Thanks for the tips! But I have one more question in my head. What is the healthiest way to store my mavic 2 pro batteries? Should I charge them after each flight till 100 percent or should I leave them around 65 to 50 percentage of charges?
Thanks for this video, it has very helpful information I did not know before. I have two questions, According to the Dji air 2 manual the batteries are at 5% when in hibernation mode. 1) Do you know how long before the hibernation mode 5% charge gets completely depleted (months or years) on store shelves. 2) Do your advice primarily for the drone batteries apply to the remote control battery as well. I would greatly appreciate your response.

hi Drone Valley thank you 4 your video contain and your good info about the batteries .i bought a mavic air 2 from a friend he said he just use it 30 munits fly and it was stored for more than 1 year dosnt turn on so my question is that damage the 3 batteries and what do you advice me to do first discharge them all before use or just use them normaly "sorry my english is not that good if you didnt well unerstood me" and thanks i will wait for your advices :)
What recommended percentage should you store the battery at if your going store the drone for a while. Also what’s considered too long to store a battery for without using it.
always great info, I've been spending a few hours putting many of my "dumb" batteries in storage charge for winter conditions, then lipo bag inside my ammo boxes. Just ain't bringing 30 or so lipos into my house for winter, just my higher-end quads. Since I'll still be flying those anyway. Thanks again.
What about long term storage if your not flying, should you charge your batteries every so often or just leave them until you need them next before charging?
And it is also recommended after each 20 charge cycles to discharge the battery below 8%. Let it cool down and charge it fully to 100%. Then I discharge it to 60% before I store it. I don't wait until the self discharge kicks in. I don't fly that much, but would like to keep the battery for a while.
Only 2 rules for long time storage: The charge should be around 30% and store it in a cool place. A lot of the rules people still apply are from old, completely different, battery technologies.

Thanks for taking the time to put this video together. I've heard that you should "deep cycle" your battery every so often meaning run it down till it turns off and then recharge. Is that something you need to do regularly or just when cells are uneven? Lastly are you suppose to store batteries at around 40-50%? Thanks
That doesn’t apply to these lithium batteries. You’ll want to try limiting discharge to 20% when possible. In fact, less than 80 and over 20 is best. Yes, long term storage at 50% is suggested, but check up on them as they’ll drain over time.

Just ordered my first drone - Mavic 2 Pro arrives on Tuesday :-), so very happy to find your channel. Really useful content. Thanks for taking the time to put these together.
I have been keeping up with Rick's channel for several years. I have been waiting for the right drone to come out and it did. It's the Mavic 2 Zoom. I have had mine for about a month. I purchased some brand new extra batteries from DJI when I purchased my drone in July 2019 that I have never charged or used, (they show no charge). I still want to keep them unused until my existing batteries need to be changed. Can unused new batteries be left in this condition - I know that once they have been charged they need to be regularly maintained per DJI recommendations but I cannot find any guidelines for brand new batteries.
Great video. I a;ways check the temperature of the batteries themselves before charging them. I never charge them if their temperature is above 75 degrees F. Hint; I check the temperatures with a laser thermometer on at least 3 sides of the battery. The bottom side is the most important as that's the side with the thinnest layer of plastic between the battery itself and the thermometer.
Quick one for you rick... Ive had a battery in store for 6 weeks, ive then woke it with the charger and charged it.. Now i have to sort something can I connect to it to decharge (p4p and in progress of making this) as 1 cell is lower than the other 3.. It can not be put into the phantom and decharged as the app turns the motors off and says " battery problem"
A Little off the battery subject: I saw somewhere that you can take several still shots, have the Mavic 2 combine them to get a picture that is equal to a 42mp camera. Am I right on what I saw? If so where do you go to do this?
Hey Rick great info. This clip couldn't come at a better time. I live in Buffalo NY and getting ready to put my drone in storage for the winter. I know your into the Dji Mavic but, was wondering if you can do a clip on the proper way to store a P4P battery for a full season. I know the intelligent systems are similar but P4P batteries are bigger batteries. I have done some research from Dji to you tube videos and it seems every one has different procedures for the process. I would really like your opinion. One more thing is there a charging brick for P4P batteries and where can I get them.....Thanks
U ROK DUDE ! ...(always full of concise info in a super nerdy simplistic manner) keep it up !.... really appreciate it and what you've taught me with your vids. Thanx
My hardly used Mavic Air batteries one chages and is usable the other two will not charge on cradle or directly just green light changing to red light on cradle. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks Rick! Can you comment on battery long term charging care. Most lipos require about 80% charge for long term storage. DJI has info on the mav2 batts stating that they discharge themselves after so many days ?? It would be great to have a clip on the new batteries and how they take care of themselves. Thanks Mike W
first respect for the video~ 2 i have some questions .. i have a phantom 3 pro ... and the batery work ok .. but at flight when its going lov % 30% its going hot .... 62 celcius !! its that normal ??? and when is normal how much can goo high temperature ??? and how much can i flye life time of one batery ?? my its 33 chargin times and how charging times can i flye ? . sorry for my bad englis langunge /// respect from Montnegro MNE :)
In Canada, the onset of winter, combined with draconian flight restrictions in some communities means that we get to do less flying. With 3 batteries in the Mavic 2 fly more package charged up, can I just leave them for long periods or should I be trying to use them so that they drain and recharge on a fairly regular basis?
Peter Norman I know that with the phantom 3, you can't leave the batteries at 100% for more than 24 hours. If storing the battery for 1-3 days, it should be left at a maximum of 80%. If storing for more than 3 days it should be left at a maximum of 65%. And if not being used for a long period, it needs at least one charge cycle every three months. I don't know about the Mavic 2 batteries, but the maintenance may be similar since they are both DJI. You'd want to find out for definite, but what I said should be the general idea.
I believe I read somewhere that it's not a good idea to take a short flight and after a while take another flight on the same battery. They said they should be drained on a single use. Is this proper advice or no big deal?
james R. - as always it depends on the voltage and percentage available. Inspire 1 batteries, I found, a good test of those batteries (after sitting for some time), was to make a full ascent move. That high load would change the voltage severely in a battery that needed to be charged - and was not true to the original read out. Fast and easy “test”. BUT to answer your question it’s fine to do so.
I keep/store my batteries around 50% if I’m not going to fly within a month or so. When I’m ready to fly, I charge fully. I then like to run down to 12 to 15% in flight. My battery health has been great using this method.
This information works for all Autel batteries also I have had my batteries for over 2 years now without any problems I did lose one battery during a update but Autel replaced it no charge. Great information thankyou!!
Rick , great video as always, But what about :How often should we do a full drain by turning on the battery and letting it sit till it powers down. Then re charge. I heard we should do this one a year. My GF was talking to me in the middle of this video so maybe I missed it. Ill resart vid and listen for that tip once again. If not Included. Please let us "me" know please. Thank you
Very useful video Rick. Currently I have a product called the Omni Ultimate. You might have heard of it. I have my dc output set to 17.6V @ 3.41a. Should I raise this to 4.5A? I saw your video of the 6 in 1 charger. I see that outputs 17.6 @ 4.5A per output.
Not sure if that was already discussed but was wondering what you think about these rapid charging stations that charge 3-4 batteries within an hour. You mentioned that the DJI batteries have build in intelligence assuring proper charge and cell leveling. How does this work in combination with the rapid chargers? Will they damage the DJI batteries over time? What's your recommendation?
I left my "charging block" connected to a new Mavic battery, with the battery turned off and no USB accessory connected, for a few days and it completely discharged the battery to a point where it couldn't be recharged. I thought, mistakenly, that as long as the battery was not activated, it wouldn't discharge with the block connected. wrong. Sure wish DJI had mentioned that in what they call a manual. You can call a battery "intelligent" but that says little about its instinct for self-preservation. Good tips as always, Rick... thanks!
Rick, say, I have fully charge my DJI mini battery, ready to go. Now it starts raining for a week. Can I keep the battery fully charged? Or ---- THANKS RICK
Great tips! That charging adapter is one of the more underrated accessories. If you have phone charging enabled in the app your controller batteries may not last as long as you'd like. You can carry a portable battery bank just in case, but this does the same thing and takes up less space in your bag.
My volts at zero was 3.73-3.78-3.76-3.76-3.78-3.80 with total capacity 4154 , When I left it on at zero for ages 3.73 went down to 3.67 and turned orange and 3.80 went down to 3.78
However, storage tips short-term and long term would be useful. Ie Is it preferable to just leave them at the 20% area, post flight, then charge just before next flight.
Rick, thanks for taking the time to make this video on proper care of dji batteries! I have been flying drones for a long time, but without exception learn something new every time I watch your reviews! Keep those great clips coming, and by the way, I don’t mind at all how long they are! For me, the more detail you can provide, the better! Until next time...😃🛩
Rick, what kind of information could you share on flying the drone in conditions, either extreme cold or extreme heat? I flew my Mavic Air in heat over 100 degrees this summer and it game me all kinds of error messages. It had to take it out of the air before it did anything crazy. I haven't had an opportunity to fly in the extreme cold yet, but I'd like to know what sort of things I could do to mitigate the risk to my drone and to public safety, while I'm flying. I'm assuming that the processor in the drone was overheating when I flew in 100+ degrees, but it would be interesting to hear your take on how to mitigate risk when flying in extreme conditions, or weather it is safe at all. I look forward to hearing your response :)
I'm not Rick but I flew my Mavic Air in the Alps above 3000m high (10000 feet) with -10º C (15º F) and had absolutely no problem. The drone, controller and battery were stored in my backpack (in my back), so they were not particularly protected against cold but, as a reference, a water bottle in the backpack will not freeze even at temperatures below freezing (probably the water sloshing helps in staying liquid). Funny enough, I had issues with the collision sensors being tricked by the snow/sun reflection and stopping abruptly mid-air to avoid collision with nothing.
Ken Haynie - In Florida summer ‘s I get iPad mini 4 “overheating” warnings and occasional aircraft over temperature alerts. There are cooling pads for the iPad. As far as the bird, I found that gentle use would allow flights to continue. Just my experiences. COLD plays havoc on my Inspire batteries and flights are short if you don’t warm them first. There are battery stickers from DJI that you apply, that are meant to protect it from getting too cold, too fast. Flying warms the battery but you must start with it warmed up.
Thanks Rick this is a great video with a lot of very valuable information, I always get Happy when I see I got notified that you put out a new Video. Again Thanks so much
Love your clips Rick. I have a Phantom 4 standard. I have the Phantom 4 charger for my batteries which I have a total of 3 batteries which is exactly what the charger accommodates. My question is that switch the charger to "storage mode" and I've read that if I am not going to fly for say several months (ex. Winter time) I should definitely put the charger in that mode as it will keep it at a 50% charged level rather than keeping the mode to "full charge" vs. storage mode, or not putting the batteries in the charger at all but read that in that mode it will continue to drain the battery below 50% and shortens the life of the battery. Your thoughts Rick (or anyone else's) on this and/or is this correct information that I have read??? Thank you in advance.
Hi, I wrote you a few months back regarding my Mavic Pro Batteries ! I had one that failed with a faulty cell after something like 6 charges and 10 mins total flight time and DJI replaced that free of charge! A few weeks later I had a similar problem with another pro battery saying the same thing “ faulty cell” and sometimes when I try it works no problem then the next time it fails, so I dare not fly with it! I contacted DJI and as the battery was over 6 months old they didn’t want to know and told me to buy a new battery! The same again after a very small time flying and only a few charges! And as you can imagine I wasn’t to happy! But just let me say that I Do Look After my equipment and my drones still looks Brand New, so do all the other equipment! Because I care about them! Anyway what I’m getting to is....... what you say about fully depleting the battery then getting it charged fully could it help my problem? And sort this battery? 5 or 6 charges, and 10 mins flight time and £85.00 a time could be an expensive hobby for a pensioner! Thanks for any feedback! Dave in the UK, keep up the good work with what you do.
I know you're more into the DJI and drones that are pretty much intelligent. Have you ever thought of looking into drones that can be flown indoors over the winter? Basically known as Tiny whoops or small fpv quads. I actually think it would improve flying skills as well as allowing you to be able to fly indoors during the winter. Just a suggestion as always cool video great info thanks.
Hi Rick great video well done love your channel. Could you answer a question I have I have 4 Mavic 2 zoom batteries and when I am out for a days flying I usually run my batteries down to 25 -30% I might not be going out for flying for a few weeks later because of weather etc is there a certain percentage of charge that you have to store your batteries over this time so they are not over charged or under charged? I would appreciate your help in this area thanks 👍👍🇬🇧
Hi Top Show, i have a battery for my mavic 2 which tells me now and again that it is is not located correctly but when i check it it is located properly, i have 4 batteries but this one is the only one that says this, i have checked the connectors the battery all seems ok, any ideas, i don't use it at the min.
Hi Above, i already have, just i already had warranty issues with a charger hub that had a broken guide pin when i opened it from new, they said i had caused the damage , it took many emails to get them to give me a new one, but would not accept that it was delivered like that, now i have to send this battery back and I'm expecting the same trouble, i have stopped buying direct from DJI for this reason, i have found a local DJI approved supplier and they are cheaper than DJI. thanks for the reply..
Great video Rick. When you have time we could use a video on how and when we need to check and update firmwear on the batterys. I've heard sometimes we might need to but have not anything on how or what to do.
I have been flying my p4p+ drone without any issues for about 8 months but last week my 3 batteries started to give me a "Battery Error" on the controller. It sometimes happens midflight or from the moment I turn the power on. I usually take the battery out of the slot and insert it again making sure to press a bit more in case of a connection problem. Most of the time it solves the problem temporarily so I can take off. But the battery error message usually reappears shortly after during the flight. I wouldn't like to push my luck too far. Anyone who experienced the same and found a solution to this?
@@knife-wieldingspidergod5059 after a quick check there is no cell under/over voltage on all the batteries. I note that when it occurs, if I press a bit more on the battery the error goes away. It is most probably a connexion issue.
Love you clips, even the longer ones :-) To what percentage must the batteries be charged after flying when they are not going to be used within a month or so? Charge then half or charge them full and discharge to 50% or...?
I have a tb47 battery that will only charge up to 3 lights, I've ran it down to 8% and re charged it but the cell still bad, should I run it down to zero and try it?
That's a great question and I have done the "reset" on all my other batteries except for my Inspire 2 so I can't say for sure if it reacts the same way. I'd assume that it does but can't confirm it without trying it first.
Fly Vue Drones - Lowest I’ve ever had the nerve to go down to was 5% but DJI does say 0% and or running quad till it shuts down and won’t start up again. I’d still like to know if people are actually going all the way to Zero!!
I have passed by the Spring Branch School's base ball field/football field the other day. I was looking for a new place to fly. This is a big place with plenty of room. I noticed the Spring Branch Police station next door so I went in and told them I had a little quad-copter or what some people a drone. I wanted to get more flying time in and wanted to know if they would mind if I come and fly it when there is not one around. They said no problem. Just don't fly it over a baseball game or football game. I told them no problem there. They gave me a business card showing there permission for me to fly there. It's better to ask than ask for forgiveness in this case. People who know about drones and the benefits they can be seem to understand. Just don't do anything stupid and use good judgement.
2 tips..When the battery is fully charged, take it off the hub, and never ever bring your battery down lower than 20%. They will last a very long time.
Dji recommends in the app to only bring the batteries down to 8% every 20 cycles to calibrate the cells So once at 20 cycles Once at 40 cycles Once at 60 cycles Etc The batteries (at least p3) will refuse to charge once they hit 200 cycles

The best thing to do is to try to find a better company than DJI. No matter what you do there batteries swell and are worthless. And the CCP is making use of the drone to start with.
Jim, thanks for the post but I respectfully disagree. DJI is currently producing the best drones ever built in every category they compete and most other companies are simply copying their innovation. As for the China nonsense, don't believe the hype. There is no way that anyone can "spy" through a consumer drone. It's technically impossible and even if it was possible, the details they could gather are already avialable on google and from satellites. Tons of drama around this topic, but very little common sense.
TIP #6) ON AN AIR 2S AFTER 5 DAYS OF NON USE THE BATTERYS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BLEED DOWN TO 60%. AND GO INTO STORAGE MODE. DJI SAYS THIS IS TO PREVENT SWELLING OF THE BATTERY CASE. THIS WILL RUIN YOUR DAY IF YOU GO OUT TO FLY THINKING YOU HAVE A FULL CHARGE BUT YOU DON'T.
Thanks for the post and this is a safety feature that DJI builds into all of their batteries to protect the Lipo chemistry. It's a good thing and will really extend the life of your cells.
Hey Rick, how are the Holystone and other non DJI batteries to be cared for?

I saw somewhere that you can take several still shots, have the Mavic 2 combine them to get a picture that is equal to a 42mp camera. Am I right on what I saw? If so where do you go to do this?
D Hansel Think that is a piano shot. But I do remember reading that too.
Thanks explaination
U ROK DUDE ! ...(always full of concise info in a super nerdy simplistic manner) keep it up !.... really appreciate it and what you've taught me with your vids. Thanx
My hardly used Mavic Air batteries one chages and is usable the other two will not charge on cradle or directly just green light changing to red light on cradle. Any help would be appreciated
I dropped one battary of my dji mavic mini from almost 4 feet height does it cause damage to may battary please reply what should I do.
Great information, thank you. Happy Flying
Question, will the battery protectors you advertise also Fit the Mavic2?
This information works for all Autel batteries also I have had my batteries for over 2 years now without any problems I did lose one battery during a update but Autel replaced it no charge. Great information thankyou!!
Rick , great video as always, But what about :How often should we do a full drain by turning on the battery and letting it sit till it powers down. Then re charge. I heard we should do this one a year. My GF was talking to me in the middle of this video so maybe I missed it. Ill resart vid and listen for that tip once again. If not Included. Please let us "me" know please. Thank you
Bill14886 - DJI says after 20 cycles, if that’s what you’re asking.
Thanks for the tips, great videos!
Rick, tks for your time and your Knowledge, regards.
Great tips! That charging adapter is one of the more underrated accessories. If you have phone charging enabled in the app your controller batteries may not last as long as you'd like. You can carry a portable battery bank just in case, but this does the same thing and takes up less space in your bag.
What about the mavic mini battery ?
My volts at zero was 3.73-3.78-3.76-3.76-3.78-3.80 with total capacity 4154 ,
When I left it on at zero for ages 3.73 went down to 3.67 and turned orange and 3.80 went down to 3.78
This is some good to know information. I’m an old school RC guy and this is some good info right here. Thanks Rick!
Very useful. Thank you.
Good upload thanks
However, storage tips short-term and long term would be useful. Ie Is it preferable to just leave them at the 20% area, post flight, then charge just before next flight.
Brilliant advice Rick 😉.
Loved the vid, great help.
Until next time...😃🛩
Trying to find the charging accessories to charge your phone but can't find it on your site ...what is the full name please...!
Great tips on looking after your batteries! Many thanks for sharing the info Rick :)
Thanks for the helpful tips
Hi,This is Rudolph Jaghoo from Trinidad I love watching your videos they are very interesting keep up the good work.
Good stuff. Very useful discussion.
your content is great!!! thank you for all the instructions and tips!
Good stuff! I may have to be ordering from you again 😊
Thanks Rick this is a great video with a lot of very valuable information, I always get Happy when I see I got notified that you put out a new Video. Again Thanks so much
Thank you so much!
Love the long videos
Good length. Good tips. Tks.
Thanks so much
Hi, I wrote you a few months back regarding my Mavic Pro Batteries !
Great chanel. Amazing content
Good tips.cheers mate
Rick all ways so help full excellent video brother 👌
always, helpful
Hi Rick great video well done love your channel. Could you answer a question I have I have 4 Mavic 2 zoom batteries and when I am out for a days flying I usually run my batteries down to 25 -30% I might not be going out for flying for a few weeks later because of weather etc is there a certain percentage of charge that you have to store your batteries over this time so they are not over charged or under charged? I would appreciate your help in this area thanks 👍👍🇬🇧
Thanks Rick!
Great video Rick! Thanks for sharing :)
Many thanks for the useful tips Rick! 👍👌✌
7:04 you throw it where?
Hi Top Show, i have a battery for my mavic 2 which tells me now and again that it is is not located correctly but when i check it it is located properly, i have 4 batteries but this one is the only one that says this, i have checked the connectors the battery all seems ok, any ideas, i don't use it at the min.
Royston James - probably should contact DJI on this b4 time passes and they don’t want to cover it.
Thanks for the great tips! I have an MA, could you tell me how/where I could get some end cap protectors? Thanks again. Ray 👍😊
Yes, recently I have to toss one of my P4P battery due to one of the cells is under voltage causing battery error on the GO App.
@@knife-wieldingspidergod5059 after a quick check there is no cell under/over voltage on all the batteries. I note that when it occurs, if I press a bit more on the battery the error goes away. It is most probably a connexion issue.
We need a video on DJI simulation software
Amazing tips and precautions for someone have with them batteries, i love your channel , hugs my friend and all the best !!!!
Love you clips, even the longer ones :-)
To what percentage must the batteries be charged after flying when they are not going to be used within a month or so? Charge then half or charge them full and discharge to 50% or...?
I have a tb47 battery that will only charge up to 3 lights, I've ran it down to 8% and re charged it but the cell still bad, should I run it down to zero and try it?
That's a great question and I have done the "reset" on all my other batteries except for my Inspire 2 so I can't say for sure if it reacts the same way. I'd assume that it does but can't confirm it without trying it first.
Drone Valley I might as well try it because it is no good otherwise, so run it down flat then to zero?
Fly Vue Drones - Lowest I’ve ever had the nerve to go down to was 5% but DJI does say 0% and or running quad till it shuts down and won’t start up again. I’d still like to know if people are actually going all the way to Zero!!
Drone Valley - You have taken them down to Zero percentage?
Above and Beyond I took it down to
Zero and it stayed on but the cells kept dropping a little but the first cell was still 8 out
I have passed by the Spring Branch School's base ball field/football field the other day.
I have two batteries with bad cells that i cannot seem to fix so i just use them to charge my cell phone as a portable charger
5:17 Whoever places a battery/terminal facing down on grass/dirt shouldn't be flying any drones at all.
Oh yea , I thought at 1st you were saying Air conditioners. LOL. instead of error conditions.
Bill14886 - Me Too!!
2 tips..When the battery is fully charged, take it off the hub, and never ever bring your battery down lower than 20%. They will last a very long time.
Dji recommends in the app to only bring the batteries down to 8% every 20 cycles to calibrate the cells
So once at 20 cycles
Once at 40 cycles
Once at 60 cycles
Etc
The batteries (at least p3) will refuse to charge once they hit 200 cycles
