An excellent film that goes to unexpected places in its exploration of nuclear war and remains shocking in the latter half. What's really appalling is how relevant it remains - probably more so.

I've just watched Threads again (the BBC have it on the iPlayer for its 40th anniversary) and it still packs a punch - it's hard to watch, especially if you have seen it before because you know how it ends. The scenes during and after the bombs are especially tough, shocking, terrifying.

An excellent summary and I entirely agree with the existing 4 top level comments.
I swa Threads when it was originally on TV in the 1980s and rewatched last month. It's ******* horiffic and is an absolute must watch for anyone thinking of joining the military or going into politics.
If you have children then get a copy of the film When The Wind Blows by the bloke that made The Snowman

What I find I find the most scariest part about Threads, is that not only has something like this actually happened with the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, that caused the end of world war 2. But also something like this could happen again if we’re not careful with such power with nuclear related events such as, Chernobyl in 1986 and the Fukushima incident in 2011. Threads is definitely one of the greatest films of all time, with it’s message of what the horrors of nuclear weapons and nuclear war can do to our civilisation. It may not be the film that many people want to see, but it’s the type of film that people, especially world leaders need to see.
