How to put on a Tongue Tie on a Race Horse named Ready to Defer!

- Here we are in the paddock at The Big A back in January all excited about Ready to Defer's next big race for his fans and owners at Parting Glass Racing! Bruce Levine his trainer is putting a Tongue Tie on him before he warms up. Dave his trusty assistant then stretches his front legs and makes sure the girth isn't pinching him. Then he is ready to go. Unfortunately none of us new ( and RTD didn't tell us) that his throat was full of mucous preventing him form having his closing kick from the top of the stretch. He eventually finished 4th which was a bit disappointing but when we found out why well then how could we expect any horse to finish strong without being able to breathe!
I am adopting this sweet boy and he will never be treated like this again. He is a very laid back and sweet horse.
Are you really?
Dawn Roy I’m proud you are doing this for that horse
It is not cruel and does not hurt. I am a Harness race horse trainer. It prevents the horse from getting his tongue over the bit which is dangerous and does hurt. And it prevents him from swallowing his tongue which would make him fall at full speed!
It’s so the horse doesn’t swallow his tongue when running fast. It doesn’t hurt them it actually helps them from getting hurt
@@serenamoore6433 Of course he isn't he is probably worth tens of thousands ..she is just some nut on the internet.
Published in 2002 in the Equine Veterinary Journal Supplement, Equine Exercise Physiology, a study by Franklin et al. worked six Thoroughbred horses with confirmed DDSP on a high-intensity treadmill to test the efficacy of ties in a dynamic method akin to racing. They were monitored for gaseous exchange and by endoscopic observation of the soft palette.
Results:
a) Without the tongue ties, all six presented with DDSP.
b) With ties, four still showed displacement in the high-intensity portion of the test, and a fifth horse also presented with DDSP at the end of the test.
This demonstrates that tongue ties did NOT improve ventilation in horses still experiencing displacement.
Awful. Freedom of the tongue is vital for a horse to function properly as the tongue is connected to muscles in the neck and chest. This also stops the horse from swallowing (which we know from trips to the dentist is VERY uncomfortable) Only reason a horse puts his tongue over the bit or in the back of his throat is to relieve pressure on it caused by jointed bits. Instead of releasing this pressure to fix the problem this restrains the tongue completely so the horse can find no release at all.
I think its to help him breath. Its nothing to do with him putting his tongue over the bit. The palette at the back gets in the way of the nasal passage for some horses.
That is totally abuse.. why u doin that boiii and HORSES HAVE FEELING TO THEY ARE ALIVE AND BITS ARE BAD AND BITS ARE ABUSE. They hurt the poor horse
Wait... did everyone hear that? "For a lousy 14,000 dollars" oh my I can believe these people. You all are sick. SICK.
What about that is sick?
@@lits3403 my question is how does this improve a horses performance? 😂 like come on guys
@@ryugujiken6936 Its purpose is to keep the horse from putting its tongue over the bit which is pretty important for performance, also from flipping palate which makes it more difficult for the horse to breathe
they only said lousy because they have higher money races. they didnt call the horse lousy.....good Lord.....we ARE sick lol, with horse fever haha
@@lits3403horses can't breathe thur their mouth.
tongue tie's are used because if the horse puts their tongue on the bit the rider has no control because racehorses have no training
Why do you guy do tht?
I get that this is for the horses safety but this is probably why my OTTB was head shy, or potentially for other reasons. But this is just disappointing. The horse clearly looks uncomfortable while he is having this done to him.
Exactly. It’s better to use a flash.
This is so grotesque. Can you even imagine how horrific that feels. The horses ears and eyes tell you how much it is suffering. You can feel the horses panic, I had no idea this was even a thing. Apparently, when the pain from the bit becomes unbearable the horse will try to move its tongue over the bit to relieve the pain. These monsters not only think its fine to cause a horse that much pain to start with, they have come up with an even more torturous method to stop them. There is literally no escape from pain for these poor, utterly abused creatures. How people can inflict such sickening cruelty on horses legally is beyond belief. Can you imagine someone doing this to a dog at crufts, there would be absolute outrage from the public. But people that work with horses in spot seem to think " it's just a horse, it doesn't matter how much it suffers, no one cares". And judging by alot of the comments here, like "great informative video", they are right. I think anyone willing to do this to an animal, or stand by and let someone else do this, should have it done to them.
Poor animal ! Notice how the man doesn't look the horse in the eye just like a torturer in a James Bond movie! I'd love to do it to him, and put him in handcuffs so he can't remove it. Oh yes!
Isnt this abuse doesn't it hurt the horse,HORSES HAVE FEELINGS TO YOU KNOW

Why????
Tongue ties 'make a horse perform better'
But were not told how
Wheres the proof 😂😂 WHERES THE PROOOOOOOOF
Istfg
so they dont
1. Swallow their tongue (accidentally)
and
2. so they dont throw their tongue over the bit and the rider lose control, endangering others, himself, and the horse.
Horse racing is known to abuse their animals and put them down because they push them way past their limits. Tongue tying, beating, and pushing them so far that they break legs and have to get put down. They’re treated like absolute garbage and it’s so sad to see
Now he can't chew tobacco.
This is animal abuse those bits are invasive and hurt
How anyone can mistreat an animal like this I will never understand. I hope karma takes no mercy on the people who treat animals with such cruelty. Monsters.
Ew, just ew. I think there's plenty of other comments who agree and even have some more detailed explainations.
Poot thing 😢
no used gloves,,,, and it is 3x times to prevent the tongue get loose
why don't we tie your tongues. how about instead of tying the tongues why not make a better bit/bridles or better yet bitless bridles.
Thank you for sharing the video
This video is very informative. Thanks for sharing
The horse is distressed. Look at its ears... poor thing. Toung ties should be banned! >:(
They are banned in parts of Europe and I think Australia
Who makes up this garbage to do this to a horse
This is a really bad thing, it does not help at all.
THIS IS ABUSE
everyone in these comments think their a goddamn horse expert. you all are so oblivious, like there’s a reason they do that in racing, sure it seems bad but that doesn’t mean it is, it’s actually to prevent them from hurting themselves smh
I mean they still die from other injuries 🤷♀️ misinformation from anti tongue tiers and stigma around putting 'random' equipment on horses isnt helping i suppose
if the horses were actually broken properly you wouldn't even have to protect the horse from itself. If you have to tonge-tie a horse there is a deeper issue with the horse.
@@jasinta5390 you display your ignorance freely...
Well the tongue ties itself is hurting them and it can make their tongue fall off
Thank u sharing video
This is abusive
Disgusting! And what breaks my heart the most is this poor horse is so compliant to the animals that are inflicting this on it. You Definetly have wiped out your heart for dollars instead.
Horse racing is just terrible it should be banned everywhere so much abuse
Tongue ties do not hurt a horse period They are used to prevent the horse from getting his tongue over the bit, which does hurt when the bit gets under the tender part of the tongue This causes control lose and is dangerous! Also, if they swallow their tongue while running, they cant breath and will fall!
THANK YOU!!!! At least someone else on this video comment section has a brain!!!

@@DublinDapper Ok genius, how would you be able to safely steer the horse during highly intensive competition? Or are horses just supposed to be pasture companions?
@@clydeb7713 A head halter/collar..no need to call me a genius I'm not the one inflicted on a horses mouth for so called intense competition
You put a tongue tie on for many reasons: so the tongue doesn't obstruct the airway, so the horse doesn't get his tongue under the bit and push it to his teeth where the horse can grab the bit and at that point the jock has no control. It does not hurt the horse and they get used to it.
PartingGlassRacing Try running around with your tongue tied up. You will hopefully change your stupid opinion.

Tie your tongue out of your mouth first.
Tongue tie doesn't hurt anything... wake up!
Running Down a Dream how about you wake up and open your eyes to this world. There is so much wrong with the horse racing industry, and all that they care about is the money the horse can get them. If they don’t make enough money, they’ll kill them. They do anything in their power to make sure the horse wins they will even torture them.
@@emmabishop2432 exactly... get rid of horse racing and theres no need for tongue ties to stop a horse from swallowing its own tongue or getting its tongue over the top of its bit
@@emmabishop2432 ACTUALLY, we LOVE our horses. WE cry when they break down. Grooms lose their shit when another owner or trainer claims them in a race. we feed them 3 times a day, 3 scoops of grain per feeding, and all the hay they want. treats like carrots, apples and mints. farrier appointments( Farriers are people that trim and shoe horses) vets help them, they even get massages, either by human hand or a machine. they get taken care of whether its sunny, rainy, snowy, hot, cold, dry, wet, light outside, or dark. DONT TELL ME WE DONT LOVE OUR HORSES!! WE all HATE the slaughter houses.
