1999 beats this one because nobody will win a European Cup Final with two goals in two minutes. This 2005 final had an insane 6-minute comeback but there was still football left to be played. 1999 was just snatched away from Bayern in the blink of an eye.

We deserved to win that match, but in 6 minuted we wasted a victory. Liverpool believed in the victory more than us, congratulations for that comeback. That night i have cried. Sorry for my bad English, i'm italian.
But this brought us huge huge excitements in 2007. I'm an azzurri fan so also moved by Italy's won in the wc final in 2006. We needed the lost to be champions, i think
me too.....my wife and I were travelling to Portugal with our young son for a holiday the afternoon of the final and when we landed I saw two of the security guys at Faro airport watching the kick off in a small office as we waited to get through customs...we were met by a friend who we were staying with and his house was over an hour's drive from the airport...by the time we got to his house and had dinner and a drink I'd completely forgotten about the game...when I finally remembered I ran to the TV and asked his to put the game on..he didn't like football but found a local channel showing the game..when it came on the penalties were just about to start...and that was it...I ended up lying on the floor in tears....I missed the whole game but got to see Liverpool win it.......it was a long night !

As a Leeds fan, this is one of the best footballing memories I have. Watched it with my older brother who is a Liverpool fan, and we were both almost unable to even talk at the end of it. What a game. What history.

Steven was truly a hero. Look how he was pumping inspiration into the team when it seemed impossible to win. I'd have honestly given up if I was at the scene. Being a captain aint about skills, strength, or speed - it's about heart.
Gerrard's reaction after the first goal defines the connect Liverpool players and the fans share, which is to say YNWA emotion so clear there. The confidence in each other. Just one of a kind club. ❤
I literally cannot imagine the pressure, the intensity from Liverpool that night.. Walking down that Player Tunnel and right next to them they can see names like Kaka, Seedorf, Gattuso, Maldini, Dida, Sevchenko.
I support AC Milan since I was a little boy. I live here not so far from our stadium. I remember any single moment of this final, I was 23 at that time. I remember exactly the moment in which I was preparing to go out to celebrate the victory, I got out on my motorcycle and started the engine to warm it up, before the end of the match and before being able to rejoice in the various squares and streets that I would encounter along this unexpected tour. Then everything changes. I am Italian and I believe that the thing that is correct and the lesson that I learned is that we must give credit to others and that football is unpredictable... subsequently in 2007 it would have been ours. Great respect for Liverpool and the all teams that give us emotions. Thank you
I remember watching this game live , to this day it’s still one of THE greatest finals ever played in my opinion. One of Gerard’s greatest games too . That double save by dudek was incredible
Reading Fan. Gerrard, the greatest player to not win a Premier League title, but this one was so amazing to watch back in the day, a truly class player, a lot of people mock him for "The slip" but, personally, I was so heartbroken for the guy, I'd like to see Liverpool win the league soon.
@Pep's Disciple Guess who shouldn't have won the CHL in 2009, 2011 and 2015 then? :D Alves, Busquets, Alba, Neymar, Sanchez, Umtiti and sadly Mascherano and Suarez. Especially 2009-2012 was bad, but oh well got those trophies.
Mission Impossible is accomplished!! Goosebumps everytime I watch this. I was 15 years old when I watched this final. Became a lifetime fan of Liverpool and Gerrard.
Strong squad? Are you on drugs? The legend Steven Gerrard carried that team, like he did his whole career. Liverpool had average teams for Gerrard whole Liverpool era. Gerrard would have had 15-20 trophies if he had played in a team like Chelsea had or Real Madrid or Ac Milan had. He was the catalyst, the boss. Without him, they lose that final. They did NOT have a strong squad.@@ronaldo17277
Erik Alsgaard exactly. Good defenders in Hypiia and Carragher, but still, Milan had Nesta and Stam. And Finnan/Traore VS Maldini/Cafu? :D A great midfield with Gerrard, Alonso and Riise, plus Garcia who was decent. The only segment of the team that can compare to Milan’s. Kaka owned the first half, Gerrard owned the second, at least for long enough time to reach 3-3. Kewell/Baros in attack... Next to Schevchenko and Crespo?! The 2005 final was a great example of big names underestimating the underdog and getting too comfortable when leading.. (and a LOT of luck, considering Traores line clearance and Dudek vs Schevchenko), just like we often see with CHL competitors who face the small teams in their national league (Barca/Alaves, Real/Levante, Bayern/Hertha Berlin etc)
@@Metalton95 yeah agree. Gerrard was immense that game. God! Im not a Liverpool fan, but holy do i miss Gerrard. Immense player. Sucks that his career ended on a down. I was born in Istanbul and lived there my whole life so I still remember that crazy day as a football freak. Fans, especially English fans, drank so much beer that day, that at the end of the night the beer stock of the European side of Istanbul was almost empty. (It was completely empty in touristic areas) Some fans collected 1 Lira coins (because they were the same size as 2 euro coins) that were newly produced and corresponded to about 60 cents and used them in cigarette vending machines when they returned to their countries. Some countries then had to change their vending machines. It was the most interesting final I have ever witnessed. I am very happy that this legendary final was played in Istanbul and the rematch was played in our neighbor Athens. It was a time when football was not as mechanized as it is now and emotionality was at the forefront.
Liverpool fans were brilliant. Outnumbered AC Milan fans 4:1 and outsang them even when 0-3 down at half time. The players heard the singing while in the dressing room at half time and it inspired them to fight back.
Just to say, Andrea Pirlo wanted to stop his career after this match, but he didn't give up and won the world cup and the ucl a couple of years later ! But this match was lit !!
