Excellent how to video. The one to use for disassembly and re-assembly!!
I took my Leek apart and thought I had lost a part. Followed your video step by step and my Leek works great again. Good tip about the grease on the spacer. My leek had no grease at all in the spring pocket. I used some white lithium grease there as someone commented below. Thanks for taking the time to video and share!!

Leek is ingenious, but I prefer manual-opening (thumb stud, etc.), for giving control over the suddenness and noise of opening. Plus, who needs a knife that inevitably fails ever so often? (I have other, manual Kershaws that are wonderful.)

    Thank you for this video
I bought a Leek, when i was on holiday in Spain, for a very good price, but it didn`t flip proberly. So i thougt the Pivot screw was too tight. At home, when i disassemled it , with the help of your video, i found out, that there was no spring inside my knife.
I told this story to the Kershaw customerservice, so they send me a spring, for free, to my home in Austria.
That was very kind of them and with your help too, i now have a perfect working Leek.
    Markus

Markus Hofer Definitely good to hear. Kershaw and for that matter ZT have great customer service. Glad to here they sorted that out for you.

I'm no knife geek, but was OK with the Leek, then after a short time the torsion bar (spring) failed. To Kershaw's credit, they sent a replacement. One more argument for manual-opening knives.

Well-done and explained and shown including the 'why' of each step. My eyes and hands are too old to reassemble a stainless steel blade Leek that is complete. I did it once ... years ago and no more. If you can do it, I can mail you all the parts, but I no longer want to do the reassembly of a complete Leek...

I have the completely disassembled Leek knife, but do not know how to reassemble it. I can ship all the parts in a padded envelope, but do not know how to reassemble it. If you do and can ship it back, how much would you need to do that ?

Thanks bro. Took it apart and then , even with pictures by my phone, was unsure of washer placement. Appreciate your time.

My knife would not open all the way with the spring. I took it apart like you showed and it was super dirty. It's
    lightning fast now! Thanks!

I would suggest obtaining a liquid graphite to lubricate the blade and opening mechanism. FYI- That stuff in the handle is silicone grease, not petroleum jelly.

Best thing when your Leek's fancy torsion-bar fails, is to forget the nonsense and use the quick-opening thumb stud.

  • @christianh5839

Is there any way to remove the thumb pin? Knife regulations are crazy in Germany

    • @NeilTheKnifeGuy
      @NeilTheKnifeGuy  13 днів тому

@@christianh5839 unfortunately no... the thump pin also acts as the stop pin when open and stops the blade from hitting the backspacer when closed....

Frankly, Kershaw should have dispensed with the switchblade-type "assisted" opening, which is fun-flicking for teenagers watching TV, but realistically is pointless.

Great video. I have one question. When I go to unscrew the plot screw it just turns in the receiver part so it doesn't unscrew. Any suggestions. I've tried holding the receiver part with a pliers but it still turns. Thanks.

If you have a hair dryer you could try and heat the pivot area to losen up the lock tight.

    • @Damiendrops

I ran into this same problem. I even tried clamping it in a vice and jamming a jeweler's screwdriver between the receiver and the scale, and it was still impossible to loosen the screw. The only way it could be that tight is if the "assembler" cross-threaded it, which doesn't say much for their QC. I think the only options are: pay for the shipping to send it back and let them deal with it, or pretend it's not an assisted-open knife.

The Kershaw TX-Tool comes with five key bits made specially for adjusting or taking apart Kershaws knives, including the Leek, and there's no T-9 bit included, only T-6, T-8, T-10, plus a #2 Phillips and slotted screwdriver bits. The #10 bit fits perfect on the pivot screw of the Leek so I don't understand why are you using T-9? Just wondering!

BIG BEN the set I have the T9 bit fits perfectly and the t10 doesn't fit at all.

The pivot screw seat is almost nonexistent. I have two, one Damascus and one rainbow. They both have this design flaw.
The leek series is not a good choice.
