@@adskFusion not at all, I just noticed it and wanted to save other people from potential problems. I would love for you to pin/heart my comment, so others can see it! Cheers
Thanks Hans. I've always noticed that cura has a hard time making a multibody piece look seemless once it's printed. It's probably because I never heard about what you just explained, thank you.
these are my favorite type of tutorials Taylor! Please make more, this is the best way to learn just basically watching a skilled user do his thing. Very concise, very clean and not too fast not too slow, perfect. Would have been cool to see the lamp finished though...
I just started using Fusion 360 and I am amazed at how easy it is. There should be a course in high school for Fusion 360 just like there was for typing. Just like typing has become very important, 3D design will be very important soon as 3D printing becomes common place.
I’m late to the party, but I’ve learned more in watching 3 videos here than I have by tinkering for 2 weeks. Fantastic job man. I can not possibly thank you enough.
I am very much a newbie here. But your tutorial took away a good portion of my anxiety. Thank You. But as a newbie your mouse moves a bit too quick for me to see what you have chosen from the various menus. But the more I watch the more I learn. I also can always pause and rewind, a bit of a pain, but what learning curve isn't. Subbed. Thanks again.
Amazing tutorial, thank you! Such clear and easy-to-follow instructions... I like that you didn't use shortcuts and instead showed us where to go with the mouse 😃
This program is mind-blowing! Years ago I tried to teach myself patch modelling in both 3dsmax and Maya - whilst I made some progress I eventually gave up because of all the clumsy and complex operations you had to perform attaching, detaching and stitching surfaces together. I therefore chose to develop my high poly modelling skills and left behind NURBs as an interesting concept but impractical method for creating complex models that would be used for animation or game assets. I've always been aware of programs like AutoCAD, SolidWorks and even Sketchup as good solutions to producing complex accurate surface geometry - however, I never viewed them as creative as your ability to radically alter or kit bash a model together with purpose was limited. This program is nothing short of a revolution in its approach to surface modelling - all of the complex operations are gone and you are free to manipulate your creation with precise control. I'm sure a lot of other poly modellers must be looking at this program and seeing the possibilities... I've already experimented creating shapes that I've exported out as meshes to Zbrush and the results incredible. The meshes will eventually require retopology in the final stages for the kind of work I do - but this isn't too difficult. If Autodesk could also develop a way to export these models out with good quad topology then this program would be perfect!
ok nice one @Autodesk Fusion 360 i did follow this with my version of fusion 4.5 all done and went well , i had to find some commands because i work with a newer version that was no problem but now at that moment wen you could change some settings like dimensions now loot at 10:30 if i change the lenght and with then wen i look at the end its all an mess with the lines across the lamp
Nice little tutorial. I was still thinking about how you'd get all the holes in there so nicely while you just made a big "hole" and just left the small strips... It's thinking like that newbies like me have to learn.
Who the hell gave this video a thumbs down? WHO? So clearly explained. I am a huge fan of shortcuts but I liked the way he repeatedly went to the same menu item to reinforce the process. Superb thank you.
when you do the circular pattern for one of the body(body 1 pattern), Fusion 360 auto create a C-Pattern Group, but mine doesn't. Is there any way to fix that? Thank you.
Great Video! How did you manage to put all the resulting bodies in 9:27 in one group? You don't show it in the video and when I perform this action, I get all the bodies listed separately in the browser, which is very annoying. Thanks in advance!
Thank you for the detailed tutorial. I never used fusion 360 before but i was able to create and print this lampshade. I wish I could attach the beautiful pictures here.

just finished your tutorial and followed along by making my own in an open fusion 360 window. very good tutorial. fun, cool looking project and easy to follow pace and directions. i'll try more of your vids and share them with others!
Thanks Robby! This has been a user favorite tutorial for a while now...which is why I just added it to a new Essentials Playlist. Check out the others there!
I enjoyed that video thanks. I did try this and I was able to save a step. When I rotated the bodies I chose both of the artifacts that were generated by the extrude. I just needed one rotation rather than two.
The "Split body" tool isn't giving me "closed" bodies! It gives me bodies that are missing a top/bottom face along the cutting plane! How do I get it to work as it does in the video?
great presentation, exactly what I was looking for. I add my specific userParameters in Solid/Modify/ChangeParameters allowing to change it easily without opening sketch.
11:10 Before exporting to STL, don't we have to combine those bodies into one solid body? Or the export feature automatically do so? Thank you very much in advance.
I would seriously like to see a follow-up video on this combining of bodies using boolean. Yes it may seem mundane, but this would mean so much to so many. Thanks! GREAT VIDEO!

When you apply "Appearances" in Fusion their is a library with "Emissive" appearances that you would apply to the light bulb and that's what creates the light. I hope this is what you're asking. - Jacob S.
Don't need to "Edit" (Skecth) the spline to modify the exterior geometry of the lampshade, simply "Show" the skecth and have fun with the point control of the spline. ;)
For me, I'd want to play it safe and combine before printing. If it doesn't let you combine, there's a good chance the printing software might find some issues with the model too.
Great Tutorial Taylor :) I did find a problem though.. When I'm about to make the array, the pattern tool is disabled so doesn't allow me to create the pattern with the body. It only enables when I make 'new sketch' but again it doesn't allow to select a body, doesn't even give me that option as in yours.
Love the tutorial. One thing that I can't figure out though: when I create the patterns, it gives me a ton of different bodies, instead of putting it into a c-pattern folder like it does in your video. How can I resolve that issue?

Hi,
Any reason why you didn't join or combine all the separate bodies to create a solid body rather than intersecting bodies?
Regards,
I was wondering the exact same thing.
What is the advantage to creating a sketch geometry then defining it's dimensions in a seperate operation as opposed to inputting it's dimension when you create it?
For reminding yourself what the critical dimension lines are , otherwise no difference.
Thanks! Best tutorial out there! I now have a fantastic looking lamp/vase to show as my first 3d CAD drawing!

In the final rendering, how did you get the light bulb to be that bright?
