This is exactly why I don't feel comfortable sharing my bi identity with my family. I still want to be a part of my family. I've heard my grandparents and family openly mock pronouns (of which I have), trans people, and be so homo/transphobic. I'm not closeted to myself anymore, but I am closeted to them, maybe eternally. Lack of visibility is exactly why I struggled with my mental health for 20+ years because I’m an asexual aromantic demigirl but I didn’t discover the existence of any of those terms until my early 30’s so I suffered in silence thinking I was broken and alone from about the age of 8/9 onwards and it wasn’t a pretty sight. Thanks for reminding people why visibility matters!

The "protecting the kids from the gay" thing kills me. Y'all have no idea how much of my life was spent hating myself (and, consequently, other queer people) because I had it drilled into my head in my youth that anything LGBT+ is some weird deviance that, while harmless overall, is by no means acceptable and should be shunned from polite society. I was 20 before I came to accept myself. I'm 27 now. I still cannot be out in my own home because my mom's made it clear that having a queer child is a sign of her moral failing as a parent, and with the way the economy is right now it doesn't look like I'll be able to leave her house any time soon. Had I known as a child that how I felt was normal and ok, I'd probably be less of a mess than I am. Whatever your beliefs, as a parent or someone who takes care of a child, your main goal should be helping that person to be a well-rounded, healthy adult. Letting your kids know it's not ok to be gay is the opposite of that, and I don't understand how anyone who says they care for their child can also potentially deny them a major part of their identity without any trace of irony about it.

Once I had a friend who I tried to come out to in a subtle and creative way over video call, like I had a big ass trans flag displayed on a monitor in the background.
And he just looked at me but kept talking
And other people in the call were like “wtf? Why isn’t he reacting?”
And when it became awkward enough he said “do you want a trophy? A cookie?” And I’m like “no, I just want some kind of reaction. An acknowledgement of any kind, literally anything that isn’t awkward silence”
    But apparently that’s attention seeking

Also! This whole idea that "progression will kill the traditional family!!!!!" Is hysterical to me. I am non-binary and I am bisexual. I'm married to a man. I am a stay at home parent to our three children and I crochet, embroider, paint and sing. We manage to be a progressive family without compromising the "sacred" family stuff. A couple we know also live a very traditional family experience, one works from home and takes on the "homec are" duties and the other goes out to a "regular" job 9-5, despite them both being men.
So it would seem, shockingly, that, just like everyone else, LGBTQ+ people are just as capable of choosing a traditional family lifestyle without compromising who they are. 🤯🤯 It's almost as if all people are just people and everyone makes the same choices in life regarding lifestyle, family, career, religion etc etc and their sexuality and gender doesn't much come in to that.

They sin by hurting a community and trying to say that they have the authority to judge people. When people accept God's Grace, we accept God's love and show our love by loving our fellow man. The two who actually joined me for it were shocked at how so many shows and movies they didn't consider to have romance at all did, in fact, have the main dude kissing or outright sleeping with at least one woman. And then we watched a few episodes of a show with a gay couple in it, and at first they were annoyed with how "in your face" the gay couple were, except... they weren't. They were doing the same exact things that straight couples do, but because it's a novel scene, it stood out more. (I think it was _Modern Family?_ I can't remember; it's been a few years).
Like, you might ignore a group of boys playing football in the background of a scene at a school, but if it were girls you'd notice immediately, because it's rare to see girls join in on contact sports, let alone two whole teams' worth.
It's like what Knuckles said in Sonic Boom about feminism: Treating every single time that a female does well as an outlier instead of the norm, _prevents it from becoming the norm._ The same is true for LGBTQ+ stuff. If people stopped freaking out every time it showed up, they'd stop noticing when it did, because it would then be _normal._

The original photo was about a community trying to get those stairs replaced with safer ones.
They were painted by a man in protest/awareness, officials painted them grey to hush the movement, and the whole community painted them rainbow again.
Eventually, the stairs were demolished (as shown) to build new, safe ones, and those are officially rainbow in homage to the entire community's solidarity.

Jamie, what's your opinion on writing a book about an important character that's trans when you're not trans yourself? I'm part of the LGBTQ+ community (ace lesbian), but not trans. I've been a trans ally for about a decade, but I don't have a strong sense of gender myself at all, so I sometimes struggle to understand what it's like to have such a strong gender identity that you realise you're not cis. My character's story isn't about his gender identity at all, but about mental health and falling in love.
How do I include a trans character without understand the mechanism of gender identity? I really want to give diverse and non-stereotypical examples of trans characters in my books since I write a lot about the LGBTQ+ community, but is it right of me to include something I don't fully understand? On the other hand I've written about vampires and I can't say I fully understand that either...

Sensitivity readers are a great option to have. If you have trans folx in your life, you can ask if they’ll give you some feedback on your writing so far. Otherwise, asking online for some readers to give feedback is an option too.
Biggest advice is to be open to criticism and not get defensive if you did get anything wrong. You’re asking for feedback so you can make sure the character is the best they can be, so being open to learn how to improve is really important-both for you and anyone you’re seeking advice from.

Fortunately, the smart ones will understand through mere communication that no, queerness isn't a phase nor a disease, and then they'll just go "Love is love. Do whatever. You're free." And it's nice when that happens.

And recently I’ve been just throwing myself into my jobs to try and take my mind off of this. But even then I feel like I’m just in the way. It’s gotten so bad that my hair has been turning white and thinning.

Wait she’s canonically sapphic?! When did we find that out?

Love how they think we're trying to come for them or something. Like if I don't know you, I'm more concerned about how I'm gonna do my hair today than I am with who you're sleeping with or what your family is doing...

2:48 correction, sharks will nibble you because they are curious. They won’t try to kill u but a little nibble for them can seem like an attack to us, yet they are just curious what we are.

      @eevilauntie Рік тому +2

Yes, this! It's not the shark's fault if their little nibbles are sometimes almost big enough to take a human's leg off, they just have big teefs. They lose interest after they've realised you're not a tasty fish. Sharks are goofy ocean friends and I wish more people understood that

Is it bad that I would probably start petting the shark if it started nibbling on my leg?

@@shadowking278just make sure to pet it the right way, sharks have some pretty rough skin if you pet in the wrong direction.

2:21 I'm going to choose to say the meaning of the meme was those sharks are protecting the people from transphobes while going through the water because they are blahaj

4:15, my dad said that 10% of movies have gay characters, which isn't accurate, and that straights can also 'look' gay or something. We were watching the New Buzz Lightyear movie and one of the characters was gay. He said something along the lines of, "Straight girls can be buff too!"
like the dude forgot bi and pan people existed

@Stop Igbt I'm non-binary and I'm alive and somehow that hurts you. You literally came to a place where a lot of our community is safe, to do what say that you're against us. I really don't care. Go do something helpful and I hope you don't have a good day.

as a christian, i just want to say sorry on behalf of all supportive christians. the people who use christianity as an excuse to be hateful are spreading blasphemy and twisting the lords words. being of different sexuality is completely fine and valid. god wouldn’t send you to hell for something you can’t control, let alone make you go to hell for something he quite possibly gave you intentionally.

11:05 First time I saw this comic, I thought it was a bigot who didn't want to "touch the gay". That would make so much more sense, too
