      Well pink Himalayan salt is not iodized and contains other micro nutrients table salt may not

    • @Frasianfamily
      @Frasianfamily 5 років тому +3

      lgal56 ““Himalayan salt does contain trace amounts of minerals like potassium, magnesium, iron, and more, but the amounts are insignificant and afford no additional health benefits,” says Jeff McGrath, a clinical dietitian at Westchester Medical Center, the university hospital of New York Medical College. Ironically, Himalayan pink salt also contains barely detectable amounts of elements that would be harmful if isolated and consumed in large doses, such as arsenic and uranium,” McGrath says.

      @@Frasianfamily I totally agree with that but claiming its identical to table salt is simply incorrect

    • @rubyblue153
      @rubyblue153 5 років тому

      From my perspective, I think iodised table salt is better for you than sea salt. Sea salt may have some benefits such as minerals but these are in trace amounts that you can already gain from eating other foods such as bananas (potassium), spinach (iron), majority of foods (magnesium) and dairy products (calcium). Don't forget that when you use salt you only use a little anyways else the food is salty which is barely enough intake of these minerals compared to eating actual food. On the other hand table salt has iodine added which prevents goitre and thyroid problems which are major health problems in regions of the world where a balanced diet is hard to maintain. Similarly they both have about the same amounts of sodium so there's really no difference; just use it in moderation. Price wise table salt is alot cheaper than sea salt (where I live table salt is more common and cheaper at around less than US $0,50 for 500g whilst sea salt ranges from $1 to $4 for 250g) . But I guess you just have to research and decide for yourself on which salt is best for you depending on your health and income.

    So, what are your thoughts on studies indicating that people without gluten allergies still need gluten as it promotes good health, it's linked to reduced risk of heart diseases and may even boost immune functions?

      I think the point of the article I linked was that, just like going Vegan, excluding certain foods doesn’t automatically mean you will be healthier. It depends on how you eat and having a well rounded diet. There are still unhealthy things that are gluten free or vegan. I hope that answers your questjon!

    I won’t use Stevia but then again I typically do not use sugar except for baking for the holidays.
    My honey comes from my friends personal beehives, raw natural right from the hive. It’s amazing, haven’t bought any other for years.
    The coconut nectar sounds like something I can easily incorporate into my kitchen. I use coconut milk (homemade) for smoothies, and adding instead of cows milk for most applications and avocado oil to cook.
    I also appreciate the pasta tips. We don’t have a Trader Joe’s and our grocery selection is extremely lacking in pasta alternatives but I’ll definitely try that black bean pasta.

    I often find it conflicting when you hear advice like avoid gluten and stop eating dairy, even if you don’t have intolerances to these types of foods. I have undergone tests for all types of intolerances and found out I have a fructose intolerance. But my results showed no sensitivity towards gluten or lactose, so doesn’t that mean it’s okay to continue eating gluten and lactose? Would love some clarification on this. Thanks in advance.

      you should only avoid gluten if you have celiacs disease and leave out diary, if you are lactose intolerant.
      some people are allergic to certain kinds of pollen and develop cross sensitivities over time - for example wheat. most people who feel "gluten intolerant" are just wheat sensitive.

      It's about sugar intake. Gluten and dairy are mostly carbohydrates and eating them affects your blood sugar levels and thus affects your hormonal balance.

    I am a registered dietitian and I think it's bad for you to advise people to avoid gluten products as a doctor. Wheat products provide fortification of micronutrients to help with health. B vitamins, folic acid, etc. I understand if someone is getting a well balanced diet that might not be necessary, but a child who is still growing who might not know about Celiac's disease or the gluten trend, will think, "this doctor is telling me not to eat wheat products." That could have negative effects on their development. Or a girl of pre-conception age. Folic acid is very difficult to get the RDA from veggies, that could put her and her baby at risk for neural tube defects. The only people who should avoid gluten are those with the sensitivity under doctor's advice. I'm not saying eat it always, but don't eliminate major food groups, have it in moderation like everything else. The same with dairy. Dairy provides a lot of nutrition for children in particular. I'm lactose intolerant, and can't stand dairy, but knowing the science, I wouldn't advise against it, if people can tolerate it.
