The Focusmotor is only for the 460 and 220. So it is not the fault of the Gimbal. It is currently on sale for 150€ on Amazon. I think for this price it is amazing. But not for the 600+ on the Manfrotto site.
Very informative! I had mine for 2 days. Until started having issues with the handle disconnecting intermittently 2ft away from the unit and had to return it too.
There's two focus modes. I think what I did was press and hold the button next to the wheel to generally switch between, pan, tilt focus, and then click once to access variations for each mode. One of them operated my camera's focus for an electronic lens, the other focus mode is clearly for something else. But I agree The thing is not nearly documented well enough. My guess was that the front ports were for something like focus motors. I got your sure that they're not, but I do at least have hesitation because you didn't mention both focus modes it has
Yo! I have this gimbal, I have no chance of returning it so I have to make due. The only problem I have is I cannot get it to function upside down the way you have it pictured. It's like I reach the limit of the gyro, it won't spin freely after a certain point. How were you able to do it?
Hmm you know what is weird, on the Manfrotto site they claim 230° Tilting Angle for models 220 and 460, but for 300XM it is 340° If the firmware of the remote control is dedicated for 220 and 460, maybe there is this 230° limit, because it reads that for these two models, it can't go further and then it is also limited for 300XM. What do you think?
Hey, I know you returned this, but the gimbal has "Vortex Mode" which means it Has to be able to shoot straight "Out" which would be down if underslung. Do you think it was a firmware updatable issue?
Yea bit it required a mode change, so if you are using it on a crane to show down you put it I to vortex mode but if you are shooting live and full length scenes you don't want to be changing modes it's should all be seamless, it has been a while since I used it I believe they may have resolved it
Just bought this very cheaply for about €115 ex VAT. You mentioned that this was manufactured by Feiyu Tech. Did you see any reference to that somewhere in the device or manual? If so, maybe it will work natively with Feiyu Tech's focus motors. I think I'll buy one to test the hypothesis, but I can't find any reference to Feyu Tech on my device.
Hey man interesting facts, I was just about to buy the 300XM. On the Manfrotto site they claim the remote control is for MVG220 and MVG460, so maybe that is why it is not working properly for 300XM (I need to dig more into it..) I wouldn´t mind the non-functional manual focus for my purposes, but the locked axis when you want to aim 90 degrees down is quite frustrating.
Up-date on Manfrotto MVG300XM I have now received a full refund, shame the gimbal failed I did like the design and when it was working it was a good gimbal worked well with Sony A6400 with 18-105 f4 lens balanced well and performed well for video in this combination.
This is a review from another filmmaker, the video is absolutely correct, same issue wit me. I confirmed with manfrotto about focus motor is not supported.and the do not have any plan to add in future.
Yea there are people in the comments saying other brands of follow focus work but most of us don't have a set of random focus motors to test out, the product is now discontinued anyway so they gave it literally no support
I would ask these people who claim to figure this out with other brand motors . Please make a video and post it here . So we can also learn . I doubt that . I had another motor from PE movie follow focus . I tried it’s not compatible .
Update on the return of faulty Manfrotto MX300 Gimbal more than two weeks now since returned to Manfrotto I have set Email requesting update on the refund as I have had NO Contact from them and now I do not have the gimbal or a refund of the £420 it cost me, my warning of BEWARE seems good advice.
I trusted the brand name so much that i didn’t look for any reviews before ordering the thing.... hugely on sale, why not. What a shockingly disappointing series of mishaps ppl have with this. Shame on me for suckering into the sale price, and suckering into brand name “image”. Hasn’t arrived yet, will cost to get it sent back. Blah.
Beware of this product I have had two, the first one returned with tilt motor problem and second one after nine months the head unit battery failed and I am still waiting for Manfrotto to respond to my Emails for repair the gimbal is not usable. I will not buy Manfrotto products again.

If you face the camera the other direction it would then be able to face down? Like reverse it on the mounting plate.

The end of the manual it says feuitech and I'm sure from memory where the serial number is it says there too
the issue is the maual. but... it is ment to be mounted by the handel to a crane, then you can face 90 dec up and down.

Update for you. This gimbal is just a new labelled feyutech scorp gimbal. So the feyutech follow Fokus motor is working, I bought it and it works 🎉
