Every time you said, "I haven't heard the original." all I could think of was, "Yes, you have." Love that HF is bringing out a lot more original music, especially when it's this good.
@@PeterBarber - Other originals I think you'd like are "If I Met You Now" (by Austin Brown' on his channel) and "What's Left of My Heart" (by Tim Foust on Home Free's channel). They're both song writers and have original songs out.
In this last series of concerts HF has been using a looper controlled by Adam. He originally looped his voice to increase the complexity of the drum kit, but they could easily pre-record individual voices or harmony groups for the background that he triggers at the right points. Don't know if that's happening here, just saying it could allow extra voices to be laid into the mix.
Since Tim is from Texas; Austin is from Georgia and Adam Chance from Alabama no matter what they sing, there's gonna be American south accents. (Adam Rupp and Rob are both from Minnesota). Thank you for your insights and analysis. I saw an interview with Tim wherein he talked about encouraging bass singers to keep trying their higher vocal ranges - that it improved their bass to do so.
My favorite part will be when you realize that you haven't heard the original BECAUSE, this is an original. Perfect example of how vast talents they possess.
Hey Peter, so, we saw these guys in October and I was absolutely blown away in general. But especially so when Adam Rupp did a demonstration of his percussion skills with a looping machine, I think they called it. It ended up being about 20 Adams on stage performing at the same time with all the different loop tracks that he made it was absolutely ridiculous and awesome.
Most times when Tim sings in upper registers, Chance does the baseline...on some performances, Tim will also do a baseline even if he sings higher because there is space for it.
Tim can write songs that make us smile so I love your explanation of simple goodness. Your expertise is interesting and entertaining and I wish you the very best with your career and goals. Peace to you as well.
Thanks for your analysis. Another great original song from Home Free's new album. Love when they all take turns in singing a verse. Adam once again blows me away with his fabulous vocal percussion. And how cool do the guys look in their uniforms & shades walking out of the airplane hanger. Reminds me of a mixture of "Top Gun" & "The Right Stuff". Another winner!
LOVE this Home Free original--and that all of the guys get their own chance to shine--and look fabulous--in this cool video❣️🎼🥰🎶♥️ Radio should be blaring this song coast to coast.😍 In these days of so much negativity, Home Free's music lifts my spirits!
This is the original according to other comments. Tim supposedly said that in this first section he did not get a chance to breathe. Enjoy the fullness of your reaction and how you clarify the various Acapella techniques. Glad to be one of your subscribers. BTW, with December 20th/21st quickly approaching would you please react to Home Free's version of "Winter Song". Be sure to listen for Adam Rupp making the whispering sounds of the winter wind. Be well and wishing you a healthy and safe holiday season and wonderful 2023.
Enjoyed your reaction very much as always. Thanks much! As others have said, this is an original that Tim co-wrote. To answer your question about the HF live performances, they use a loop station when necessary and will also sometimes simplify the arrangement a little. When I have seen them, they show the members laying down the loops in the introduction to the song and Adam controls the loop station.
I have yet to hear a song by Home Free that I didn't like, whether cover or original. The video is fantastic. My favorite is and always will be Tim. Thanks for another great reaction, I like your detailed analysis.
Thank you for your awesome reaction to this favorite original song! I love Rupp’s beatboxing! Understand, Might As Well Be Me, Playing with Fire and Stargazer Lilies (all originals) are favorite songs on So Long Dixie album, my album of the year!
I was lucky enough to hear Tim and Friends sing this in a backyard last year, loved it the first time I heard it. As always appreciate your breakdown and commentary.
Peter, this is an original...co-written by Tim Foust and Jeffrey East and a 3rd gentleman I forget the name of. But Peter this is an original...Tim, Austin & Chance are all very good songwriters. This song needs to be on the radio. Their new album, has 12 originals of the 14 tracks...my favorite on the album is Stargazing Lilies written by Austin for his lovely Lady, Miss Amberly.
Oh my, yes! I fell totally in love with Stargazer Lilies before the song was halfway through. That one goes on repeat three or four times when I'm playing the album. Going out today for egg nog (can you believe a major store like Walmart doesn't carry Southern Comfort brand??!!!), and So Long Dixie will be in my ears on my way to the bus stop.
@@CultripFounded will be on a radio station on 11/26 @ 3pm CST on the Refried Home Fries livestream that they are doing at the radio station in California.
I agree that not every song has to "Wow!" you. Songs like this I could listen to over & over...very well done and easily brings me a smile! I've listened to you for long enough now to consistently hear things I never did before yet there is always something new you bring to my attention. I hope you keep sharing your talents! 🎼😊
The whole album is original music! Tim Foust, Jeffrey East, & Patrick Dodge wrote this song. Oh yeah, I have my signed cd LOL. If you decide to cover another drop me a line and I'll tell you who wrote the next song. Most of them are co written with either Tim or Austin. It is a good album.
Missed this one when you released it Peter, the holidays this year were even more nuts than usual. I’m sure the other commenters have filled you in with all of the info about it! As far as multitracking, yes, they do use it, and in concert, they will use a loop station on stage where needed on more complex arrangements. They don’t try to hide that at all, they actually have a whole bit, usually before Try Anything, where they explain it all to the audience, it’s very cool. If you have the opportunity I’d strongly recommend seeing them life, it’s quite an experience!
I am glad you broke the music down. I have always loved c#minor because of some beautiful Chopin piano music. Tim is always my favorite, and Chance has an effortless delivery.
Chopin's Waltz in C# Minor was the bane of my existence when I was a teenager, learning that. I'm a flat-key girl. I don't know why, but sightreading sharps has never been my forte. I do love Home Free, and this song is catchy as all get out.
Love your comments on the musicality of this song, but my favorite part is the lyrics. Have you ever wondered about the subjects they touched on? It is a bop, but the lyrics make you think.
Love the 12 original songs and love that slide up by Austin! Thanks for reacting to the and look forward to seeing you react to the rest of the songs! Love the whole album!!!
I love your musical analysis in this song! I am going to college for music so I love hearing analysis especially when it's Home Free who literally kept me sane during the beginning of the Covid pandemic. so thank you for all of this analysis! :)
Haha you’ve just heard the original. Tim wrote this. I love it. Love your analysis although I really love the lyrics, especially when they say “when a prayer goes up an answer comes down”. So pretty. 🥰

Hey Peter, great analysis! As an aviation nerd and former sailplane pilot the video was very cool, too. I really enjoyed seeing the Staggerwing in the video, it is such a beautiful plane. And I like taildragger Cessnas more than the nosewheel configuration. They totally had me with the video alone. And the song was great, too. Too bad my eyes went too bad to be able to continue flying.. When I saw the tumbnail I was thinking Top Gun, too. We watched that movie at least once a year on our small airfield. And I havn't seen the new one either. For some music that is enjoyable to listen to and has potential to do deep dives on the arrangement I suggest you consider some Ayreon. It is a Prog-Rock/Metal project of dutch producer/composer Arjen Anthony Lucassen. He does concept albums where every album tells a story in the bigger Ayreon Universe. He has a lot of great vocalists and combines a lot of genres in his music. It is basically Rock-Opera or Musical Theater, where every vocalist has one character in the story. A usual song to look at is "The Day That The World Breaks Down" from the 2017 album The Source (ua-cam.com/video/oFuMKdrzPqU/v-deo.html). It is the first song of the album and features all 11 singers and introduces their characters. The video has pop-up comments from Arjen giving background infos on the production and story. It would be really interesting to see your analysis and/or reaction to it. Oh, and I just realized that I wasn't subsrcibed yet *clicks on subscribe button*
Love hearing you vocalizing in harmony, lol, you sound REAL good as country boy....oh yeah! Come on down and get your own country drawal. This is a great song and can't wait to hear the rest of the album. You are so much fun and it's clear you have grown A LOT in vocal range and projection of same. So proud of you, Peter!
My favourite part is Tims lead part in this. I tend to sing the songs with them and it took me a few times to plan my breathing correctly for the really wordy part, so I look forward to doing that
As expected: Amazing!!!! Love this original. Great that everyone has a solo in a part of the song. Here too you can hear so well how important the harmonies and backgrounds vocals/sound is in a song. And of course the deep bass and inhuman vocal percussion. Only there is one problem. It's too short! Wearing awesome suits in a video simple, but so cool and good. It's already in my favorite playlist among so many other songs from Home Free!!
Yes, they usually do multitracking with Tim doing the bass for their recorded songs. Live versions are arranged a little differently with Adam doing more bass & sometimes they will use a looper station live for any constant repetitive sounds, like do do do's or the drum beat so Adam can do a harmonica solo, etc. For an example Man of Constant Sorrow they used a looper live for the ambient sounds. They debated for a long time about using a looper station but Adam won the debate. They haven't called themselves an a cappella band for many years, probably because of this. They call themselves an "all vocal band". Hope this helped. Thanks for the video!
I saw them live a couple months ago and they do openly use live looping/sampling. Adam Rupp will record snippets before they start the full song and then add/remove them as needed. P.S. This IS the original! It was written by Tim Foust, Jeffrey East, & Patrick Dodge. There are only two covers on the So Long Dixie album.
Also, when we were at the concert, they did say that their newest album which is released a couple weeks ago was almost all original so this probably is the original likes on the other common sense. Not 100% sure but it seems likely.
Home Free does use layering for their studio albums, simply because it's what studio recordings is for. All bands do it, and they consider themselves a band rather than a group, because they use their voices as instruments in a band like way. They usually do a somewhat "simpler" arrangement live because that's what bands do live, they don't lose their sound live, due to it live, though. 😁
they double layer tim a whole lot, like on this song. flowers on the wall, castle on the hill, love train, can't stop the feeling, american pie, folsom prison blues, ain't goin down, what's left of my heart, and possibly down to the honkytonk i believe are all double layered during the portions where tim sings lead in studio, and those are just the ones i can think of off the top of my head. he has this like. idk how to describe it but his vocal cords catch the air in such a way that gives them a kind of rattly overtone pattern that adam chance doesnt have because his style is a lot breathier and relaxed and sometimes its easy to tell when they don't switch off (which they seem to not switch off in the studio more than they do actually, i would wager because it'd be easier to just record one of them singing the bass loops and breakdowns than have both of them record the same thing just to make it sound virtually the same)
I'm loving your unrushed full-on Rick Beato-ing of this Home Free original *bop* :) It's *such* a well-crafted pop song with Home Free's signature #Wholesome feel. Wish we had more of this kind of thing on the radio & thru mainstream culture. You ask for my favourite part of this, so for me: Toward the end of Chance's solo here where he starts to climb up a little going into a chorus with full cord closure he sounds great, & I'd like to hear more of him doing so. His breathy lower parts in other songs are very soothing, & I love those too, but I've a feeling he can also do something special leaning some energy into things. Having said that, Austin's 3-stage ascending belt into the final chorus is an absolute undeniable *weapon* which should be pushing this onto nationwide radio.
Great analysis Peter. Loved it. Great to hear you're coming along with the belting, another feather in your cap. Dorothy x ( 77 year old Grandma North East England )

Oh my god I love your analysis on this and this is an original. I also love your voice still great work Peter keep it up can’t wait for the next video from Home Free.
Great analysis as always! Love whenever you return to the big 3 acappella groups. I also like your chord progression breakdowns, I find that very interesting. My favorite part of this might be Chance’s solo, I love his voice too.
Would like to watch your reactions to Tim Foust and Austin Brown individual videos please! How about starting with Tim's IN MY ROOM? Austin's TEARS IN HEAVEN? Love all of your reactions!!
I'm surprised you've never reacted to FORESTELLA, the best crossover vocal group ever. Individually exceptionally beautiful voices and vocal ranges (high and low pitches), together a musical delight in perfection. Technically highly qualified, they create most incredible sounds and harmonies in various genres and styles. A musical treat that you shouldn't miss anymore. For start, I recommend their version of "Bohemian Rhapsody."
Don’t underestimate Chance. He’s a baritone with a huge range and can go almost as low as Tim when needed.
Every time you said, "I haven't heard the original." all I could think of was, "Yes, you have." Love that HF is bringing out a lot more original music, especially when it's this good.

They have a couple of other new videos from their new original music album that you should check out. Thanks for the reaction.
Coming soon! Waiting for copyright to clear so I can post the video without being blurred.
@@PeterBarber Oh yes, the eternal copyright problem, but thanks for your info, I'm really excited.
What did you think of the lyrics? You only commented on the musicality. The guys put out a lot of originals in this album.
