This is wonderful car... i hv been using it for past 2 years... in bad roads, in water, rains, and humps.... it took all & still working fine without a single issue
The outlandish designs is what will prevent people from going with these electric cars. How hard is it to design one that looks like a regular car? This is really what Tesla got right more than anything else.
Agreed, Mahindra made E-Varito which is Ugly but still looks like a regular car, Yet they willingly make their cars ugly or impractical so that their friends can keep selling fuel. Tesla modle x and Chevrolet volt, bmw i3, nissan leaf are a few examples of cars which are honest.
With such a small size it costs a bomb in India, if they make say one like Honda city, I guess it will cost around 25lakhs in India.. way too expensive, where as tesla is now coming up with cars which are comparable in size and price to normal one.. thats what we need, else no one is gonna buy these for 6-9laksh..
Thank DC Design (Dilip Chabaria). Why would Mahindra hire a former car body modifier for their new EV? Although slightly improved since last version, still looks ugly in design.
Prasad Naik But I feel this car looks good and a bit futuristic too! And almost all the electric cars standout in design like this one, so for me electric cars are well designed
Devansh Vithlani But you are a minority who likes an electric car which does not look like a normal car. Majority want electric cars to look like luxury cars.. tats what tesla did in US.
Mahindra is true son of India doing their best for country's next generations than others. This car is enough for most rural less populated areas. Govt should give incentives and discount to citizens.
People comparing this with tesla need to chill the fuck out. This car is made by keeping the Indian buyers and Indian conditions in mind. A car like tesla would be unaffordable for the masses and would cost like 40-50 lakh for the cheapest model. India doesn't have the kind of infrastructure to run cars like tesla.I know the design could have been more appealing but they have to consider many factors like size and weight for optimum utilization of the battery power.
Get the specs right bro. It ain't really hard for the manufacturers to make an electric car which looks like a conventional sedan / hatchback. And cheapest Tesla costs around 20 lacs that too due to most of it being manufactured in the US. I am sure localization would reduce the cost even more.
Used it for 6 weeks 1.hard suspension 2 uncomfortable seat 3 three visits to work shop, twice for showing lower range at 100%charge Once for faulty central locking
they wanted to build a city commuter not a SUV... electric SUV will cost a lot more as more weight need more powerful motor and bigger battery... bigger battery won't come cheap because battery is the most expensive part of EVs
Reva motors originally designed and started production of this car years back and that was an achievement as well as bold and forward looking decision. We expected Mahindra to do much better job than what they have done so far. Battery technology has leaped forward in last 3 years and costs have been steady or lower for higher powered battery packs. It should be available with multiple battery capacity options. Design can definitely improve without much change in price, and that should make it more attractive for buyers. Also the charging station is additional cost while the car is still expensive compared to petrol small cars on offer. City driving is usually at speeds less than 80kmph, so if the design, range, price and charging issue is addresed India should see more of these on roads.
Nice video! Does justice to the car. We've been driving an e2o for about 3 years now and are loving the experience. We agree about the "rough around the edges" part. We're happy that some major pain points have been addressed in this version. Namely 4 doors, boot space, range, and quick charging. However cabin noise, ac noise, suspension, handling, and better knobs, and handles would definitely be a real charmer. We also have a problem with our infotainment system and GPS not being up to par with even entry level tablets and phones... I'm not sure how exactly the android system is in this version. Does it work with iOS? Thanks for the review, videos, & comments! :-)
What is with those seats ...looks like a botched job ...when is Mahindra gonna learn about quality and better design.....?? Shame Mahindra products have so much potential but it's design language and shoddy craftsmanship is a HUGE letdown !!! They
dude your getting what you pay for, thats why the cars in mahindra are really cost effecient, they use their budget with full potential hence your getting a really amazing car for the fraction of the price
hemanth kumar That isn't the point . You can be frugal yet be creative ...Mahindra doesn't exactly have esthetics high on their agenda that's why all their cars are not pleasing to the eye - no matter how tough and reliable they are under the skin .. I am not disagreeing this is not a good car - all I am saying is Mahindra could make it a bit more pleasing to the eye . Tata Nano electric version ( showcased in Geneva) is a classic example of desire, design, creativity and frugality all put together in a brilliant package .. Admittedly it is more expensive
A fellow EV owner, a medical doctor came up with an interesting observation. Basically just like Gordon Moore, he noticed a trend in EV range increase... It's basically 20 km per new model release. We call it Dr. Ajeenkya's Law. at this rate we'll need 9 more releases to cross 300 km. :-D ( ( 300 - 140 ) / 20 = 8) ;-)
Or they should allow a fuel based generator which can convert fuel to electricity to charge and move car when needed for long trips and emergency purpose
Atleast, the window line could have been a straight line. I seriously don't know what stops Mahindra from drawing straight lines while designing a car! Duh!!
Any news about charging point networks or infrastructure? Who should be doing this, power companies or EV companies? Would these cars with their batteries and charging points with their batteries contribute greatly to a smart and clean grid (now that net metering is also in place)? Also the renewable sources of power don't always deliver power when you need it... Maybe these batteries could stabilize the grid and provide stored power when needed?
Indian Car manufactures need to initially give Electric versions of their current Car models but with range at least in between 200 to 300 km with an Option to have better variants with a Range above 300Km. 100 to 200 km range is too less especially when the technology for better range cars are already available. India needs to go electric to save the huge Oil import Bill from Gulf Nations due to which we can utilise our resources of other projects like Nuclear Energy, Infrastructure, Education, Health etc.
If traditional car companies don't understand that there is enough room to sell EV at high end then wait till 2018. Tesla will suddenly sell more car then Mahindra sold till date. Tesla did exactly same in US. Their first car was roadster, then Model S and now they are preparing to produce Model 3. Reducing cost step by step. Rich people can put charger at home. They don't live in apartments like us where charging EV is difficult. And they can easily sell their old car to buy new. With big car, companies can give long range which is difficult for small car. It is expected Tesla Model 3 will give 350-400km range which is similar to our petrol car.
Tesla not coming in India. They said no because of high taxes in India. And cheapest Tesla car costs 25lakhs in US which very less indian people will be able to afford. ( In India 30+ due to addition of taxes).
Besides all drawbacks these cars are good enough to meet your daily commuting needs. Of course these companies are improving the driving experiences and will soon capture 90 percent of the market in near future. We all are seeing the environmental changes around us, hence deployment of these cars on the earth will help contribute mitigate one of the major factors of climate change.
For starters India really needs to step up on electric car design. This car is still very ugly.. It may seem more practical but it truly isn't yet..we need some good low end cheap hybrids before we can shift to complete battery power..
I agree with you that this car is still very ugly. But FYI hybrids are much more complex than 100% Electric. 100% Electric has many benefits over Hybrids. There are few moving parts, no transmission (gears), simple drive-train, zero maintenance, and much more durable. 100% Electric have 100% torque at any time, making them actually faster and speedier than fossil fuel cars and hybrids. Hybrids needs complex machinery and electronics to work well. Only Toyota has mastered hybrid tech and that is why they deliberately ignore 100% Electric which is far more superior in simplicity and technology. 100% Electric is the way to go but Mahindra has done a poor job at this. They should have at least adopted an attractive design. Even Tata Nano looks better than this.

I am trying to like the car very much being an EV enthusiast .But the design is very poor. Indian companies have to do much better in terms of design of their product else foreign companies will always have a higher market share as they do now. We Indians really need to appreciate and be loyal to the Indian Brands maybe sue em to make better products. If you have been abroad they support their home grown products more than foreign brands.I am not saying competition shouldn't be their as long as Indian Companies are topping the charts at least in India. Tesla is an awesome car abroad but in India F U TESLA I will buy a shitty car like this but not TESLA. To all my fellow Indians advocating foreign brands ,I hope you turn to Indian brands soon.

There is no mention of charging stations and their availability or whether the fast charging is meant for a commercial charging spot or whether it is an option for charging at home. What is the most questioned aspect of an electric car? it is the ease of charging - something i guessed an Indian video would not address adequately. Jai Hind!
well its a nice step forward in sence of design and practicality but just admit it its a long way to go because it is still a very un usual. looking car and do not please to eye in comparison to other ev cars like nishan leaf or reno zoe but as these cars are not present in INDIA it certainly make e2o the only present car for the peoples who r realy willing to buy one ev. But just flip on the other side e2o is not available in the most of the dealership almost in 95 % of them and so it is not accessable to most of the audience for at least a test ride if not for sale, and that said service would be a biggest issue. 2nd thing is that after certain time period like 4 to 5 years the battery pack looses its efficency and drops in term of perform and range as the time gose, and as the reports say, that time is 5 years when the car start its urge to change the battery pack. which cost almost half of the car price as we all know. almost 3.5 to 4 laks just suppose it lesser some were about 3 laks in one shot which is quite a big amount. so i came up with an equation 9.5 lak cost of car, if a person runs some thing like 40 to 50 km in a day it will cost 70 paisa or 0.70 rs as said by the m&m engeniers. it will take 0.70 × 40 = 28 rs per day 28 × 25 = 700 pre month 700 × 12 = 1400 pr year for 5 years is 7000 which is very low on cost. so we can consider it almost the carges for replacing the battery which we considered 3 laks and it will be redy to go for next 4 to 5 years total of 9 to 10 year. total cost 12.5 to 13 laks plus ur damages and other ment. in 9 to 10 year for city ride ONLY. that says u will be restected to ride your car in city because we dont have any such infrastructure like charging station in NH or in SH. and when we compare it to desel. of the same category of price let us compare it with maruti swift in terms of only city and total cost in 9 to 10 years swift costs around 8.5 lack on road and return an avg of 20 kmpl which is 3 rs pr km so 3 × 40 = 120 rs/day 120 × 25 = 3000 rs/month 3000 × 12 = 36000 rs/year for 1st 5 year it will be 36000 × 5 = 180000 and almost 4500rs per year as services charge (including oil and other stuffs) almost 20000 in 5 years total of 200000 in 5 year. and after that with paying 50 thousand to 1 lak u can overhoil ur car and engen will will give it another 4 to 5 years life and again for that next 5 year u will pay 200000 for fuel which take it to a total of 8.5 lack + 2 + 2 + 1 = 13.5 an avg of 13.5 to 14 lak in 10 year with the advantage of better engin and go any where properties That said if there is any option of replacing older battery packs with new one in relatevely low cost between 50 thousand to 1 lk + proper availability of parts and service in all the m&m show rooms. and with cheper fast charging option or fast charging as standard then it CAN be the MOST APPROPRIATE ALTERNATIVE TO OTHER PETROL OR DIESEL VEHICLE FOR DAILY CITY TRANSPORT AND DAILY USE and it can be done. m&m just need to inetiate the moment most of the peoples are willing to buy an ev . thank u.
Mahindra never focuses on design, how hard it is to design a good looking car!! If it's that hard just copy other super cars and make a smaller copy could have had a hit ...
Learn something from Tesla. There is a wonderful opportunity for the electric car makers in the market, especially hatch backs. Just imagine electric version of swift or vw polo at around 10-12 lakhs. I bet people will be queing up.
Not comparing, but I drive a Tesla, so trust me AC is way noisier than the car itself. As far as acceleration is concerned, this is a city car, you won't be able to drive faster bcoz of so much traffic. Give Mahindra some credit, at least they came out with an electric car for India.
This is wonderful car... i hv been using it for past 2 years... in bad roads, in water, rains, and humps.... it took all & still working fine without a single issue
Whats the onroad price
km per charge??

In indian traffic conditions people's manners tesla doesnt work out it would be a flop here😂

Once for faulty central locking
Thanks you changed my mind for buying this car
india need more electronic cars like mahindra e2o plus
Ninama Pooja Actually all the cars we have around are electronic. This is an electric car. Please dont breed :/
they shld make kuv100 electric variant...instead of this cartoonish car
its a smartcar.. dont be foolish
they wanted to build a city commuter not a SUV... electric SUV will cost a lot more as more weight need more powerful motor and bigger battery... bigger battery won't come cheap because battery is the most expensive part of EVs
The KUV is cartoonishly ugly too.
Many cannot afford that one. This is best for village use.
kuv100 is cartoon itself

Raphae Halim how much in USD for the most high end version
Raphae Halim They say we need to charge it once in 3 days even if not used.. How much electricity does it consume in such cases?

We need at least 50km per year improvement till it reaches 400km
Or they should allow a fuel based generator which can convert fuel to electricity to charge and move car when needed for long trips and emergency purpose
They had a chance to implement a completely new design I think they missed the opportunity. I wish the hood was a tad bit longer and raised up.
Atleast, the window line could have been a straight line. I seriously don't know what stops Mahindra from drawing straight lines while designing a car! Duh!!
sanjeev N the TUV has way too many straight lines... See it looks like a box. Although I like it.

I guess the design is a big problem.
they should improve it

It will cost 20 lakhs then.. Li-Ion batteries ain't cheap
Yes posible he
10/12 lak me
They use 30 use 30kw motor that's why battery backup low
I really think India and Europe will have the best electric cars

licence is important for driving e20 plus plz tell sir
are there airbags?
So what's the chances it tips over on sharp turns ?
Isn't The old Mahendra e2o Is Still Available for sale?
Does it has ac or not
Just when you think M&M can't do any worse in terms of designing their cars, they come up with shit like these. Look at that god-awful front grille and side profile! Never change Mahindra.
SMART CITY CAR NEEDS ALL THIS
What are Service type at regular intervals or once in 10k
yearly once is enough for most EVs
How much is price?
Is there driver's seat adjustable? (Rise up n lower). It's the driver's seat comfortable for 6'4" person?
Can it be used as 5 seater like other 4seater cars?
On road price?
I just love smallelectric cars
Atleast convert xuv500 into electric because it is the only good looking car in their lineup
Rakesh Madishetti 👍true, if mahindra does this premium pricing I'll be justified, even if we look at tesla they came up with sports car roadsterand Sadan tesla model s to make product more desirable.
electric XUV 500 I'll be more desirable car than E2o.
is this car can charge with a electrical generator
Why not an hybrid one?
wats the price of e2o

The gaps between body panels ! XD

I think Autocar should advice Mahindra to put some small petrol engine in the car to make it more practical
Make kuv 100 electric version
Mahindra is best ♥
what will be mileage per single change for Mahindra e2o in a congested city like kolkata where one has to press break every minute?
what kind of auto rikshaw is this?
kolkata price...?
How much distance it covers in one full charge and what is its top speed?
Around 100kms and 90kmhr top speed.
for one full charge how much unit electricity needed???
7-8 units

can we charge the car's battery at home...????
Plz Mahindra, raise the power/range and get rid of the front grill.
Also, work on electric bikes, they make more sense in India.
Air conditioning on a battery powered car of this size !!!!!..... that's impressive .....what's the kilometre range with AC on ?
Well done India 👍
They should increase the range for Intercity commutes and also charging should be quicker around 1/2hour...And yes please work ur designers
whats the price
there must be dual battery ...n can be charged @home
so much is this car in US Dollars?
This is a neat little car. Anyone know how much it is?
2 seater electric cars are required for India now
what's the cost in US Dollar?
around $14k
May be they can add a range extender like the BMW did with their i3. It won't be easy but they can at least try.
Bring this car in the Philippines.
price ....
Does this car have amt
Issue is only range 😭

Good car but need more range and more car like design
I would buy swift rather and put extra money In the bank and give me petrol fule difference of Electric Per km Cost
That mahindra front grill is the biggest let down.. doesnt go with this small car..
EV right way toward.. Keep pushing it further.....

well its a nice step forward in sence of design and practicality but just admit it its a long way to go because it is still a very un usual. looking car and do not please to eye in comparison to other ev cars like nishan leaf or reno zoe but as these cars are not present in INDIA it certainly make e2o the only present car for the peoples who r realy willing to buy one ev.
But just flip on the other side e2o is not available in the most of the dealership almost in 95 % of them and so it is not accessable to most of the audience for at least a test ride if not for sale, and that said service would be a biggest issue.
2nd thing is that after certain time period like 4 to 5 years the battery pack looses its efficency and drops in term of perform and range as the time gose, and as the reports say, that time is 5 years when the car start its urge to change the battery pack. which cost almost half of the car price as we all know. almost 3.5 to 4 laks
just suppose it lesser some were about 3 laks in one shot which is quite a big amount. so i came up with an equation
9.5 lak cost of car,
if a person runs some thing like 40 to 50 km in a day it will cost 70 paisa or 0.70 rs as said by the m&m engeniers.
it will take
0.70 × 40 = 28 rs per day
28 × 25 = 700 pre month
700 × 12 = 1400 pr year
for 5 years is 7000 which is very low on cost.
so we can consider it almost the carges for replacing the battery which we considered 3 laks and it will be redy to go for next 4 to 5 years total of 9 to 10 year.
total cost 12.5 to 13 laks plus ur damages and other ment. in 9 to 10 year for city ride ONLY.
that says u will be restected to ride your car in city because we dont have any such infrastructure like charging station in NH or in SH.
and when we compare it to desel. of the same category of price let us compare it with maruti swift in terms of only city and total cost in 9 to 10 years
swift costs around 8.5 lack on road and return an avg of 20 kmpl which is 3 rs pr km
so
3 × 40 = 120 rs/day
120 × 25 = 3000 rs/month
3000 × 12 = 36000 rs/year
for 1st 5 year it will be
36000 × 5 = 180000
and almost 4500rs per year as services charge (including oil and other stuffs)
almost 20000 in 5 years
total of 200000 in 5 year.
and after that with paying 50 thousand to 1 lak u can overhoil ur car and engen will will give it another 4 to 5 years life
and again for that next 5 year u will pay 200000 for fuel
which take it to a total of
8.5 lack + 2 + 2 + 1 = 13.5
an avg of 13.5 to 14 lak in 10 year
with the advantage of better engin and go any where properties
That said if there is any option of replacing older battery packs with new one in relatevely low cost between 50 thousand to 1 lk + proper availability of parts and service in all the m&m show rooms. and with cheper fast charging option or fast charging as standard then it CAN be the MOST APPROPRIATE ALTERNATIVE TO OTHER PETROL OR DIESEL VEHICLE FOR DAILY CITY TRANSPORT AND DAILY USE
and it can be done. m&m just need to inetiate the moment most of the peoples are willing to buy an ev .
thank u.
Abhinav Gupta 700×12 is not 1400
700×12=8400/-
So 5 year cost is 42000/- and not 7000/-
I'd like to see this vehicle exported.
This car can really be the Future of CABS
Mahindra never focuses on design, how hard it is to design a good looking car!! If it's that hard just copy other super cars and make a smaller copy could have had a hit ...
Mr. Bean car😂
Learn something from Tesla. There is a wonderful opportunity for the electric car makers in the market, especially hatch backs. Just imagine electric version of swift or vw polo at around 10-12 lakhs. I bet people will be queing up.
they will improve it for sure. remember Tesla's roadster?
Not comparing, but I drive a Tesla, so trust me AC is way noisier than the car itself. As far as acceleration is concerned, this is a city car, you won't be able to drive faster bcoz of so much traffic. Give Mahindra some credit, at least they came out with an electric car for India.
