Excellent coverage of REAL rallying... As well as the motivation issue with Walter Rohrl, there was also a political/ethical issue, as He doesn't smoke, & avoided promoting Rothmans (other than actual driving); this probably hastened his departure from the Rothmans/Opel team; He went on to drive for Martini Lancia in 1983.
thats why i love em...much more involved with night stages, and the bad weather..now they shut the stages down with the slightest sniff of bad weather..
Used to take a week off work with a buddy of mine, sleep in the car and do 1200 miles & follow the network q rac in the 90's in the Mcrae years up and down the whole country in November. It was amazing got some great memories,a far cry from what they've done to it today ,ruined it! We did see Colin win though!
They sent Walter Röhrl home by being afraid he was not motivated enough after winning the world champtionship. They probably did't know him very well. D:
Wonderful upload ! This is ralling 😎😎😎 At the beginning a large presentation of every team. Why not also for Lancia? 037 was tecnically superior at that time, ignition turbo volumetric... i think because it was from italy ... it isn't? 🤔🤔🤔
Who is the journalist interviewing the drivers off camera? I have never gotten his name and he is very professional and with an excellent understanding of rallying.
in one of my other videos, i have the best driving you have ever seen in a sunbeam, think it was toiveonen, down a hill, sideways left, sideways right coming to a left hander over a bridge, he flicks it in, and is sideways with the front bumper just touching the left wall, and rear bumper skimming the right wall, whilst on oppo in a straight line for the full length of the bridge....magical..
My fellow countrymen: Mikkola, Alen, Vatanen. The best of the best. Disclaimer: Brooks and Gaby performed well also. Never liked swedes..Eklund was somehow sympathetic, though. 😁
Its because of eco' warriors sending in thousands upon thousands of letters to the government telling them that the British countryside is being ruined by such rally cars, that the event is only held in Wales now! WANKERS lot of them. I loved to watch the Lombard RAC going through Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire & Chatsworth in Derbyshire, just a distant memory now.
ian8354 Hopefully things are going to change again, with changes in legislation that is coming, which will allow for local councils to apply for closing the roads, to allow local rallying and racing again!it should be happening for next year..
+Mozzo lets give them 400 bhp, thinner tyres, no electronic abs, ebs,tc ect..normally aspirated rear wheel drive...then the fun would start again...you watch rallying now, loeb is so efficient, the steering wheel barely moves...mind blowingly fast...but just a tad boring..
+sidewayssam...Though Loeb is older now, during his prime younger years he'd have handled a Group B car no problem...... boy would THAT be fun to watch! Lets not forget he cut his teeth during 'wild days' as a teenage rebel "baiting" French police in their patrol cars, none of whom could catch him. His handling skills are sheer poetry in motion.
4 wd Audies beating all the two wheel drive cars...feckin amazing. Then ofcourse when Peugoet and Lanci brought out their 4 wd cars Audi kept losing and then fecked off. They've milked this period for decades and really set them up for who they are now always masters of managing the regulations to their advantage...clever lads and lasses but a little cynical.
I fail to see what is cynical about it. Where are Ford and Subaru today eh? After all they too dominated the rally scene in days past. Nothing remains the same for ever.

The RAC back then was way better than today's dull WRC events...

15:50 - 16:18, Hannu Mikolla,the first gentleman of rallying,polished,professional and immensly talented.
wish it was possible to get some dvd's of the golden era of rallying - pre 4x4's - this is good tho, thanks

The rally great brittain in wales today is not a true RAC rally...

***** Here Here! I'm with you 100% on this, modern day rally cars are reaching the limit with the Formula 1 wankers!!!
