There are on others in His divinity "… Qur'an 3 :61 Over the past 1400 years , Islamic theology has maintained this ; To say " Jesus Christ is the Only Son of God " [ which He is ] … is considered the unforgivable sin , " shirk ". And is punishable by death . So either you don't know the religion you follow or you have abrogated that aspect of it . Which is it ?

I don't think asking for forgiveness is to punish us humans. Allah wants us to ask for it so that we can feel the magnitude of what we did even if it was small like "flashing someone a bad look" or something. Cause these small things grow and escalate into big matters usually. These small pebble like sins turn into mountains and we end up with bad habits and characteristics and toxic lives. It ruins great people!! Allah wants to purify us. He wants to scrub our hearts squeaky clean. Seeking constant forgiveness is good cause you feel that you have nothing to hide. Otherwise you end up with skeletons in your closet. You could also end up with mental and emotional health problems. Confessing and admitting the problem (the sin) and being courageous enough to face it day in and day out will make you grow into a sharp and well rounded person. Seeking forgiveness is not a depressing process cause Allah COMMANDS you to be certain that he'll forgive you. He just wants you to shine and be the best that you can be. He'll hide your sins for you and cover and envelop you with his mercy and bring you close. Allah is truly beautiful. I'm a Muslim, but I swear I ain't a good person. In fact I'm a scum bag, but I'd never tell you that in person. People like to save face. I don't deserve Allah in the least bit!! But he's still been generous and good to me!!!
