Back in April of this year (2024 for future reference), I converted back to Christianity after several years of private, secretive practice of Nordic Neopaganism. Before _that_ I was atheist, and before even that, I was somewhat Christian. The thing is, my family never taught me anything about Christianity, we never even went to church, and eventually I lapsed. Here's the thing, back in my pagan days, around the Christmas season, I'd pull up and listen to this exact song. Reawaken Hymns. I never paid any attention to the channel name, not even after I came back into the faith, until now. _Reawaken_ Hymns. It can't be a coincidence that UA-cam recommended a video by a channel called *_Reawaken_* Hymns to a lapse Christian. God is good. This is still my favorite hymn/carol of all time, and I'm glad I discovered it so long ago. God bless you sir, I hope you have a fantastic day. Edit since I missed some details: I attribute three things to my conversion: M meeting one of my "gods" I used to worship who ended up being a literal demon (If anyone is curious, it was Loki), a friend of mine, who is a son of missionaries no less, speaking to me about Christ when I came to a faith crisis in the wake of the demon visit, and finally, this song. The lyrics have stuck with me for so long and through so many seasons and ages of my life that the beginning two lines of the third stanza, which I have geeked out about in my other comment on this video, have essentially burned themselves into my head. The day I found this song was the day pagan me stopped hating Christianity for literally no reason. The day I understood it was the day I found God. Hallelujah.

They are fairly close to Wesley's original lyrics from 1739, though Wesleys original first line is "Hark how all the Welkin rings" (glad Whitefield changed that!). I believe the most common adaptation in use today is from the 1961 "Carols for Choirs". This is the adaptation which contains the lines "With the angelic host proclaim" and "Pleased as man with man to dwell". Is that the one you are referring too?

But I do think that version is older than the 1961. For instance, hymnary.org has scans of older hymnal pages including what I considered the now-common version. This page from a Moravian hymnal from 1920 includes the familiar four-line stanzas (but they're "upside-down") and some even more unfamiliar words in verse 3: hymnary.org/hymn/HLMC1920/page/286

Love your project. Not a fan of the changes to the song. It gets in the way of a congregation trying to worship, when it's already familiar with the traditional version. That would be fine if there was a theological or aesthetic payoff--but there isn't. Just my thoughts.

Yes, it is from Malachi 4:2, and is a reference to Jesus. I wanted that reference to be clear in the song so I choose to use Son instead of Sun
