I would love to have me a big ol iron pot like that. I would do all kinds of chicken and rice etc meals, You brought it back to life, great job my friend.
Good job saving that piece of history!! Save yourself some time. Get an "angle grinder" and a cup brush. It will remove the rust much faster. Be sure to wear I protection!!!. When you fire the pot, cover it with at #2 wash tub. It will season much faster. Keep the fire to it until it stops smoking.
I have angle grinders and wire brushes… I went with this drill for slower speed and to find any weak spots.. I thought there might be some hole I didn’t see.. it has been used 4 times for country boils and seafood boils, most of the boils are in the 5 gallon pot.. I plan on using this one or the 20 gallon for a boil superbowl Sunday depending on COVID conditions.. also crawfish season has started and both pots will be used.. thanks for the kind comment and thanks for watching
Beer!!! That’s interesting.. have you looked into the aluminum pots? I’m curious on how that would work.. please checkout some of my other videos and please consider subscribing if you haven’t already… thanks for sharing your thoughts
@@wemcal aluminum doesn’t do well with the minerals in beer, and scraping the pot clean is terrible. You’ll end up with aluminum in your beer. I use stainless steel now. I want to set up something more primitive though.
My in-laws have a pot like that it dates back to there grandparents it's in fair shape and has been used every year for cooking corn for the family reunion about what do think it might be worth

I used the brush to remove as much of the rust scale I could… it’s too large for a fire to burn it.. the burner worked fine… thanks for the comment and thanks for watching

Why use the wire brush ? Wouldn’t firing it just burn it away ?
