I despise "wire-fu" almost as much as CGI and shakycam. Best fight of all time? Puts Winter Soldier's to shame? That would have to be the last fight in 1968's"Dark of the Sun" (and there are several other good ones throughout). Definitely has the most testosterone-drenched movie-poster of all time.

Fist of Legend is a fucking masterpiece. The fight at the end between Jet Li, his old Friend (the guy in red who hes fighting in the scene here) and the true villain of the piece, the Japanese Captain they call The Killing Machine is truly epic.

Hey man, great video as always.
I would like to propose a female-only episode of this series! Namely, a match between the 2023 Korean Netflix film "Ballerina" starring Jeon Jong-Seo (maybe the final fight, where she kills a bunch of dudes, or the one-on-one fight in the bedroom earlier) against the 2018 Indonesian Film The Night Comes for Us", focusing on The Operator, played by Julie Estelle. Hell, make it a three-way fight for the hell of it, with the recent "The Shadows Strays" with some Aurora Ribero in the mix 🤔

@@joshpinchuk7061 Part of the scene where Danny fights the man in white happens in a bathroom, a lot of close kicks and punches. Amazing flexibility, very raw and visceral. Also, the whole movie is great. It lags in the middle between fights because Danny is trying to be peaceful, but the fights themselves are top notch.

Hey Marcus - great, just great - as always. Best channel on UA-cam. And I might ruffle some feathers here, but I can't believe you don't have the Coliseum fight between Bruce and Chuck Norris in Return of the Dragon on your greatest fights list. I may be biased because my instructor was Bruce's best friend, but no other fight compares when you take the participants into consideration. It has become very popular to run Bruce down recently - maybe because Tarantino did it in "Hollywood." But no one else had the effect Bruce did in just four movies. The sheer amount of people he brought to the martial arts will never be rivaled. I've been studying for over thirty years and no one I talk to ever said they began training because of Jackie, Jet Li, or Donny Yen. But THEY all became stars BECAUSE of Bruce - and everyone I ask about their motivation to start, all say Bruce Lee. I've gotten a million stories of just how great he was from people who knew and trained with and under him - he was a once in a hundred year personality. And by the way, Chuck Norris is no slouch either.

If this is turning into a sort of ranking system or even a tournament with brackets type of thing, Tony Jaa vs Lateef Crowder definitely needs to enter the mix! Tony Jaa in general at least (for this series)
Also...those sound effects in Fist of Legend unlocked a childhood memory of watching Five Deadly Venoms haha. All the older classic martial arts flicks that I remember used the very heavy wooshing and blocking sounds in the choreography along with the intentionally sped up film

Also, also, I found Fist of Legend on UA-cam in Cantonese, Japanese (and a tiny bit of Mandarin) "v=mQRwn13T4C8"
I rewatched it and got to the scene showcased in this video. My favorite part is right before he starts his "hybrid boxing" stance and everyone is ragging on Mitsuko. You can see him physically make the decision to leave, but he's decided to whoop Ting'en's ass first. Pure gold.

Legend. Not only is it visually more appealing but the highlighted fight isn't just a boss fight. His friend confronts him but he doesn't want to fight his friend until he sees no other way making it much more interesting on an emotional level. The story telling in the choreography is also clear as day, I don't remember that from Ip Man.
I am waiting to see who you'll put up versus the Michelle Yeoh / Ziyi Zhang fight from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

It's weird that they use "power powder" so many of the feet/fist movements that don't connect... The powder makes sense in shots where there's an impact, it looks cool, but when the guy's just flailing around with kicks trying to hit Jet Li and powder's just wafting off his feet, it looks a bit silly.
However, it receives some grace for being made earlier than Donnie Yen's films, which have benefited from the adoption of more filmic/cinematic approaches of action movie making of the modern age. I.e. standing on shoulders of giants and so on

When it comes to Jet Li's fight scenes, I prefer the first two Once Upon a Time in China over Fist of Legend. Some of Jet Li's moves felt a little too stiff in Fist because it's not his fighting style. He's trained in Wushu and I felt he's a little uncomfortable trying to replicate Bruce Lee with his footwork. The fights are also a little too cranked up. The speed for the fight scenes in the first two Once Upon A Time in China just felt right and it doesn't look sped up. In fact I actually prefer his fight in Kiss of the Dragon (choreographed by the late Corey Yuen) and Danny the Dog (choreographed by Yuen Wo Ping again) over Fist. I think you missed the opportunity to cover the amazing fights between Jet and Donnie in Once Upon a Time in China 2(one in the middle of the movie and one in the finale) for this video. It fits the title of the video so perfectly. 🤭

Hmmm...... if similar tone, feeling and filmaking are to be included in the criteria of these movie fights then IMO Fist of Legend vs Ip Man may not exactly be the best match up as both are striving for very different things. While both are wuxia period pieces Ip Man is much more interested in character and story focused while Fist of Legend is more a showcase of action (while still having a better than average story for the time and it being a remake of Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury/The Chinese Connection.)
For a focus on drama, character and story maybe it should be = Ip Man vs Fearless or Danny the Dog/Unleashed
And for pure action sake = Fist of Legend vs Iron Monkey
(And just throw in Hero and Once Upon a time in China 2 cause they're both classics worth your time)
