    To Jerry : When I was young (aged 14/15 years old - 1957/8) I played rhythm guitar with one mandolin band. I used same bass note technich as Jerry. It's happy to remember me this period. Later, I was so bad in "rhythm playing with me guitar", I purchade one Gibson (1966) and since I played only lead guitar (and trombone, tenor banjo, tuba, piano, dobro, string bass) professionnaly (very bad...but professionnaly).God bless you all.

      Thanks for taking a listen. Yes, that bass technique was used a lot in those early string bands. It serves many musical purposes in that setting. That style also became part of western swing music, as that style picked up many cues from the early New Orleans songs and music.
