I don’t play piano, but I’ve been learning clarinet for the last year and this video (or actually this channel) has given me an understanding of improvisation I never thought was possible. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in sharing your immense knowledge, Mr Hewitt.
Hi MAESTRO. What a thrill. Thank you very much. You are very inspirational and full of motivation. The way how you explain the standard " NOW´S THE TIME " transparent and understandable. My deepest adoration. Stay strong and healthy in this difficult times. Never forget you are very special. Best regards Peter. GREETINGS FROM SPAIN
I'm new to your channel as of two weeks ago. I generally don't comment on youtube videos; this may be the first. To say the least, I'm thrilled with the abundant resources you've provided, including your two volume book. I took piano lessons as a kid beginning at five, but have never encountered this level of improvisation instruction. Years ago, I stood over the shoulder of my father-in-law, an damn good musician, as he rattled through chords (in particular an open voicing chromatic descending seventh that he called the Count Basie ending!), and could only pick up on a few. He couldn't really explain what he was doing. You have combined the theory with the music with the narrative to help me understand. Now in my retirement, I think I am actually going to get this! Thank you so much, Kent.
Kent, thank you very mutch for all your videos, tutorials and inspiration!!! I am a classical music pianist that want to learn jazz and your resources are helping me greatly to learn it in the right way (theory, practice, inpiration and creativity!!!). You are a great musician, a great teacher and a veryx nice and generous person!!! Thank you!!!! Chris
Thank you for taking your time to share your insights! Your videos really cut the chase and are concise and easy to follow. I can't have enough of this!!
Thanks again Kent! Your videos and resources help to guide me very much in my playing. This lesson will definitely help with my improvisation. Keep it up!
+Andile Meshack Sincere thanks for your kind words! This keeps me going. Please check here and take advantage of my video categories and free music downloads: ua-cam.com/channels/dmjw5sm9Kn83TB_rA_QBCw.htmlplaylists
Thank you for your lessons. They really help out. As a visual learner, I really appreciate the visuals and the way you describe things. :). I'm so greatful for people like you who take time to record and teach what they know. If I could request a lesson, can you do one discussing different styles of jazz? With focus on the rhythms per style. Thank you so much!
Do I detect a new fan??! I didn't really think teaching was my forte, but maybe it is. I taught at a few universities for awhile but didn't make it a career...so thanks to YT... I now can teach worldwide. Thanks!
My brother used to open his gigs with this number but can you believe I didn’t know what it was called.! Great lesson - yet again. Thank you Kent. Going to email you.😊
Hi Corinne,,,here I am again trying to catch up on all the comments. You know that this venture is a full-time job. (more or less). I don't really have to answer the comments, but I feel that it's important to do so. I always cherish hearing from you, my friend.
Thank you for all your tutorials! I've learn a lot as a classical pianist new to jazz. I'd like to ask if you could make a video showing different blues licks and explain the style in general?
Hi, thanks! I'll keep that in mind. I do have a blues category that may have covered some of that. Go to my channel page and click on playlist and then the category title to see the list. I'll make a note of your request.
love the lessons,,I have some experience but I'm not motivated to practice until I bump into your lessons,, next week I will be ordering your book,,,I watch your videos all day,,,could you please do skylark as a tutorial,,,thank you .....
+Jose Rodriguez Jose, how did I miss your kind comment. I appreciate it very much. I will put Skylark on my TO-DO list, but please don't hesitate to remind me (that is an effective technique!). Thanks!
already did :) I would love it if you could make a tutorial on yardbird suite by charlie parker! and in general I just really like your tutorial on bebop tunes.
My book would be very helpful because it starts at the beginning with jazz theory, and progresses step-wise. Also start with my easiest videos and also the theory videos before watching the more advanced ones. You can find the categories here: ua-cam.com/channels/dmjw5sm9Kn83TB_rA_QBCw.htmlplaylists
