My trio in soft echoes . . . a world awaits was commissioned by theFortnightly Musical Club of Cleveland and was written for violinist EmmaShook, violist Eliesha Nelson and ‘cellist Martha Baldwin, who aremembers of the Cleveland Orchestra. Cast in fifteen short movements, itexplores many timbral and articulative aspects of this combination ofinstruments. The work expands from the opening movement’s Aflat/Bflatmajor second motive. Interspersed as part of the work’s ongoingdevelopment, are recurring and unfolding pizzicato movements markedCapricciosso. The title to me suggests the image of a world that resultsfrom the resonance of the reflected light within clouds.
