It's great to hear your voice getting stronger as the shock of all the destruction begins to wear off. I am sending special prayers right now that Nicole doesn't send too much rain and wind. Your beaches need a break before anymore flooding and wind damage. Plus, I understand Sanibel is now dealing with some Red Tide which can take some time to correct.
Please continue to stay safe and secure. The time to help heal your beaches is coming. No doubt there will be more heartache as you once again have to face unbelievable devastation. Be strong! xoxoxoxo

I am sitting here editing my video for Sunday, bummed that Hurricane Nicole ended up cancelling the county tourism meeting that I wanted to attend and I can get zero info on the water quality on Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach since the beaches are closed. I'd love to even just kayak past the beaches so I can see them but I think I'm going to have to be patient and wait. I also think you are right that I will have another round of heartache once I can see my beaches again, but I also know time will help heal. I'm ready to get that process started but there are so many other priorities - I know. Thanks so much for the prayers!! ❤️❤️

You are right, we did all scream to keep that big ol' Lightning Whelk! The Dolphins playing was delightful for sure. It is so nice to see that the water quality is beginning to improve. I saw a report about the Manatee and their struggle to find food when the water is murky, so it was great to see the water at Marco looking so clean and clear. I am sure water quality will fluctuate for awhile as the environment heals. The live critters were a joy to see, and the amazing variety of live shells was especially nice. Of course, as always when you shell your favorite Marco spot, you got a lovely haul.

I had also heard the animals on Sanibel were having a hard time finding fresh water since the hurricane wrecked so much and left zero fresh water behind. It's rained a bit so I hope they are having an easier time. I'll take any little slide of heaven I can get!

I love when you get to go around that jetty!!! I can’t believe there aren’t any people out there. I guess that is not a hotel, that people live there. I would be out there every day looking for shells, watching the dolphins. I saw my first dolphins at Myrtle Beach this year, there were 2 and I think the 3rd one was a baby. I had to put in a new heat pump this summer so my dream of coming down there is down the drain this year. Keep finding those beautiful shells and let us come along!!!

We just bought a car located in Naples. I was so, so excited as that meant we could have a road trip from Naples home to Northern California, and that also meant I might have an opportunity to take a shell tour. I have been so obsessed with your wonderful videos, I have learned a lot, and really appreciate your upbeat attitude and the way you help take care of the environment by removing trash.
Unfortunately our state motor vehicle departments are not simpatico, so we have to have the car shipped here! However, I will get to Southwest Florida one day and enjoy doing this myself. Obviously the hurricane had other plans for us, but rather then canceling the whole thing, after listening to your video about how much the area needed tourist dollars we rerouted and just stayed in Marco the whole time. We went on a shelling tour, rented a boat, and contributed as much as we could to the local economy! We even rented our car from a local on a app called Turo!!!! But literally…. Hello, dear Beach Angel, so glad to see you back where you belong! When I lived beside the sea, on Santa Rosa Island, off Pensacola, we got clobbered in 1979 by Hurricane Frederic. It really dealt us a terrible blow, though it actually made landfall in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Like Julie L. comments below, hurricanes are part of the great wheel of life and death, creation and destruction and while we do not like the latter work which nature has to do, we who are wise bow our knees to the work of nature.
We mourn the loss of life and homes, businesses and beloved landmarks. Their absence can never be undone, only keenly felt, but time will dull the pain and blunt the sadness. There will be better days when beautiful shells draw us to the dangerous shore again, when we will collect lovely treasures again, gathering and cherishing their beauty.
You are braver than I, my sweet, sun-kissed friend, for you choose to stay and roll the dice each time the Gulf rouses itself and lashes the ones who challenge its power and fury. My family and I packed up and sold out, leaving the danger of the hurricanes and making our way to the mountains of North Carolina.
Still, as my tear filled eyes gazed upon the carnage Ian left behind, the siren song of the sea echoed in my ears and called to me to return to the place of my birth, to the place where the sea sometimes hurls itself past the boundaries set for it by the Master of the Seas. It is hard to ignore the whisper of the waves on the shore, the cries of the gulls, the gentle music of the shells tumbling over each other in the slow movement of the waves. Oh, how I almost envy you, dear Beach Angel, for your courage! Perhaps one day I, too, will gather my strength and I will never again be
    The Lost Mermaid

      How is your health??
I saw on the news there is another weather system brewing but it hopefully will not amount to much of anything. I have to admit, right after Ian I heard the word "hurricane" and my stomach dropped. There are a lot of pretty damaged people here still trying to clean up and decide how to move forward. We're going to stay. I love it here and the fury of the sea is a wicked one, but she does give us enough time to get out of the way if you're willing to listen. I hope the storms are much kinder at least for the next few years. I could use some boring!

Ohhh that was sooo nice seeing 3 dolphins!! I was so worried about them, and the manatees, I think you have those there, and this is the first I am seeing of any. I still am crushed over the loss of the bird and her nest in the middle of the between island waters that sat on that sign post, I know there was no way she could withstand the storm, then I heard about the 3 dome or 4 domes and how you lost those, I knew that bird and the nest were gone, My heart just breaks,
SO! what a breath of fresh air seeing as you said things returning back to normal. Beautiful haul Sharmon, great seeing all the critters again, life goes on.

I agree that seeing the Dolphin is a sign all will be okay in nature. What a gift! Incredible statistic too of the beach trash picked up. That is awesome too. See ya on the next one! Thanks again

One of my favorite things to do, was to go to lake Michigan Beach, in NW IN. No shells or critters like down there. Living through you vicariously 🤗

Awe thank you again Sharmon I love your videos. I don't think you would have any qualms about going even farther to get shells lol. I live in California and I would go there in a heartbeat if I could. Thanks to you we get to go to all your shelling spots, and always find great shells. The dolphins were super awesome. Just an all around relaxing video.💜🤗🐢

So very happy to see life at the beach returning! And that there are some beaches you can still access with lesser degree of devastation Ian wasn't the first life altering storm and it won't be the last, but it's important to remember that life does continue on and even with the heartbreaking devastation that does occur, storms also can bring new life into focus as well. The death and birth cycles are very much circular and in sync with each other. It is all part of creation. Thank you for sharing. this is probably one of my favorite of your videos because it's so nice to get back to the beach...even if it is vicarious!

    • @SWFBeachLife
      @SWFBeachLife Рік тому +1

When I'm at the beach I often thing of those pine trees that need fire to open their seeds up. Life and death really are very closely related. I'll be so much more settled when I am able to go back to the beaches and help clean them up!
