  • On March 5, 2016, LACMA, in association with the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles, presented Hercules, a dramatic reading the European art galleries. Inspired by the museum’s Hope Herakles (Hercules), a 2nd or 3rd century Roman marble sculpture of a Greek original, Italian writer Gabriele Tinti’s recently written poem presented the story of the hero and demigod of Greek mythology as sung through a lamentation by his son Hyllus. Noted actor Joe Mantegna, who takes great pride in his Italian heritage, read the poem to a rapt audience. Gabriele Tinti, who has composed poems for ancient works of art in other museums, was on hand for the reading.
