    I put in a bury hydrant when we first moved here nearly 30 years ago and it came with really good instructions. They said to put on a 1' or longer piece of tubing and then put in a gravel bed about 2 ft. long. There are 1/8" pipe threads in the weep hole.

    I've had hydrants last 20-30 years. The exposed pvc might become brittle from UV during that time so perhaps paint it with latex paint or something known to be compatible with pvc and provide UV protection.

    We hook a pressure washer to our hydrant and for the past year the pressure has been very low. Water comes out normal when it is turned on. The hydrant was installed in 2016 and always had good strong pressure when we used the pressure washer. Could it be clogged somewhere or a crack in the line? Water pressure at the house is fine.

    I've got an Iowa faucet, it will not turn on. The handle moves freely, but nothing comes out, any idea what the issue could be?

    My hydrant doesn’t drain down the way it used to. Every time I turn it on or open it, water comes out right away. Is there any way I can apply pressure into it with a compressor to clear out that drain valve?

    • @easychangeyardhydrant1641
      @easychangeyardhydrant1641  2 роки тому +1

      yes u can apply "short term " fix to get thru winter ??use compressed air or water pressure ~~~ unfortunately ??if weep hole is stopped with lil roots or dried mud r problem only long term is re-work drain field

    • @easychangeyardhydrant1641
      @easychangeyardhydrant1641  2 роки тому +1

      it may fix long term if sand from well is only problem

      @@easychangeyardhydrant1641. I finally ended up replacing the hydrant. Couldn’t clear out the weep hole using compressed air. Used the bucket and gravel method.

    My hydrant wasn't working. Pulled off head and found that plunger had come off. Got it out, reattached and it still would not allow any water out of the head but it does come out of the weep hole. Not sure if someone had previously replaced plunger and it's wrong one. Or do you think the port that allows water to flow around plunger is clogged or rusted shut? That's the only thing I can imagine. Even if I pull the plunger all the way out I get water flow out the drain hole but none out of the pipe. I can imagine there's just not enough pressure with the weep hole leaking, but seems like it would come out some. Those weep holes look small and pipe is only about 3 feet above weep hole. I don't use it much and I'd like to get it working but such a pain to dig out.

    After 7 years mine froze and broke/ split the pipe. Now I know want happened. No drainage. It also has a bush growing around it.
    Not looking forward to replacing/digging it out.

    I have one of these Monitor faucets and the handle has gotten hard to open and close. It’s probably 2 - 2 1/2 years old. Any suggestions for loosening the handle.

      There are rubber bushings that the rod slides through. You could take it apart, remove the rod and polish the rod with some fine steal wool where it slides through the bushing (or replace the rod) and ideally replace the bushings. Parts should be available from the manufacturer. As a quick fix you could try spraying silicone lubricant around the the rod and bushings while working the handle up and down.

      Thank you very much. I had wondered about trying the silicone but was uncertain. I’ll give that a try first.

    2 cubic yards? of drainage gravel below your hydrant???? 2 cubic yards??? Really?
    Is that the minimum amount you'd recommend. That's a lot of gravel

    Plunger came off and stuck? Buy a hole hole saw the same diameter as the inside of the pipe and a piece of all thread that will screw into hole saw. BE CAREFUL not to drill into brass past plunger. Turn water on to flush out any shavings in pipe. This will clean off any rust build up also.
