J-hope not rapping much was very intentional, it was to pay homage and respect to j-cole who is his inspiration from his teenage years. Cole was given 32 bars because j-hope respects and loves him (but jhope can spit when he wants to while playing between languages too).
j-hope is also the one who made the melody for this song and helped produce the beat, and is written as a temporary farewell song to his fans before he leaves for mandatory military service for a while

Giving J Cole so much time on this song speaks to his respect. He did not have to do that. J-hope is a true superstar and a humble king.💜

The song, the beat, the whistle gentlemen, was all J Hope. He was the composer, beatmaker, and producer of this song. As a matter of fact, the song, without lyrics can be heard on his solo album that he released last year, around the time he met J Cole at last year's Lalapoolza.
This was J Hope's song to the BTS fandom, known as the ARMY.

J.Cole is jhope's biggest influence/inspiration and muse.
Jhope's mixtape "HOPE WORLD" is a play on J.Cole's first album "COLE WORLD." The BTS song "Born Singer" is also a play on J.Coles song "Born Sinner." The avirex fit j-hope is wearing is also homage to J.cole. The street jhope was on at the beginning is the same exact street J.Cole filmed his "SIMBA" music video on. And jhope dancing during Cole's verse is because j-hope before BTS used to dance to J.Cole songs back in the day. The is like a visual homage paid to J.Cole by j-hope to show his genuine love for THE GOAT like J.Cole.

As an Army i have this habit of reading comments before watching the video and I'm glad I did this time as well.
There was no respect which I think is not ok this is jhopes song and he made it as like a farewell so don’t make comments about the people in the song disrespectfully I think both are great rappers so let’s make comments like that stay in our head.
