  • This is the third and potentially final epsode in my series on the rise of casio, which digs deep - 30 mins plus deep! - on the array of mad and surprisingly advanced releases from Casio from 1990 to 1999 with some slight tangents and detours along the way into the history of electroluminescence and the lead up to indiglo vs. Fox Fire / Illuminator , the emergence of digital compass watches , the various Masters of G G-Shock models from the frogman to the gaussman and more , as well as the high end MR-G models. Did you know the casio had a watch in the 90s that could detect when your mobile was ringing? (Casio vivcel) Measure the force of your punches and kicks? (cybermax 300) Make avatars of your friends? (friendly memo) - watch this episode to get a taste of when casio were in their prime.

I miss my first G-Shock: the 1996 DW-6700 Twin Sensor. But OK, it was not really the first of it's kind. It still was a supercool watch though. I remember seeing ads for it, flanked by the DW-6600 and the DW-6900. That's when I really got drawn to G-Shock. I got that watch for my 18th birthday and still have it.

I have been binge watching your videos the last few days, I have learned Casio made a watch for everything literally, and the features were not too far away from a standard watch so it was heavily in marketing to sell these watches. I think they got it right with the Protrek series, and hope they make even more advanced features that are actually usable in future releases. Hey can u help me find out some information on this penta graph I just purchased. Where all the penta graphs I'm finding are model number "PGW-30" this one I have is literally the PGW-30 3V(pictured in the ad you showed for the watch),same turquoise bezel but instead has "PGW-92" stamped on the backplate. It's not a counterfeit as the quality is top notch. When I searched on Google the only thing that really came up was a OEM replacement strap that has "Barcelona" written on it on the spot where "100m" is written on the PGW-30 strap. So with this info I'm guessing this watch had SOMETHING to do with the Olympics in Barcelona in 1992 but I can't find anything that explains it.

  • @TechTokOffical

So this is the 3rd time I'm watching this and keep finding things that stand out. This time it's the pentagraph again. Only thing I don't understand is the calendar starts at 1982 if it came out in 89. Like why would they put 7 years that already happened as a selectable date

Oh i wish Casio would re-release the Databankwatch style of the DBC-1500. With the lume calculator buttons. And making these buttons more long-lasting. There is simply no present Databank model that contains an EPROM which stores the Databank informations and keeps them alive even when you swap out the battery. Heck, make it a solar model too and I'd throw my money at Casio.

@@IlluminatingWatches Yeah i have a vintage DBC-1500 (sadly not the one with the glowing keys) and one of the keys don't work. And it's almost too good to be worn a lot as it is my only one. I'd rather keep the vintage one preserved and wear a modern version instead :P The battery consumption of that vintage model is also pretty high, even when refrain from using the EL button a lot. The old models also don't appear often. The one i have actually came from the USA and i had to get it shipped to Germany because nobody in Germany offered one (neither did anyone in the rest of Europe.. and also not for a good price). It's nice to have an oldtimer but if you invest a lot of money for one, you don't really wanna drive it daily.
