For sure u can get by without knowing Sorani Kurdish in Erbil, actually most people who live in EBL know Kurdish, but there are a lot of people speak in Turkish as well for being the 2nd (formerly the 1st) most used language in the city , many people can speak in Arabic especially those whose age above 20 or even more! University students can understand English, but speaking is still a problem except a few (%30)! But the new generation is gonna solve this case in the future ..

Sorani is the official dialect of Iraqi Kurdistan region and not Kurmanji which is also widely spoken !!!
