      Stefan Unson dairy isn’t stable here in the US of A?!?! Rn in northeast a whole bunch of dairy barns are shutting down because rhey can’t innovate around the declining prices of milk

    Great video..I know what it takes to do a dairy farm.. My dad's oldest sister had a dairy farm and milked by tie stall and 5 cows by hand as she sold milk and butter and cottage cheese and eggs from house and delivered every Saturday in town. Later on I worked at big dairy farm up the road from us. 120 cow herd.. everything is gone now..my aunt and uncle farm and the big dairy farm gone too.

      Yes, they go out and graze during the daytime as much as weather allows. When it starts getting really cold/snowing, they usually stay in.

    How many cows are you currently milking? Also there seems to be a few three teated cows, why is that?

    • @columbusalleycats1
      @columbusalleycats1  7 років тому

      Usually we are milking between 75-90 cows. There are a few cows that we only milk three teats because the other one is infected, etc. and that milk can't be put in the tank with the rest.

    Feeding a baby cow formula with a bottle because they aren't allowed to be with their mothers. What does that say about the industry?

    • @columbusalleycats1
      @columbusalleycats1  7 років тому +5

      The formula has everything they need. The only take the formula for so long until they are given water and feed just like any other cow.

    • @katstarr5383
      @katstarr5383 5 років тому

      Yes we do take the calf’s milk for ourself but milk replacement has LOTS of nutrition and allows the cow to grow to full potential. From what I can see this is a nice and lovely farm. If u don’t want to contribute to this lifestyle then don’t drink milk! I’ve never seen a farm run this good.

    Seems pretty ridiculous to give a baby calf a "milk replacer", when they should be drinking the milk their mother naturally makes just for them. You know, the mother they were quickly ripped away from.

      We make sure that the babies get the nutrients they need from their mother's milk before weening them off. The babies cannot have their mother's milk forever. We need the mother's milk for other people like you and me.
