Welcome back to the farm! In today's video, we're excited to showcase our brand new Spudnik Dammer Diker, a crucial tool in our potato cultivation process. We'll take you through a detailed demonstration of how this impressive machine works, enhancing soil conditions and ensuring optimal growth for our potatoes.
But that's not all - we also have some dramatic footage of the crash that led us to get this new equipment. Watch as we share the story of what happened and how we bounced back stronger with the Spudnik Dammer Diker.
Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more farming updates and behind-the-scenes looks at our daily operations. Let's dig in!
I loved the explanation of the dammer diker, all of its intricacies and what it's purpose is since I am not familiar with potato farming. You do a fantastic job of that as well as the excellent drone clips at the end. You instantly get a sub from me and I feel I will be learning lots more from you about spuds and how they are farmed. And that accident was horrific!! I am certainly glad that no one was hurt any worse and are ok after that.
Well, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. I tried to explain things well and in a simple way because that’s how I understand things. Yeah I’m glad nobody got hurt in that wreck either. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.
@@RockyMountainFarmer You're welcome, have a great rest of your day and I look forward to the next video!!
I thought it (the dammer diker) made those perfect trapezoid furrows you see from the Nederland farming videos@@RockyMountainFarmer
good work farmer. good explanation too of the machine,
Glad you enjoyed it
I am amazed the guy did not get hurt.luck was with that crazy four wheeler.
Yeah, he was pretty lucky. 6 inches one way or the other and he would’ve died.
New viewer and I think your videos are awesome. Coming off a small farm as a kid in the 70s and 80s we grew potatoes in our large garden and it was a lot of work for the few bushels we produced each year. It is amazing at the technology you employ and the sheer volume of potatoes you are able to produce each year. In this video I'm glad you weren't hurt but that was a scary accident. No doubt the driver had a cell phone in their hand at impact.
I’m glad you are enjoying the videos. Growing potatoes is hard work. I’m glad no one was hurt as well.
Great video. Enjoyed learning about dammer/diker. Guy was lucky. Glad no one was badly hurt.
Glad you enjoyed it
You're good at this UA-cam stuff. Definitely an up and coming farm channel.
Wow, thanks. I have been trying hard to make a good Channel. Glad you’re enjoying it.
@@RockyMountainFarmer You do a really good job at bring a video together. Your biggest asset is the fact that you can talk to the camera over extended periods and really stumble over your words. Lots of people can't work without a script, but then when they have a script, they're still tripping over their words. Look at the other UA-cam farmers. If they can ramble into a camera while you're doing your work and keep a cogent thought, You're in business. Watch those guys, and you'll see a lot of this pattern. And you fit right in.
@@RockyMountainFarmer The other thing you bring is a different crop that can be far more intricate.
believe I saw a ladies only bar called the Dammer Diker somwhere up 95 😉
Oh dear
Great video and explanation of how everything works. I often wonder how the designers figured out how things would work.
That accident was pretty ugly. You would think that anyone driving through farm country would be a bit more alert to the possibility that there may be farm machinery on the road. I bet he or she is now!!
I’m glad you enjoyed the video and I’m sure it was hard to come up with the equipment to do these jobs. But I hope everybody pays attention on the roads because running into farm equipment is almost a death sentence. This guy was extremely lucky.
Glad you included the wreck footage I had watched the old video of it on you play list. I never had GPS but I loved cultivating spuds, sugar beets are much harder to do, first time through you had about 3 inches or you were destroying beets. We called that cultivator blight. One year we were harvesting beets and Bill was saying how crooked the rows were. Jose who had planted them just said "More beets per row!"
Glad you enjoyed the video. That’s pretty funny about the more beats per row thing, you might have less rows in your field but who knows haha.
I was in a bad wreck too back in the day. Only I was driving a 1995 Ford L9000 AeroMax dump truck. I learned to always have my headlights on after that day.
Yeah, that’s a good thing to do
Thank You for a geat video! I Moved to IF 4 years ago and always wondered what the purpose of the paddle wheels were on the back of the cultivators!
I’m glad I was able to show you something new.
Implement looks like it works as intended.
It sure does
Don't know how I've missed your channel. I'm from right down the road in poky.
It’s kind of funny there’s a lot of people even here in Shelley that have no idea, but I’m about to change that with advertising. Anyway, I’m glad you found the channel. I hope you enjoy it.
During soil preparation do you use deep ridge or not or only cultivated by dammer dyer after potato planting i like your GPS system which is too much effect it works good does gps use on any tractor or different tractors have different gps system do you spray weedicide or not and your drone shots are amazing you are good person that you realize the disadvantage of the accident of the previous year of the dammer dyer you take too much average 550 sacks every year you get yield below or above 500 or only previous year
We use a chisel plow to do our field prep before planting. All of our tractors have GPS that is John Deere brand, but I’m pretty sure all brands of tractors can get GPS through their dealers. We have somebody come through after we are done and they put down the herbicide. We usually try to shoot for 500 sacks to the acre last year was just a really good year. I’m glad you like the video.
Thank you! About 40 years ago Cora tried to pass me 4020 what’s the loader on it. It was Like a 17-year-old second and third car brand new. Nobody got hurt thankfully it
Thank you for showing what that looks like.
No problem! I’m glad you enjoyed it
Maybe add a couple of yellow strobe lights to the roof, to have on when roading the tractor?
I had my flashers on there’s six lights on my tractor that flash
Crash wooow that's quite something else, but I like your show 😊
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
@@RockyMountainFarmer your very welcome
That machine is a great idea.
Yeah, it works really well
Thank God you are ok. My Dad would say we can replace equipment but you we ca not.
Yeah, I was fine. The other guy had a few scratches but other than that he was OK too.
You should see how bad the traffic is up in the panhandle. Half of Seattle has moved here to escape Gov Inslee.
Yeah, I was up there a year or two ago and it was pretty bad
Those drone shots are great, thanks. Looks like you have a wind farm up on those hills at the back?
Yeah, those just went up last year and nobody’s very happy about it. Kind of ruined the view.
So educational, thanks
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching.
Ah another KIA driver!! LOL!
Haha
Who do you grow potatoes for? Someone I know plants for a potato chip company. In your area some plant for McDonalds and others for different restaurants.
Everyone grows for Simplot. McDonalds buys from them.
We grow for Idaho supreme in Firth all of our potatoes, will get made into potato flakes and sold and made into products like Pringles, mashed potatoes, and other things. We have never grown for Simplot. we did used to grow for lamb Weston, which made McDonald’s fries, but that was a long time ago
Another awesome video
Thanks I’m glad you enjoyed it
Great video what do you plant in taters about 3500 acres or so I'm guessing maybe you won't say and I'm good with that we used to raise a bunch of acres averaged anywhere from 250 to 300 sack to acre didn't know what your yield is but to fill 9 cellar got to be several acres 😊 great video
This year we planted almost 1300 acres. last year Our yields were about 550 sacks to the acre but that was above average. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
WOW 550 is a killer yield unheard of in the east
@@brian7327 This is Idaho. We got the fallout from all the volcanoes in Oregon and Washington. Carbon ash is great for growing anything.
@@tuberNunya yes, we are in Idaho and yes, we do have volcanic soil which makes really great potatoes
Great video! What kind of potatoes do uou grow?
I’m glad you liked it. We grow russet rangers.
@@RockyMountainFarmer awesome thanks for the reply.
How many days does the potatoes grow before harvest? Seeing other yt farmers talking about 105 day corn and 120 day beans
We start harvesting end of September so it takes about 4 1/2 months of growing which is around 135 days
Thank you@@RockyMountainFarmer
seeeeshhhh ..... that accident looks terrifying ! Again awesome droone footage at the end ! Question : does this make the sprayer lines bumpy-unstabile ? or you lift thoose up independently ? Other question : how many times and how much quantity of water do you use for irrigation ?
The guy we hired to do our spraying has never complained about the bumps, so it must not be that bad. As far as irrigation goes, we put between 1 to 3 inches of water down per week on the potatoes.
Also, I’m glad you like the video
🫡🫡 thank you ! Keep up the work ! #rideordie
I feel the same way about moving equipment 2 years ago ago a cop hit the sprayer and totaled it and had flagger infront and behind me and still I wake up shaking and now when I go to move any kinda equipment just a nervous wreck and the court battle from it was horrible and the officers tried to cover it up and blame me saying I had a dui and caused the accident but proving them wrong and dealing with all of it just made the accident worse
That sounds pretty bad. Glad everybody’s OK.
thanks to lemken you drive lots of european 9 feet equipment ;)
Yes, we love our lemken equipment. It does the best job that we’ve ever seen.
That many acres, why not get a 5 row too? Also why not put a spray boom on the back and do your spraying while cultivating?
Also thought it fun to see my house. 😂
I’m not sure why we have never put a sprayer on here and I’d rather have a six row than a five row
I worded that bad. I ment a 5 furrow or 4 row to make alternating passes between your 6 row so your damerdiker passes line up with your planter passes. That's the setup we run, with booms off the side of the 6 row damerdiker so it's spraying 12 rows per pass.
Some people are complete idiots, I was pulling a rod weeder that I bought from a farm auction home with my l9000 Ford grain truck, and was crossing a bridge, and got over as far as I could, and these people were at a stop sign cross road, and instead of waiting 20 seconds for me to cross the bridge they came on the bridge with me, and I was inches from scraping the side of the bridge with the shanks, and these idiots literally drove towards the center line of the road, and the shanks on the drivers side of the rod weeder, drug down the entire vehicle and shredded the vehicle, I told the police what happened they told the guy in the other vehicle that he was an idiot and that they were reporting that the accident was his fault, and I didn't hear no more, I did a Lil welding, put 3 new shanks on, and to this day I still summer fall with that rod weeder. I personally think the guy drove towards me to get insurance money, and he ended up getting a totaled rig, and no money
That is crazy. Yeah we have to be pretty careful. Some people just don’t think sometimes.
You run center pivot irrigation though?
Yes we have 35 of them and a lot of hand lines as well.
"That will buff out"
Haha right
How much of the 1,300 acres are owned by your farm v.s. leased?
This year we’re running about 3000 acres and we own probably 1800 of it.
@@RockyMountainFarmer Holy macaroni! That's a lot of ground to work!. Lol
@@sipdachery3 yeah, it’s a big job
Do they incorporate this into the planter?
I think there are some that do but we don’t have one
My question is, how could not see that thing going down the road?
Probably on his phone
How much seed you plant in one acre
23 sacks. And 1 sack is 100 pounds
Write the depth into on the tool its self.
That’s a good idea
Wow are people blind or what? Looks awsum out there! How far is your closes town? And no stones wow!
We are only 2 1/2 miles from the next town. Yeah I’m not sure how he didn’t see me.
@@RockyMountainFarmer I'm a potato grower myself here in nys..I'm pretty jealous of those huge fields! You just need water and you make a nice crop of potatoes?
Yeah, we have to have canals and pumps to irrigate everything
People can’t drive for love nor money these days! Always in a hurry or on the phone and not paying attention. The roads are FULL of idiots! What is y’all’s row width? 36” and 38” around here mostly. Two farmers in our country is on 40” rows. One happens to be my neighbor.
We have 36” spacing. Glad you enjoyed the video. People definitely need to pay more attention.
Just call it a Idiot Eliminator!! Didnt work that time , maybe next time
I hope not
As someone with a net worth of like $1000 it must be nice to have land as far as the eye can see coupled with ridiculously expensive machinery to work it all. I imagine there's no way you took out a loan on all that, it was probably handed down to you by your great great grandfather who bought it in 1856 for a like a dollar....
But anyways thanks for helping feed the world. At least you're working the land and not making a golf course out of it or something
Well, the farm was started in 1944, but it’s not like it’s free to farm once you have the land and equipment. we take out a massive operating loan every year. I hope you enjoy the channel.
The bot interaction in this comment section is REAL. Good Lord, ask the Bot company to have them say different things next time ... There are 1k comments EXACTLY THE SAME IN HERE. You aren't fooling anyone
I’m not sure what you’re talking about but I hope you liked the video. I personally respond to every comment.
@@RockyMountainFarmer I do like the video. But the bots are out of control.
Well I’m glad you like it. I’m not sure how to tell a bot account. The more comments the better tho.
Well I’m glad you like it. I’m not sure how to tell a bot account. The more comments the better tho.
I bet the next time that person sees a tractor coming down the road they’ll pull over to the ditch
People just need to pay closer attention. He was trying to pass me at an intersection that I was signaling to turn.
And that's why you shouldn't be able to road run this shit
Well, how else am I gonna get from field to field? The real reason for the accident is people need to stop texting and driving and pay attention
