We had an incident here today. Some entitled woman was working out in a sports bra at the Y. Which, because it's the Y, is against their dress code. It ended up escalating to the point where the police were called, she then threw weights at officers and even bit one. What happened? why can't people just act decently in public?

I live nearby in the Bitterroot Mountains. This kind of behavior, black, white, yellow or brown is almost unheard of. But when it does happen, the statistics don’t lie.

I like this guy. Just says it like it is. I’m up north too, never saw a black person growing up. Then our small city built some low income housing, started seeing things like you did on a regular basis. So I moved out in the woods. Peace and quiet are priceless.

In my mom’s hometown at my grandmas house it was mostly black people that surrounded the area in the backwoods of southeast Texas in a little town called hillister. Where the roads are dirt and have county road number whatever instead of actual names. Peaceful and quiet. when i was a little boy it was mostly black people and not very many white people in the surrounding area. Now Im 23 and more white people have moved there and going back as a teenager and young adult i noticed there are a bit more and i said to my mom “thats the most white people I’ve ever seen in this side of hillister”. She replied back “yeah there been alot more people seeing the value in and buying the land back here”. Does that make me racist that i made an observation?

Feel ya man.. getting ready to move back home to idaho. The past 6-7 years of my life in the seattle area have been hell when it comes to just dealing with the average person you encounter. It’s a completely different way of life man, can’t even begin to explain it but I can tell you that people are too far into their own worlds.

Culture, and cultural attitudes/values are the issue. And, fact, not all cultures are of equal worth. It has nothing to do with an immutable characteristic like race.

As a North Idaho boy, who somehow landed in the willamette valley; this is how I feel daily. Humans will be treated like humans, animals will be treated like animals. Animals, cannot demand that I treat them like humans.

For years i thought Washington was the best state to live. Probably because i grew up here. But the older i get i think about how nice it would be to move to my mothers hometown of White Fish or my grandmas hometown of Kalispell. My trips to Montana have always been amazing.

I graduated from the second most diverse high school in the nation (in Alaska of all places). As long as you recognize that its not a skin color thing youll get no grief from me. In my experience the biggest predictor of behavior is economic class. Poor people (myself included until I became an engineer at 30) tend to be 50/50 where the struggle either galvanizes them in hyper aware socially skilled people or just entirely jades them from participating healthily in society. Id bet money its directly related to parenting capability. A good indicator of how important it is that we keep the idea of 'the american dream' alive.
But also... its time to admit that the urban environment you experience as a homeless person in VEGAS of all places probably is somewhat atypical yeah? Also I think your 'people who are actually mentally ill' number is CRAZY.
