Stefan Unson dairy isn’t stable here in the US of A?!?! Rn in northeast a whole bunch of dairy barns are shutting down because rhey can’t innovate around the declining prices of milk
Great video..I know what it takes to do a dairy farm.. My dad's oldest sister had a dairy farm and milked by tie stall and 5 cows by hand as she sold milk and butter and cottage cheese and eggs from house and delivered every Saturday in town. Later on I worked at big dairy farm up the road from us. 120 cow herd.. everything is gone now..my aunt and uncle farm and the big dairy farm gone too.
Love family run farms! Good to see u doin it all yourself. Mass industries is what turns people to that vegan lifestyle. People don’t want to see animals being mistreated. Family run farms all the way!!!
bucket broken lmao. Here we have a thing called "boot broken" it's when your boots slide on easy because there harder to get on when there new. Gotta break them in XD
Usually we are milking between 75-90 cows. There are a few cows that we only milk three teats because the other one is infected, etc. and that milk can't be put in the tank with the rest.
@@columbusalleycats1 hello are looking for a Dairy farmer worker? I'm trying to apply ,sending some resume many times, agency to agency, is there a direct hiring as dairy farmer??? Thanks :)
That's what I was thinking. They look like some of the tractors I saw in an antique tractor parade last year. It's cool when people keep them at their real job instead of just putting them in a parade.
Yes we do take the calf’s milk for ourself but milk replacement has LOTS of nutrition and allows the cow to grow to full potential. From what I can see this is a nice and lovely farm. If u don’t want to contribute to this lifestyle then don’t drink milk! I’ve never seen a farm run this good.
Seems pretty ridiculous to give a baby calf a "milk replacer", when they should be drinking the milk their mother naturally makes just for them. You know, the mother they were quickly ripped away from.
We make sure that the babies get the nutrients they need from their mother's milk before weening them off. The babies cannot have their mother's milk forever. We need the mother's milk for other people like you and me. Thank you for your comments and concerns. Have a nice day.
laCinnab because it's a food full of nutrients more than likely your ancestors survived on it which ended up giving you life. If you are not happy about it go spout your nonsense on some vegan propaganda video.
Why do you say that? They are treated well and that's what milk cows are bred for. They looked well cared for to me. Nice operation they have going there. You must be a lettuce chomper.
Olive Shupe You believe that I exploited them because I made an educational video? This was made as a high school senior project. I thought it was something interesting that my community could learn more about. That’s all it was.
I didn't rea;ize what it takes to run a dairy farm. Cudos to all the farmers that do this amazing work.
I used to spend my summers and holidays on my uncles dairy farm when I was a kid. Brings back a lot of great memories!
Great video Katie
Grate video Katie keep up the good work it's hard work but worth it silage is just a pleasure when you like it
Very well done! Thank you for posting so I could finally see it!
You're right. It's worth it and it's a very stable job; we'll all go hungry without the farmers.

Very good management where is this farm?
Columbus, Ind.
Hi katie, what kind of weather temps do you get?.we cannot grow maze for grain or soya the weather isnt good enough.
Our weather during the summer is usually between 80-95 degrees Fahrenheit.
Are they still milking
Hi Katie do your cows go out to graze?
Yes, they go out and graze during the daytime as much as weather allows. When it starts getting really cold/snowing, they usually stay in.
How much that chopper marching
hey how are you??
Hi Katie do you make any of grass si!age?, We are on second cut grass silage the first being taken early may.
Our silage is made of corn that we chop in September.
THANK YOU
bucket broken lmao. Here we have a thing called "boot broken" it's when your boots slide on easy because there harder to get on when there new. Gotta break them in XD
Hi Katie where in the state's do you farm?,do you grow all your own feed?,I'm from the uk.
We are located in Indiana. And yes, we do grow our own feed.
How many cows are you currently milking? Also there seems to be a few three teated cows, why is that?
Usually we are milking between 75-90 cows. There are a few cows that we only milk three teats because the other one is infected, etc. and that milk can't be put in the tank with the rest.
The toughest job called dairy former
at my last farm job i allways went up 04.30
Gustav Andersson very ealry bro
oopps forgot about washing the teats first
Hi Katie how many cows do you milk, how many acres do you farm?
I believe they milk around 75-90 depending on how many dry cows they have. I'm not sure how many acres they currently farm.
@@columbusalleycats1 hello are looking for a Dairy farmer worker? I'm trying to apply ,sending some resume many times, agency to agency, is there a direct hiring as dairy farmer??? Thanks :)
How old are those tractors? Very interesting video.
You know what? I'm not totally for sure. They're at least 50-60 years old I would imagine.
That's what I was thinking. They look like some of the tractors I saw in an antique tractor parade last year. It's cool when people keep them at their real job instead of just putting them in a parade.
They are Case 400 models from the 1950's. We had two on our farm.
how many acres you farm?
I'm not sure how many they farm at the moment.
I'm not sure how many acres they currently farm.

Its a good video,,,but i am so irritated that you put the background music too loud!!! I hardly hear you...
Yes, I agree. It's been a while since I'm worked on it. If I were to do it again, I would definitely make the music quieter.
Nice cows and calves
What i would give to be milking an farming again as i did when i was younger.
I lived on a farm in Scotland when i was a 9. I had lots of fun and miss it a lot, I'm 35 now.
43 yrs but a vehicle accident has stopped me from doing what i grew up doing.
Thanks Katie really is good if you can contact me about some information I need thanks

Milk parlor not milk house
Feeding a baby cow formula with a bottle because they aren't allowed to be with their mothers. What does that say about the industry?
The formula has everything they need. The only take the formula for so long until they are given water and feed just like any other cow.

Chris Cardoza they only need their momma milk for the first few days, but it’s whatever I reckon.
Seems pretty ridiculous to give a baby calf a "milk replacer", when they should be drinking the milk their mother naturally makes just for them. You know, the mother they were quickly ripped away from.
Just like you and your brain.

how many women breast feed their kids until they come off milk? few! very few!and we are suppose to be the smartest creatures around
Katie Prall why "we" need the mothers milk from another species??? Ever thought about?
laCinnab because it's a food full of nutrients more than likely your ancestors survived on it which ended up giving you life. If you are not happy about it go spout your nonsense on some vegan propaganda video.
Poor cows
Why do you say that? They are treated well and that's what milk cows are bred for. They looked well cared for to me. Nice operation they have going there. You must be a lettuce chomper.
Only have a farm if you actually care about the animals and won’t exploit them lol
