What better way to freshen up the old FinnWars mod for BF1942 than to see a true comparison between the technology and detail difference that over a decade of graphical advancement has brought us, and focusing it on the Suomi KP/31 Submachinegun of Finnish origin.

From the FinnWars dev that made the animation for FW: we couldn't change the animation keyframes with any real tools unless every developer would have paid houndreds of dollaridoos for the 3D software. I really hated the old animations with no magazine extraction animations but I managed to hack it. I also made an FK hack for the Nagant revolver so it wouldn't seem as absurd as loading a semi-automatic pistol. I also remember trying to make the gripping of the SMG for Suomi more realistic, but the BF42 and freeware GMax opportunities were quite impossible, the gun was basically superglued to the right wrist of the character, so we couldn't change the position of the gun through the animation. Good times. :D
EDIT: one of the most infurating things with the BF42 animation system was that we could not disconnect the gun model from the player's right hand, so the superglue situation prevented us from creating any good locking mechanism operating for the whole project
That is very interesting to hear, thanks so much for the input, your game was such a legend for the time! The animations were more than adequate for the mod, you guys did a hell of a job for Finnish culture in my opinion with the whole mod project cc:)

This weapon has a pretty distinct high pitch, sharp sound. Neither game really sounds right. Also sounds like the fire rate isn't quite there in either game. The "feel" of the recoil in BFV seems off as well. You are not supposed to have the individual shots bounce the muzzle around, as much as as it is a constant force that is very controllable. BFV recoil is clearly making the gun bounce with individual shots changing the orientation each time. Something your would have on a slower RoF weapon, and in general lighter / higher caliber weapons. Suomi is quite heavy for a 9mm.
have you shot one in real life? the sounds you get from guns in youtube videos sound pretty different to when you hear them in real life.
At the end of the day, it’s still a video game. If you take an absolute buzz saw like the Suomi and give it little recoil like it has IRL, do you have any idea how bad that’d upset weapon balance?
The game would be even more unplayable if they made all weapons shoot like they do in real life.. there would be that one weapon thats annoyingly superior and everyone would use that one weapon.. why do you think they nerf or buff weapons them all the time?

Well the thing is that BFV is way more advanced in sound and other details but the RoF in SKP was more realistic in FinnWars but the actual thing is that SKP has way higher RoF in reality but this is a game so they had to cut it slower so it wouldnt become AEK-971 all over again
But as I have heard the SKP been fired before id say FinnWars did it way better soundwise but BFV did the sound more realistically as it is way more advanced game than BF1942 was
