Ooooo I loved how you said toward the end that if you're feeling more stress/obligation to reading vs. wanting to read, then something need to be evaluated. Yes. Accurate.

I track how many books I read on goodreads and I don't really feel pressure because I personally still count a book as read even if I dnf it.

Have you read "An Ember in the Ashes"? That and the second book which came out in 2016 are two of my favorite books of all time now.

Not yet. That's one of the many books/series on my radar that I'll hopefully get to eventually. Haha.

so much wisdom. i am attempting 100 books in 2017 kinda rethinking that now XD. quantity over quality is not something to prioritize but it tends to happen. i sometimes get stressed that im not reading fast enough to be able to read everything i want. i don't know why i can never get in my head that i will never finish my tbr and that's okay. this is a topic i constantly think about. hopefully one day i can stop stressing about the number.

I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with setting the goal, so long as you don't allow it to become THE thing that you focus on. It's entirely possible that I will read 100 books in a year again, but if I do it, it'll happen because I have the desire and the inclination to be reading enough to do that. If not? No big deal. I think it's good to challenge yourself (which was the original motivation for choosing 100 books as a goal), but when the goals start to become THE thing, that's when there's an issue. :)

sarahannereads again so much wisdom. i totally agree and I'll keep that in mind. i have a feeling reading 100 books in the year might not be too hard now that I listen to audiobooks on a daily basis. i am amazed on how many times during the day I could be reading without physically reading. that will be totally awesome to read 100 books in the year without even trying. hope u accomplish that one year. i feel like that's more of an accomplishment if that happens. that means all the books u were reading were so good u kept reading more!

I once set myself a large reading goal and learned exactly what you learned. Something I loved became a stressful obligation. I was reading books because they would be a quick read rather than something I knew I would enjoy. And the ones I was enjoying I had no time to savor. And then once I hit the goal I became so burned out from reading that I don't think I picked up another book for 3 months.... So no more goals like that for me. I read what I want, when I want, because I want to :) Also, I agree -- Having multiple series' is stressful!

The post-giant-reading-goal burnout is real! I barely finished two books in January, which is abnormal for me even before making that giant reading goal. I'm slowly starting to get back into a groove, but man...so much burnout.
