  • When we first got to South Padre Island, we wouldn't have known that it was supposed to be a (sub) Tropical Vacation! It was windy wet and cold!
Eventually it warmed up and we were able to get to the beach, make some sand castles and play in the water a little.
We also got to see all sorts of neat wildlife from various herons to pelicans to crabs.
It was really fun spending some time building sand castles and just learning about how to work with sand and build something that could maintain a nice edge. Our attempts later in the trip were much more successful, which I think means that we learned a lot :)
Thanks for checking out our first installment of our vacation to South Padre Island! We hope you enjoy it!

Wow! Small world! As you know, I live in Hot Springs, MT. When I was in the oil business I lived in Corpus Christi, TX. I often picnicked at Padre Island. I taught my son how to dive when he was 12 years old. I would drive to the beach on Padre Island and he would drive from there to the inlet at Port Mansfield. He is 19 now. We were just talking about it the other day.
