highway late Saturday night. Fun times and beautiful memories. Then on Tuesday afternoon we left for Okinawa. And from Okinawa on to , you guessed it. Vietnam. Lima Co. 3/9 Weapons Platoon. 3Rd. Marine Division, Camp Schwab. Okinawa. Oh and by the way. I am not a Hero. The Marines and other Service members who did make it back home alive are the true Hero,s. Please always remember that. And them. Semper Fi. Oohrah.

This what happens when a segment of people in the population are taught from childhood to hate white people and call of their life's problems due to whites. Its no wonder Black on white violence is wildly out of proportion. Personal responsibility has failed us, Diversity failed us.
I've never been on the Ventura Highway but I've been on the Blue Ridge Parkway countless times. The picture at the beginning of the lyrics (:20) looks strangely like the North Carolina side of the Parkway. Good times and music from my childhood!

I remember as a kid in the mid 1960's driving up the Ventura highway, US 101, through the eucalyptus trees and strawberry fields, and stopping at the fresh fruit stand for a snack. It was a most beautiful highway with the pacific ocean by its side. I can still see it and smell it in my mind. But now it's a multi lane freeway slicing through a maze of shopping centers and malls, and it has changed my perception of this song. For not only is the song now an oldie, but that highway and it's surrounding beauty no longer exists. It's like the extinction of a species.
The fruit stands were everywhere, stuff came right from the local fields or orange groves, beautiful blue skies, it was nature embracing you . The beauty is still there, just a little harder to find
