    The standard for a crossfit pullup is to go from straight arms to chin above bar (these were actually chest-to-bar). The most efficient way to accomplish this is doing a butterfly kipping pullup (what you saw most of them doing) or a standard kip, in which you generate momentum with your hips. You're doing the same amount of work as a strict pullup (work = force * distance) but you're using more musculature to do so. This allows you to do more work over a shorter amount of time.

      Strict reps that actually target specific movement/muscles are superior to sloppy, shitty reps which are a waste of time.

      True.
      The argument many would say is "what about injuries" but there are less injuries in CF than any other sports such as football, soccer and basketball. And the injuries that often occur in CF is made from beginners being to eager.

    They are doing butterfly pullups they are intended for speed not for strength kipping pull ups you actually drop below the bar and use a up and down momentum to bring you to the bar as opposed to butterflys which use a circular momentum, crossfit is about doing the workout at a high intense but regulated pace

      crossfit is everything . endurance, balance, plyometrics, resistance training, calisthenics, olympic lifting. you could do a workout that includes building up to your 1 RM in squat cleans, and do muscle ups and Double Unders between sets.

      CrossFit always looks easier than it actually is. All of these exercises by themselves aren't very difficult, but strung together one-after-the-other, is very taxing cardiovascular-wise. Try it, and you'll discover what I mean. It's kind of like racing a marathon runner. You watch him go and you think "I can run faster than that!". The truth is you can, but you still have 26 more miles to go....

      @danj2373 10 років тому +1

      ***** They would last rather easily. They wouldn't win it, or even do well, but they could do it.
      Crossfitters literally couldn't compete at strongman.

    • @c3ramics
      @c3ramics 10 років тому

      Dan J
      obviously not, that's not what they train for. Aside from, that have you seen how big these guys are compared to real strongmen? Strongmen are massive and meant for a whole different type of competition; they aren't exactly the type to do burpees or pullups, but a lot of lifts are the same.

    • @danj2373
      @danj2373 10 років тому

      TheChrisRAWRS Look I wasn't saying high level crossfitters aren't good athletes. My point is that Strongmen could perform the movements in the Crossfit Games (with the possible exception of pull ups, depending on the strongman), but Crossfitters literally couldn't compete at the Worlds Strongest Man. The weight required is just far too much for them. Saying a strongman wouldn't last in this event is far less accurate than saying the opposite.

    • @c3ramics
      @c3ramics 10 років тому

      Dan J
      Yea man, of course they couldn't. But, the only validation to that is the fact that the weight strongmen work with is superhuman. As far as movements go, scale the weight down and anyone with the skill to carry out the lift could do it. Both strongmen and crossfitters hang snatch a dumbbell, but strong men do it with 250+ lbs. Strongmen could in fact do many of the workouts these guys do, but the only fair way to go about it is if these guys did strongman events scaled down to their strength level. No matter how hard they train, these men can never get into strongman level weights.
      More with your point, it would definitely be an easier transition for strongmen to do this since now they can work with weights that are way less than their warm-ups.

  • @marzbite
    @marzbite 10 років тому +6

    using your body swing and momentum for those "pull-ups" puts the pull-up definition in a different level, doing this way is obviously easier than doing dead pull-ups (the way I think you should correctly do them) with full stretch of the arm in both ends, I can probably do 20 per set, but the way these guys are doing it I think (and with all due respect) is not a clean way, yes you get muscle benefit, but you get too much help from the momentum and swinging, and it looks funny, sorry.
    I feel cross fit is a way to introduce common people to working out in an easier way, but making this a competition kind of defeat the purpose,

    • @mikel3093
      @mikel3093 10 років тому +2

      Having done both strict pullups and butterfly, i actually have more trouble with the butterfly because of the cardio it introduces. yes you're using momentum into the next pullup, but your generating that momentum. so yes they're faster and you still get the benefit. also, in this workout they are doing chest-to-bar pullups. in a normal strict pullup, you only need to get your whole head above the bar to make it count, for these to count your chest must touch the bar below the clavicle.

    • @marzbite
      @marzbite 10 років тому +1

      If you try to extend your arm completely straight when you go down and when you go up go all the way to the limit (muscle-up if you can) those are difficult pull-ups, not using momentum but doing them slow, I am not undermining the "butterfly" as you call them, but I personally don't get any stronger doing that style, is just like you mention, more of a cardio multiple exercise, as you get stronger cardio becomes part of any routine as you have more strength to do anything faster and clean, I am not in the philosophy to start easy, I like to start difficult and progress exponentially, I appreciate your intelligent comment, thank you.

    • @Bandyglen
      @Bandyglen 10 років тому +2

      It's a different kind of a pullup with cardio as a target. Yes, it is easier to do a butterfly pullup when you learn how to do it, but they are difficult to learn. Crossfitters do heavy loaded dead pullups aswell, the butterfly one is just a different way to look at it, not an easy way out. When you get a total of 400 reps to finnish of 4 difficult excersises, you dont do the dead hang pullup because you NEED to finnish fast. So in an event like this, it's all about the cardio, you dont build strength doing kipping pullups, you build it with the dead hang ones, then you use that strength to kill the timer when you have to do the quick butterfly ones.

    Say what you want, everyone has a "unique" viewpoint. In a world full of self centered narcissistic mirror hugging tools out for themselves, you see a sport where the top competitor is right their cheering on his fellow competitor after he finished. People bash CrossFit, fine have fun with that. How do you have the tallest building in the world? You either tear down everyone else's building or you build a taller building. Ones easier and is usually the path taken by the small minded and lazy.

    "Oh look at me. I'm a bodybuilder. I practice no functional movements. Therefore, my training is completely useless in the real world. I'm also fat 11.5 months out of the year".
    Btw, Rich Froning is about 200lbs. And if any of them are around 170lbs, it's because they are relatively small. Look at Dan Bailey. He's jacked, but he's only 180lbs because he's only 5'7".

    Putting the leaders in the middle (like swimming) is not a positive. There is a reason they do it in swimming, having to do with center lanes having an advantage in the water (and earned by previous heat times). Crossfit should go back to what they used to do by having the leaders in the number 1 spot.

    Is that why Rich Froning has a 300 pound snatch and 385 clean and jerk which are pretty close to Olympic weights? but yet he can also run 5k's easy and do tons of pull ups which most big Olympic weight lifters can't do because they are to big? please explain that

    the athleticism demonstrated at these games is uncanny...but on a side note; I wonder why there are so many commercials for "female booty workouts" when I haven't seen any other program that has produced more lifted and ROUND gluts than Crossfit. The research is already done and proven.

    The winner of this workout in the Africa regional had 44 reps left when time expired and 12 athletes finished the workout in this regional, I guess some of these guys should move to Africa.

    Kinesio tape. From the net: it can alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, relax muscles, enhance performance, and help with rehabilitation as well as supporting muscles during a sporting eve
