Brice Marden’s monumental masterpiece ‘Event’ leads the 21st Century Evening Sale. Executed between 2004 and 2007, ‘Event’ is one of only six works from the artist’s ‘The Propitious Garden of Plane Image’ series. In ‘Event’, Marden embraces his notion of the ‘plane image’, in which he explores the optical depth of paint. The brushstrokes are bold and expressive, conveying a sense of movement which reflects the rhythms of nature. Marking the highpoint of Marden’s ‘summation paintings’, ‘Event’ is a culmination of all the strides this extraordinary artist took throughout his groundbreaking career.
