In all honestly Mihoyo's story and development as a game development company is quite interesting, from 3 university graduates who shared an interest in otaku culture to a billion dollar corporation

fun fact: the reason why the fight between botw and genshin was so intense in China, is because Tencent was behind fueling 'botw' fans, which is why the fight broke out even before the game was released.

Ngl Genshin is literally how I envisioned 3D anime to be. They probably perfected the art of 3d anime and their Honkai CGs are some of the best i've seen

honestly, many people don’t realize that MiHoYo, despite everything, is still an indie company. granted they’re a huge indie company, but they haven’t been sold off or cannibalized by any corporations yet (in fact, they even refused to get absorbed into the fucking _Tencent monopoly,_ who _actually views them as a threat)._ the success of MiHoYo is insane and as someone who has been following them since the global launch of Honkai Impact, I really do wish them the best.
edit: turns out (largely suspected because they face no pressure from shareholders as they are entirely independent), their workers in turn are also not as pressured and are not only paid almost double the salary of other Chinese game studios, but are treated INCREDIBLY. and if anyone knows anything about the game industry you’d know that it’s such an absolute hellscape to work in, like pretty much every single studio save some extremely small indies are just complete shitholes in terms of worker treatment, so to have miHoYo not only not mistreat their devs but actually treat them _really well_ (like they completely deserve) is just… holy cow. say what you want about them but I respect them madly for this. (and also a massive shame-on-you to other big studios like Blizzard or Riot or Rockstar because if this studio can pay their workers well and treat them even better, you should be able to too. no excuse smh)

Genshin is pretty much f2p friendly (unlike previous Honkai impact 3rd), if not it's just simply player needy and want every characters in the game without spending money, they want pvp and infinity content while MHY basicially want player to focus on more than 1 game and player just find excuses to hate them which is getting tired not entertaining anymore
tencent is the worst, like Hutao releases might be a little bit better but peps like tencent would abuse smallest thing like that and try to cancelled Mihoyo (look at honkai 3rd anniversary where they got pissed by bunny cos and Fuhua thingy and they give literally no F on Fuhua's line on Fuhua's speech on moonhalo during fes thingy). some say ruining other compay is business, tencent did that. Mihoyo didn't and somehow became big enemy to many games just because they made good quality games and got the fame they deserve, they even proved mobile game could be good when people thought that's impossible back when HI3 first released

yes i live in a country that's famous with the gacha and ngl our translating mostly shit cuz japanese's english, it's easy for chinese to understand and translate japanese but in backward.... welcome to hell. But we mostly never blame the game dev but game's translator, we even understand it's hard to do the translate cuz so many thing literally have no meaning or can not be translated to any other language, even one VA who grew up in USA i think? her name is Uchida Shuu and she admited that she has problem with japanese despite being voice actress at both ENG and JPN

Gacha aside, Mihoyo really give a good storyline in their game such as GGZ, Honkai Impact 3, and Genshin. and the lore in Honkai recently is really made me tear up

when i was a kid i had literally one of those first gen ipads, the ones black and bulky, and i played fly me 2 the moon all of the time. it was one of my favorite games, i loved getting past all the levels it had, (didn’t get past all of them though) and i remember her falling, all of those past memories??? and only recently i found out that it was also produced by mihoyo. now i can say ive been playing their games for awhile now lmfao. Luckily, HoTH did not found them.

The theory is that paimon is god of time who was forgotten, and likely related to the sustainer of heavenly principal unknown God whom appeared at the start of the game. So paimon could in fact be Kiana.

@@Fett-Haskesin not really? I'm saying that kiana is paimon. Mihoyo only used Kiana as their game icon, which paimon is for genshin. Mihoyo has publicly stated that genshin is a continuation of honkai impact 3rd. There is very similar design between kiana and paimon plus lore relevance.

Man, here I thought that Honkai Impact 3rd was the best game that they have ever created then all of a sudden Genshin Impact was announced. I am already at the end game of HI3 before Genshin was released and I feel so proud to be able to witness Genshin blow up. Congrats, MiHoYo.

@@rias.gremoryyy what the fuck, the fighting controls felt like shit to me. I have never seen such clunky character movement on any game. It geniuenly felt like it was just designed for controllers. And not to mention how the game just does some shitty ass slow mo action every time I dodge attacks.
Also I didn't understand the plot of the game but that's probably just me giving up on playing the game after completing the first chapter of the story.

I wonder what will happen with Honkai 4th, since apparently back when Genshin was released they already filed a trademark for the title
Back when Honkai was released globally I was just in awe that such a big game exists on mobile. And it was like total of 6 GB. Back in that time I didn't believe a game above 2-3 GB can exist for a mobile. That's why it took my interest and started playing it. I didn't even watched that much anime back then except Naruto but I enjoyed it for a couple of months then quit cuz the story was not in English dub and made it harder for me to understand. Then I saw release news of Genshin which was from Mihoyo. Knowing that they had made such a good game like Honkai I had high hopes (which came true). And by this time I was almost well versed in the cultures of animes. I had watched like 100 series at that point starting in 2019. So now that i liked anime Genshin felt like a dream game. I'm happy to be playing it since release.
Honkai is still their best game currently story wise though

I had the same situation towards Honkai, but only heard about Genshin a week before release, in the game's lobby someone was talking about Mihoyo' making an open-world game. I downloaded it without seeing a single trailer and tought it would be something similar to Sakura Samsara/Schicksaw open world maps so it was absurdly better than what I tought of. It's nice to see how far the team got.

Wish he touched more into honkai since it's like the first game that mihoyo stepped up with the plot, animation and everything else basically. To this date, HI3 still has the best CG cutscenes that took mihoyo years to achieve and it's believed to set grounds for a lot of genshin's fundamental world/character buildings, though both are different in many ways.

At August 9 2021 Mihoyo has announce that Honkai Gakuen 2 (GGZ) SEA and US server will be shutting down at October 11 2021 due to lack of staff to operate the server
