I did not know that. Just ran out into the garden, roasted up some seeds in the popcorn popper and brewed it up as an undersized shot of espresso.
This is the sort of knowledge I'm on the web for.
Liked and subscribed.
Did it turn out okay in the popcorn machine?
It’d save a heap of time and electric if so
These sticky little buggers can almost always find me, so I have never searched them out. Now that I know about cleaver coffee, I probably won't be able to find them 😂
I've just finished my first cup of cleaver coffee picked from my garden then roasted !! Wasnt sure what to expect but I I loved it! Thank you so much for making this video.❤🙏
Did it give you the energy that coffee does ,or was the caffeine content to low to notice?
Oh wow. I’m in Brooklyn, NY and I just realized these are the annoying weeds I pull out of my yard constantly through the spring. I can’t leave them growing in the yard or I’d get a ticket from the city, but perhaps if I get them small, I can put them in a pot and keep then around until they seed.
Looks like tea
Big patch across the street from me, I made pesto, now for coffee ☕️
Just discovered you two lovely people, and working my way through your videos..I've read books and web resources over the years but as a very 'visual learner' your videos are perfect, short, simple, step by step methods and new recipe ideas, thank you! 😊 💕
OMGSH you got me at caffeinated coffee 😮 ! I subscribed immediately, lol.
I Like Your Program Very Much. I Watch You From Juarez Mexico 🇲🇽 ❤❤
Wow never thought you could make something like coffee from this wild plant thanks for sharing
If we didn’t have this “noxious weed” I never would have found your wonderful channel. Thanks Cleavers!
In the Southern US, we use dandelion root & chicory root, roasted, for our coffee... My gran always had a patch of chicory. If we had too much, the chickens & goats love to eat it, too. I had some cleavers growing in my yard that were always grabbing at my ankles... Got rid of it, not knowing what it was, dang it. Now I'm going to order seed for it & put it in a big container in an out-of-the way space. Thank you.
So proud I managed to clear a huge amount of cleavers to green waste, just before they spread their seeds, now I could kick myself! I need a list of what to keep for next year 🥴
I use a plant identifier ap and find uses for the many weeds in my yard.
Healthier coffee. Great video.ty
Have lots of sticky willy here in Luther Burbank s town Santa Rosa in Sonoma County California. I make sticky willy pesto in the spring. Will have to try the coffee. We have lots of miners lettuce.Alice Waters used to make salads which is what I do. Chockful of nutrients, the only wild edible plant exported to England and Europe from the US but it mostly grows in California. Miners used to eat it for Vitamin C and tribes used it seasoned with the peppery trails of ants.If you live in California or possibly parts of Oregon there is the California Bay Tree (umbellularia California) from which I get bay leaves (trimmed down; they're strongly mentholated). It's a beautiful tree can grow very old and tall. Beautiful wood for carving.. In the fall the berries Pomo tribes called peppernuts cluster on trees, fall in storms. Considered a delicacy when roasted and ground they're supposedly slightly stimulating, though I didn't experience that so much.
I absolutely love your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and smiles.
I love that, take your time and enjoy the sun
We used to throw these at each other in school .... 😂
I gathered a bunch of those seeds last year intending to try this, but never got around to it. Maybe your video will be the inspiration I need to dig them out of storage & roast them up. LOL
I like to do the slow gathering method in general…. It’s like a meditation for me, I get so peaceful and happy :)
I’m amazed how much their is to know about our nature , cleaver coffee! who knew 🎉 *sips dandelion coffee*
Great channel to learn sooo much. Thanks
Thank you so much, I had no idea!
Why did I not already know this.
Seems like you could keep them cool, dark & dry over winter to use if you run out of coffee, then plant them in the spring for more! Cleavers is also good for the skin. I made a jar of cleavers-infused oil for salve. It's a component of my antibiotic ointment.
Thanks for all your knowledge 😍
Funky. I haven't heard of doing coffee from cleavers before. Makes sense as its in the same family. Just much less popular than doing dandelion or chicory.
You guys are so inspiring to be real versions of ourselves
Omg.... Yes please!!!!
Thank you so much!!
Ooooh...YUM!!!
Thank you so much. I'm gonna go and collect this tomorrow
I love your channel and have learned so much from you.

Amazing. I will keep an eye out and see if I can forage some!

WHHHAAATTT???!! 🤯 well, along with chicory root harvesting this summer, I know what else I'm going to try! Amazing!
Can't wait to find some Cleaver here in WI, USA and try it!
Yet again another wonderful video well done you 2 and massive thanks
Awesome video, I had no idea that they could be used to make coffee
You guys are so perfect! I've subscribed and you are honestly my new idols
Thank you for your lovely comment Cindy we really appreciate your kindness 😁💚
It's good to have teachers and mentors but idols, really? That term idol is used for lack of a better word.
Amazing, thanks! Off I go to collect some! ;)
@@homeiswhereourheartis LOL! well I am still awake and it's past 4am. Years as a midwife on night shift are hard to shake off! I just had one made of dried pineapple weed, tilia, Hawthorne and mint...hopefully sleep will follow soon. I picked a bowlful of the cleaver's seeds and will be roasting them tomorrow! Thanks so much again.
Awesome, I will have to hunt for them in my location. They look so much alike, I thought they were siblings/family. Anyway, thanks for sharing 😀
I have been using cleavers for years, and I never knew!!!coffee?!?!
@@DiAllinson I gather them in the spring, dry them, and use them mostly to make tea.I notice if I drink a cup in the morning I feel much much better, and they are very mild,so they are easy on the system. They seem to get the toxins in our systems moving out and they are good for the lymphatic system. They really are one of my favorite herbs. They also are calming to the system,so for allergies and and over stimulated nervous system they are very helpful.
I've made coffee from Triosteum perfoliatum (Late Horse Gentian). It was a good coffee substitute. I will definitely give this a try.
Making some asap
Would silver foil be ok to bake them on?
Where did you buy the reusable tea bags? I love to have tyem. Ty 🙏
PLEASE SEE TO IT THAT THE TEA BAG & ITS STRING ARE COTTON MATERIAL. THANKS FOR THE NICE VIDEO.
I picked quite a lot to make in bulk (is very abundant here), but ended up with lots of little bits of stalk that are almost impossible to get out (yes, I was a bit impatient - regretting it now!!) Should I go the whole hog and spend an hour or 2 just picking out the stalks, or will they not make much difference to the flavour...? 🤔
I think we have the sticky weeds but ours dont have red lines on the stems and dont see any seeds, balls or flowers on them. They are pretty tall.
I just discovered cleavers! Can you pick them green and let them dry out to use as coffee?
Excellent video and you make a lovely couple ! Where do you get reusable teabags ? Also what is name of soundtrack you played on this ?
U have a new subscriber
Hi thanks for joining us! You can get the tea bags on amazon & the music is by Jamie Norwood 😁
Amazing!!
Can’t wait to try it,
How long will the cleaver coffe last once baked?
I used to hate those sticky balls
I’m wondering if the roasted cleavers still has the same medicinal effect as fresh cleavers tea or a tincture.
Thankyou both , yet again, another awesome video. Id love to know where you get all your knowledge of natural produce?
May i ask, can the cleavers be stored easily? do they need roasting before storage? and how long will they store etc Thankyou lots xx

you two are ace! found you in a Facebook foraging group, I can't wait to watch more! Are you UK based? Would love to hang out and forage together sometime ! ❣️
Thanks, great to have you with us! We are in the UK, love foraging ✌❤
Dear ones, love the enthusiasm. Please consider, not nature made, rather God created!
how much caffeine does it have?
is the flavor stronger than the tea color it looks like?
Put the lot in bag shake and remove the leaves
I learned new things all the time with you. Personally I hate those plants. They crawl and seems to suffocate all the plants that comes into contact with it.
I’m surprised to see cleavers coffee. I know cleavers as a potent diuretic, outperforming the drug Lasix, in my experience. I will certainly try it as a coffee alternative.
are these what keep sticking to my cats fur? i’ve never seen them until recently idk where she’s been going 🤨
Thank you for all your videos they are amazing!!
Such a beautiful family Where in the uk are you from? I live in Lincolnshire I’m trying to connect with like minded souls but haven’t found any😩
@@homeiswhereourheartis 😩 I picked some what I thought were purple dead nettle but now thinking it’s prunula can you please help me make sure I know what it is please can I send you a photo on Facebook? X
God created for nature 5:45
Can you dry the green ones yourself or will they not be the same as picking them once they’ve dryer naturally on the plant
I have an easier way, just let the little dogs run all through the feild, when they get back from an nice run, I just collect from their fur. Its an win win for everyone!
Hello
I was weeding my garden a few weeks ago and was getting rid of these plants ( we call them sticky backs,) but they hit off my leg and left red marks on them for days.
Oh no! Collette maybe you had a reaction to the sticky weed? Hope your leg is ok ✌❤
You may have contact dermatitis from this plant. Do not eat it. You are allergic and it could cause internal allergy symptoms.
Does this plan grow in North America? I guess I should watch the other video shouldn't i?
Did you guys notice the caffeine kick or was the amount of caffeine to low for that?
I dont think out Sticktights get red stems... wonder if its the same thing... i know the roots are medical.

Thanks for joining us! The Latin name is gallium Aparine if that helps
Next year I will for sure let some come to full maturity and see if they do get red stems. We usually pull those suckers the first sign of them so I'm going to be keeping an eye out next year and just have a small patch that I let grow and I'm going to try some of that coffee made from sticky tights
Great idea! Do they grow in Indiana? Does anyone know? 😬
Yes, I'm in eastern Ky and we have it. Google cleavers and hit images. I'm not really sure what it's called here...maybe sticky weed
Loads on way to work
