I love Chicago tuning on my plectrum banjo, guitarists and ukulele players suddenly can transpose things they know and have a lot more fun being introduced to the instrument
First one is an early 1923-1925 B&D Super Banjo with a perforated tone ring. Second one looks like an 80s-90s Ome Juggernaut(not sure on this one). Both are 22-fret plectrum banjos.
Hello sir, i have a question. Can I play Chicago tuning on a 17 or 19 frets banjo? What gauge would you advise for my strings? Or what string pack reference would you advise? THANK YOU very MUCH
The plectrum has the same string length and number of frets as a guitar - just 2 less bass strings. Therefore it is a natural for "guitar" tuning. the tenor banjos are suited to tuning in 5ths, not 4ths and 3rds like a guitar.
Thank you for asking: You can play the 4-string-guitartuning on the nineteen frets tenorbanjoscale by using following strings: D from guitar. 033, G from tb. 026, B from guitar. 016. E from guitar. 010; for the seventeen frets tenorbanjo you can tune the strings a half tone higher to Eb-Ab-C-F with the same strings as on nineteen frets.
