  • Our Sportfish Angler Data Collection Team (SADCT) helps us record important information on striped bass in three easy steps:
    1. Measure the fish: Measurement should be done in inches and recorded to the nearest inch. This is a straight measurement from the lower jaw when the mouth is closed, to the tip of the tail. Record this measurement on the outside of the provided envelope.
    2. Remove scales: Using a clean knife, wipe away any debris from the sample area (between the dorsal fin and the lateral line). Proceed with one of the following methods to collect at least six scales. Method 1: Holding the knife at a slight angle, move it from the back of the fish towards the head to remove scales. Method 2: After cleaning the sample area, use tweezers to individually select scales.
    3. Place collected scales in the provided envelope.
Helpful hint! Placing a soft, wet cloth over the fish’s head will help keep it calm during this quick sampling.
